themandalorianwolf:

If you write a lot of metas about Star Wars, my advice is that you start a YouTube channel and start making Video essays. I’m slowly realizing that the Star Wars fandom on Tumblr is basically imploding on itself every other day.

I’m not leaving tumblr, and I’ll still be active here, but my channel is gonna start doubling down on the tribute videos and start putting the metas I did here, in video essays.

My channel name is “Mandalorian Studios”.

This is good advice and I’ve been planning to do this for a while, especially because SW Youtube is a mess and could use a lot more content on Finn and other characters of color. (Urban Acolyte can’t do it all on his own!) Video essays seem to be the future anyway because evidently you young’uns don’t read anymore. I’ll announce my channel after I’ve populated it a bit.

Look guys, as far as you’re concerned, LJ doesn’t ship Reylo, period. If there’s more nuance to that question that requires a more complicated answer than “no”, that’s her business. Mind your own and get off her back. Jeez. Literally her whole blog speaks for itself but you guys only care about that one post.

I think it’s legit for people to not want to interact with someone who creates/is open to creating reylow content even if I don’t “ship” it in the sense of endorsing it. I hope my answers provided full and clear information on that point so they can make their own decisions.

This is the bull shit with shipping Wars. Everyone knows where you stand. They’ve been rebloging from you for years at this point. It’s basically just a fandom strawmam contest till some new content comes in. These people need to relax. Maybe go read you hundreds of essays of anti reylow, doomerey, and benny boy posts.

There are good reasons people are going crazy, since TLJ was so crazy-making and some people are actually nervous about canon reylow/bendemption happening–something that has less than zero backing in the story but still comes across as a legitimate threat solely because of white heteronormativity, plus misogyny racism etc. Finn being an actual central hero feels like a distant memory by now, with his story and character laughed at and spat on not only by the fandom but by “canon” now. I can see how a prominent “anti” saying she “ships” reylo can feel like the last straw. Nuance tends to fare poorly when people are on their last nerve.

So you’re okay with Damerey then which black fans have expressed unease with? All righty then, peace. I’m disappointed as hell because I really liked your blog and I was relieved when you stood up for the young girl who was being groomed but you’re a fraud.

It may surprise you then that I have an entire anti Damerey tag. Again, same thing with reylow–don’t like the ship (for different reasons than reylow and I dislike reylow vastly more), don’t like the way shippers act especially in devaluing and desexualizing Finn and Rey’s connection, don’t think it should be endgame ever, fine with people shipping but don’t want to see it for myself. I have been pretty consistent about this, I’m not sure which part comes as a surprise.

Are you high? Yes, Damerey is antiblack. Finnrose as it stands right now is antiblack. Reylo is antiblack. Finnpoe is not because Finn and Poe have an established friendship. Reyva is not because wlw relationships in a mainstream movie are nonexistent and Jessika is not white. Now I think you’re just shitting on black people. Idk if you’re just tired of pretending to care about the bullshit we endure in this fucked up fandom or what but literally you sound exactly like every antiblack reylo.

Look, I really can’t keep track of all those categories of what is an acceptable ship or not. I do in fact vocally dislike the first three ships and am annoyed with the shippers (and gotten the shit to show for it), but it’s like you said–I’m just not that woke™. If being an ally in fandom means being completely up on those different categories and toeing the line exactly, then I’m not up for it. All I have ever been doing here was trying to have fun and bitching about the shit that makes fandom unfun for me and others. I don’t consider that activism or political in any way and never have.

No one who wrote that outline reylo would be okay with Finnrey. I feel duped by you. You stood judgment over people all the time feeling that there was a way in which Rey and some nonexistent character named Ben who abused her in canon could pledge their love for each other, as if Finn never existed or meant anything to Rey. It’s antiblack and foul, and you’re being childish because you realize you exposed yourself and you can’t face the music from people pissed that you lied all this time.

So positing the possibility of any ship for Rey but with Finn is antiblack and I can’t want Finn to be a dear friend to Rey while they date other people or no one? Sorry to say but I have made and reblogged multiple works with exactly that premise, including Roserey and Finnpoe, Rey/Jessika, Finnpoe with Rey single etc. etc. I wondered if I could make a scenario where “Ben” could be one of those people. I acknowledged that I failed and it was OOC and implausible. But again, this is Tumblr and no one is allowed to change their mind on anything ever lmaooooo

The answer is no. What you state is not a part of shipping. By your metric, every reylo who writes something shitty about finnrey actually ships it. Hateshipping really doesn’t exist. Crackshipping does, but by definition it is something that is acknowledged to make no sense. Joker/Batman is a crackship. It exists. But it’s nonsensical. You have a long outline of a scenario you acknowledge you would be “fine” with happening in reylo. That is not crackshipping. It is shipping.

Again, it doesn’t matter that I changed my mind about it because no one is ever allowed to change their mind on anything asdjksgsd go away, you’re boring me.

I don’t know why are you surprised people are asking if you’re a reylo? You already know this ship make people uncomfortable. That’s not funny

It’s funny (to me) because the categories are so comically inadequate. For me personally, the reylow community makes me deeply uncomfortable, not to mention enraged, because they are so strident about denying and romanticizing abuse, and so eager to erase the importance of Finn to Rey and the story at large. This behavior is so visible and prominent in the mainstream shipping community that the word “reylo” has become synonymous with these behaviors. As a result there’s actually no term, reylo or anti, for someone creates content with the subject matter of reylo but does not endorse it.

So I’m an anti in the sense that I dislike and criticize the ship and its shipping community, but a shipper with an asterisk in the sense that I create, or am open to creating, content about (but not endorsing) the ship. If anyone is uncomfortable interacting with me for the latter reason, of course, they shouldn’t.

This confusion isn’t unique to the SW fandom, a lot of fandoms have the problem where “ship” is synonymous with “endorse,” and I think it causes a lot of unnecessary confusion and discourages the creation of whole areas of fanworks where depiction does not equal endorsement.
