that anon that sent you that ask about reaching out to kylodieforever is a dummy, they were called out even by fellow reylows and all that asshole did was double down and then delete all of the negative comments.

Yeah, they simply doubled down and then claimed victimhood when the blowback couldn’t be ignored anymore. Also kudos to the reylo shippers who called this clown out, even if their efforts were wasted on this person.

There are some race bends that can be done right for the right reasons. Like the Broadway show Hamilton race bends most of the historical white people in the show by casting actors of color from everyone to Washington to Thomas Jefferson. The fact of doing that got many fans of color into musical theater and made them feel included. Many race bends of color characters into white isn’t about anything other than people thinking colored faces won’t sell. 1/2.

2/2 Ghost in the Shell, Exodus, and many other movies have
nothing to do with trying to make people feel included, because white
people are the majority in almost all pop culture. It’s why reverse
racism is horse shit. The minority can be  prejudice, but not racist,
because racism implies  there is something to exclude or gain, but as
minorities we are always at the disadvantage. That’s why race bending
POC characters is offensive, but not white characters because white
characters are everywhere

Yup, when it’s a minority character being racebent into a member of the majority race it’s whitewashing (in white-majority places like Europe and the U.S.) and reflects the idea that minorities can’t be convincingly/profitably portrayed in positive roles. There are also the related phenomena ciswashing (I can’t believe Scarlett Johansson is implicated here too asdjlsgd), goywashing, and more. It’s a reinforcement of existing marginalization and further erases marginalized identities from the media and popular perception.

there is literally no reason to hate finn with so much animosity that you can’t wait to write about him being mauled to death fuck reylos

rootbeergoddess:

This is why I am so confused about the hatred towards Finn.

Finn has done anything to warrant this much hate. It doesn’t make sense. What has he done? The only thing that you can even consider bad is him trying to leave the others. That is it and he goes back on that as soon as Rey as in trouble. He’s kind, brave, selfless and he cares about people. It’s obvious that he cares about Poe and Rey. Hell, even Chewy likes him. But people want to smear him for no good reason.

Again, what has Finn done? Literally, nothing. It’s like hating a kitten.

List of Finn’s unforgivable crimes:

  1. Existing as a Black man
  2. Having a deep and heartfelt bond with Rey, something reylows believe Kylo is entitled to no matter how badly he mistreats her
  3. Being exactly what people want their white “hero” to be–courageous, honorable, fundamentally good, intellegent, complex, intriguing–and being better than their pale imitation Benny Solo in every conceivable way

I submitted that PragerU video ironically. I don’t think any part of it had to do with why TLJ was bad, I was just making the joke that modern art = bad, TLJ = modern art = TLJ is bad.

I’m not comfortable with “ironically” posting content that is at the very least fascist-adjacent, especially since that is so often a tactic of the alt right. Besides, TLJ does not deserve to be called art even ironically 😂

I think racebends are potentially neutral, but I’ve seen concerns that racebends can be combined with bad implications or angles. I’ve seen people say that you shouldn’t racebend someone like George Washington to be black or Native since he owned black slaves and killed Native children, and erasing that his whiteness allowed him to do so is disrespectful to his victims (although I think any fan fiction or fandom about real-life people is at best weird and at worst highly offensive.) Now, in (1)

fiction, it seems like it’d be a lot harder to be as blatantly
offensive, but one still needs to examine why you might choose a
racebend similarly to why you might choose a race for your own fictional
creation. Does it rely on stereotypes? Does the story not work with a
different ethnicity? All of these underlying reasons can factor into
whether or not a racebend is offensive or not. In a non-Earth setting
like Star Wars, nothing about Rey is intrinsically ties to her
whiteness, or even her (2)

humanity that ties to the story, so you’d be good on that front.
The only thing to consider then is if a racebend uses stereotypes for
reasoning. I’m admittedly not full Native, but as someone with some
descent, I for the most part don’t think your alternate sequel trilogy
relies on any Native stereotypes. The only thing that gave me pause was
the name Starcatcher, which felt a bit like a name a colonizer would
give to a native family, and wouldn’t make sense in Star Wars. Then I
remembered (3)

Skywalker is a name in Star Wars. As long as the Starcatchers
don’t smoke peacepipes or have special ties to nature, I wouldn’t see
any problem with the racebend. But obviously, no opinion is universal,
and I always say if one person is offended and ninety nine aren’t, it’s
better to change for the one. The ninety nine won’t mind, and the one
will appreciate it. Overall, though, I don’t think your racebend would
be offensive (even if I prefer Richardson-Sellers for the role of Rey.)
(Moth) (4?)

Good points to keep in mind! I thought of Starcatcher as a reference to the fact that they scavenged discarded ships and parts in space for a living (which itself could be problematic), but I can see how it could play into a stereotype of Native Americans. And yes, Maisie is best Rey.
