Broken Earth could make an amazing anime, though I’m not sure I actually want one made because I don’t trust anime creators not to whitewash the hell out of it lmao

You might be happy to know then (if you didn’t already) that there’s plans to make a Broken Earth series. I haven’t heard anything more about it though.

Yeah, the news of The Fifth Season television series was from last year. I hope it isn’t one of those projects that have died in development :/

Well I would have hoped that Black Panther had shown that YES people will pay to watch a sci-fi/fantasy series focusing on POC..but they did cancel Luke Cage and decide to make a Vision/Wanda series….

And on top of needing a majority Black of Brown cast , they’ll needed at least one trans woman. Let’s hope Scarlet Jo-however-it’s-spelled- is busy..

Whitewashing and ciswashing in one go? Right up ScarJo’s alley. These
trans actresses would be amazing for the character we’re talking about,
and in fact many others as well. Picspam and mild spoilers below the
cut (the trans character’s identity, plus mentions of characters
from Books 2 and 3):

It’s unbelievable that N.K. Jemisin is the first author in HISTORY to win three Hugo awards for best novel in three consecutive years, yet Amazon and Netflix and more are not begging to adapt the trilogy. In the media environment today promising novels get optioned before they’re even published, but so far it’s little more than crickets to adapt just the first book. I really hope we’ll hear some bombshell announcements down the line. Idc at this point if it’s live-action or animation, I just want a good adaptation.

I
don’t think Laverne Cox is a good fit for Tonkee, personally, but I
think she’d make a perfect Essun. Yes I do want her in the role of an
explicitly cis character who has given birth to children, because why
not?

Kitana
Kiki Rodriguez could be Esni, the tiny blond leader of the Strongbacks,
or the Lorist character at the endgame whose identity I won’t spoil.

Kitana’s
fellow Tangerine alumna Mya Taylor actually looks most like Tonkee as
I’ve imagined her in my head and I would be thrilled to see her cast. In
fact, trans actresses of color would be a perfect solution for the fact
that there are not many working actresses of color who are of Sanzed
height.

Harmony Santana would make a great Ykka.

Just look at singer and actress Jazzmun and tell me she won’t make a perfect Hjarka. She can do the theme song, too.

Conclusion:
These trans actresses are amazing and gorgeous and they need to be in
all the main roles, thank you for coming to my TED talk.

If Kylo Ren gets a Vader-like redemption, only Rey and his family will forgive him. And he will die. If Reylo happens at all it will be for like five seconds before Kylo kicks the bucket and Rey gets over him super quick. But Kylo already killed Snoke. Who exactly is he going to throw down a shaft? Hux? Hux is Kylo’s subordinate and not a Force user. There is no way that could play out the same way as Vader defying Palps because Kylo can’t defy someone who serves him and not vice versa.

themandalorianwolf:

Now I’m not for a Kylo redemption personally. I’m more in the let him rot away in jail cut away from the force like Ozai or have him on the run as a wanted fugitive. Nevertheless, one thing I’ll never understand is why does everyone put Reylow and Kylo redemption in the same spot? cousins, siblings, former classmates, or party members in a Fortnite match, nothing is going to change the fact that Kylo and Rey aren’t friends or even close. At this point its clear as day that Finn and Rey are in love with each other and they’re both going to be fighting against Kylo.

Regardless of if Kylo lives, dies, goes into exile or prison, Kylo and Rey will never be anything other than enemies.

God tier is if Finn does turn out to be a Force Void, and after Rey distracts Ren by fighting him to a standstill Finn and Ghost Luke move in to cut Kylo’s ties to the Force, giving him an Ozai ending of powerlessness and jail. If Finn can invert his Force Void and project it on others he would have the raw power to neutralize Kylo’s threat permanently. Luke, who did it to himself in life, has the experience to guide Finn.

Afterward Kylo tries to throw his Force powers around like he’s used to, and imagine how ridiculous he would look–he reaches out at Finn to strangle him and nothing happens. He tries to snatch Rey’s lightsaber and it doesn’t even rattle. He tries to mind-trick the Poe, and at Poe’s order the Resistance tackle the Supreme Leader, cuffing him. (Bonus points if they can work in Leia watching sadly but impassively, maybe by screen.) Ren has an epic meltdown as he’s arrested and we all see him for the ridiculous manchild he is without making him some tragic martyr figure, in-universe or in the real world.

Finn going from unconsciously defending himself with his Force immunity to projecting it outward, btw, would also be a neat parallel to his character arc from being focused on protecting himself and those in his immediate sphere to making changes in the universe at large. If he is a Force Void it’s likely to be his innate powers responding to trauma and danger, so of course its first application would be to shield and defend himself. As he realizes he cannot be free without others and his sphere of protection expands, so the Force Void itself would turn outward and would ultimately reach the level of actively taking out threats.

So basically Rey is Zuko in this scenario who was tortured and mindfucked by Ozai before she defies and leaves him, but refuses to kill him despite having a clear chance because she sees it’s not her path. Ghost Luke is the Lion Turtle, a supernatural font of ancient lost wisdom who knows the source of all power and knows how to cut it off. Finn is Aang, brought up to be an emotionless fighting machine before he runs away, bearer of a unique power that earned him the Big Bad’s undying enmity before he learns the ancient knowledge and neuters the villain without killing him. It would be like the Avatar finale except better foreshadowed and more organically intertwined in the protagonist’s arc.

(And then we end IX with a great big Zukaang kiss, hopefully.)

Just wanted to say thank you for the message of Not Without You. The thought of trying to migrate elsewhere is stressful as all get out. I remember the end days of LJ, when people were finally so sick of the place and enough people had finally moved over to Tumblr that following after felt relatively easy. Right now I feel like we’re looking at the end days of Tumblr but I’m not really sure what comes next, and knowing that I’m not going to be left behind helps a lot.

Well, I don’t think we’re at the end days yet, but we’re definitely in the “it would be worth investigating what a next good move would look like” phase of things.

I tell you, I have had the advantage of my life of being the technically stupidest person in a lot of rooms, and so I totally understand the feelings of helplessness and terror.   But this helps me a lot in teaching because I don’t automatically assume that the person I’m talking to understands what I mean at all!

The tl;dr is that I am learning that there are a lot of new tools that can be deployed to connect networks of people just like ours – what lim was saying in her post is that our network, fandom, is itself a huge resource that we have, because networks themselves have power in distributed systems!  However the question of which tools and in what order to deploy them and how to use them and to what result has to be evaluated, but you know–don’t worry, we can do this! I reblogged lim’s post because she’s like, 100  miles ahead of me on this stuff and there are other people who 100 miles ahead of me too, out on the frontiers, but I wanted to say that I will always straggle behind and try to figure out where we’re going and leave signs and wave my arms around a lot.  xo

our network, fandom, is itself a huge resource that we have, because networks themselves have power in distributed systems!

Right! This is exactly it. I have a foot in both worlds b/c of RL (meshnet stuff) and it’s honestly whiplash to go from distributed computing and decentralised web stuff where they are wading through tools and software and approaches and ideas but don’t have the networks (the largest p2p search engine has like, 600 peer operators, approximately the size of an abandoned tumblr about the sock choices of Bucky Barnes) and fandom where the #1 concern is how to cope with the avalanche of content and people and sheer BYTES and ACTIVITY we produce. It’s like, fandom is constantly making these posts going ‘but what are we going to do with all this GOLD? We just can’t DEAL with this amount of GOLD. THIS GOLD IS A GODDAMN ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARD.’

The problem of handling data (for art and vids) is only a problem if you have to host it all in a central location. In decentralised systems, the more people you have in your network, and the more densely interconnected they are, the more powerful and faster it becomes. The more you are making content people really value, without the distortions of an algorithm based on selling attention (bad attention is more profitable than good attention) to adbots, the stronger your network. The stronger your community, the better your Trust Model and the more reliable your connections. Communities that can afford social standing to good citizens, that have some way of uplifting those citizens, can shape the norms they want in their community in positive ways. Fandom can do all this. Fandom is naturally strong is exactly these ways and is being injured in precisely these areas by the profit model.

Fandom has its problems, for sure, and the new places we migrate to and the new platforms will have new problems – unavoidable. But… we have all this gold, and IMO if we stay in this space it will slip through our fingers.

I’ve slung up a dat://limvids.net on a homebase set up now (I will put up a step by step) and turned on and I will leave it on.  This is probably not the exact right answer. This is just one step on the journey. But let’s throw some stuff at the wall and see what sticks.

Shouting out lim’s shout out of my shout out:

* “the largest p2p search engine has like, 600 peer operators, approximately the size of an abandoned tumblr about the sock choices of Bucky Barnes”
(CES ADDS: I HAVE SO MANY MORE PEOPLE THAN THIS WITHIN THE SOUND OF MY VOICE RIGHT NOW!!  AND THIS IS WHERE THE LURKERS REALLY CAN SUPPORT US IN EMAIL.  MAKE “SEED” THE NEW KUDOS–like my vids? Seed me!  Like my art? Seed me!)

* “The more you are making content people really value (CES ADDS: FIC ART VIDS GIFS MEMES RECS), without the distortions of an algorithm based on selling attention (bad attention is more profitable than good attention) to adbots, the stronger your network.”

* “Fandom is constantly making these posts going ‘but what are we going to do with all this GOLD? We just can’t DEAL with this amount of GOLD. THIS GOLD IS A GODDAMN ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARD.’”
