It’s just cause there is a large margin of people who just don’t want John to succeed period. John Boyega’s net worth is literally just the same as Daisy Ridley’s, 6 million, so it’s not about money. He’s gotten just as many big name acting gigs, so it’s about acting chops, and John has proved that he’s one of the most talented up and coming actors there is. It’s honestly just cause he’s black that he goes through this type of rubbish. Black folk will always be under the microscope when it comes to being in a mostly white fan community that has never had a black protagonist.
Also this is ridiculous if you go out and read other social media platforms or forums other than U.S. Twitter – I can only talk about German, Polish and French sites as those are the languages I speak and keep an eye on what fandoms are saying, and EVERYONE thought TLJ was terrible! I think Leia in Princess of Alderaan said she was only attracted to humanoid males, which presumably includes humanoid aliens and is probably the SW version of being straight. Maybe they have other terms for people who are attracted to non-humanoids, though the vast majority of sentient beings are humanoid from what I can see.
