What impact do you think China, the biggest movie market, has on the new SW films? They have a whole bunch of rules that are completely justified, but then they have listed, “No Homo, no Ghosts, no supernatural.”, and then there’s also John Boyega being little on the TFA poster. Since people in China HATED 8, to the point that they had to market Solo in China very carefully, do you think Disney will be like “9’s probably not going to do well there anyways, so let’s throw in some LGBT rep”?

More like throw in Force Ghost Luke. Much as I’d like LFL/Disney to think in terms of LGBT rep I’m pretty sure that’s not happening.

Okay, I confess I’m a bit confused here. The “no homo” part I get, but “no ghosts and no supernatural” I don’t. Can someone enlighten me? Google isn’t really being helpful or I’m looking for the wrong thing entirely.

I think no ghosts and no supernatural falls under “propagating cults and superstition” (link). Black Panther had a blatant spirit world and conversations with spirits, though, and it was not only allowed in China but did quite well so #NotAllGhosts it seems. I suspect the rule has more to do with suppressing domestic religious fervor that might be a threat, e.g. Falun Gong. Also ancestral spirits like the ones in BP, particularly paternal, may be looked upon more kindly in a Confucian worldview. Hey, so if Luke is someone’s dad he can show up as a ghost? Good news for ReySkys and FinnSkys!

What if Rose and Poe gets together in IX?

They have an already established relationship that goes back quite a bit before TLJ and Poe obviously likes Rose a lot. And Rose like Poe in return.

Not to mention that Poe’s, “How did did you two meet?”, followed by, “Good luck?”, when Rose answers, “Just luck”, can easily read as jealousy of Finn.

He has been developing romantic feelings for Rose but haven’t found the place and time to talk to her about it and now suddenly here’s Finn, the gorgeous, dashing young man who Rose obviously likes a lot and he feels defeated. Not that he think Rose owes him anything, he just wishes that Rose would look at him the way she looks at Finn.

And Rose clearly trust Poe above all else. Having outgrown her unhealthy hero worship of Finn and realized that she’s all the hero she’s ever going to need would make for an excellent basis for a romance between her and Poe.

Evidently there’s a passage in Star Wars Adventures where Rose saves Poe’s life by opening the Raddus’s hangar door where no one else knew how to. She’d just been… like… reading the manual like the giant dork she is. I can imagine her really standing out to him from that moment on.

Listen, first things first about befriending people, online or IRL, don’t let them prey on you or manipulate you. Not everyone on online is someone you wanting to trust, especially in fandoms. Things like grooming, harassment, death threats, and everything in between is just an awful thing and if you’re a minor in this site, please be wary of who you trust.

I agree it’s a good idea to be selective about trust, but predation and manipulation aren’t about “letting” someone do it to you. Very often one’s ability to be skeptical, to set boundaries, and to leave are systematically dismantled until it takes a lot of strength and perspective to be able to bust out. It’s particularly hard for minors when dealing with someone older.

I’d say if something in a relationship feels wrong to you it’s a good idea to talk to someone trustworthy and compassionate. Unfortunately predators very often instill shame and guilt in their victims, making it hard to speak out. For that reason I think it’s important for communities to put out warnings, public and private, about who has been proven untrustworthy so that people, especially minors, know who to stay away from. It’s much easier to steer clear of potentially toxic situations than to try to get out of one.

That doesn’t mean the predatory person has to like die or be shunned forever or anything. I believe in personal growth and people learning to be better. They can work on themselves away from minors and anyone else who could be vulnerable, however, something they would accept if they’re truly sorry. It takes a lot of hard work to change one’s values, which are at the heart of abusive behavior. I would far prefer someone who has preyed on people to suffer social seclusion than to gamble a minor’s well-being on the chance of the wrongdoer being all better now.

“But there were flashbacks in TFA!” Wrong, that was a Force vision and a cryptic one at that that wasn’t expositional. But the fandom’s been obsessed with flashbacks since the sequel trilogy was announced, before TFA even came out. Of course Rian didn’t see a problem with them. He’s from THAT part of the fandom.

Yeah, Luke had a Force vision in ESB and it was pretty much the same thing with Rey. Except the movies never bothered to make any sense of them smh.

Before TLJ, Star Wars didn’t have flashback sequences and exposition of what was happening on the screen, it relied heavily on “show, don’t tell”, and treated the viewer as someone intelligent enough to discern what was happening on screen with their own eyes. This is one of the true proofs as to what makes Rian a terrible writer, besides his desire to subvert a plot that already was when Rey dropped Kylo at the end of TFA.

themandalorianwolf:

TLJ in of itself is a failure for the reasons that it is a movie with only themes and no cohesive story or plot that warrants the claim of originality

And it just… speaks those themes (generally through the characters of Rose and Holdo) instead of showing them organically through story. That is terrible and preachy writing.
