Why are the rylos trying to call antis ableist for criticizing Kylo, just because they headcanon him as having BPD? I’ve seen more and more posts like this on my dash and it’s just pissing me off so much. Just a warning, this is more of a spur-of-the-moment rant than any coherent analysis of Kylo’s character, but I just needed to vent.

First off, it’s a headcanon, not a definite fact. Headcanons are subjective in the best of times. Even though I agree that Kylo displays many BPD symptoms (a la Anakin in the prequels), this has never been confirmed either by supplementary material or Lucasfilm executives. Because of that simple fact, other fans have the right to headcanon Kylo’s mental health in any damn way they please. So do you! You are perfectly free to headcanon Kylo as BPD, but that doesn’t mean you can go around forcing your headcanon onto others.

Second, and more importantly, having a mental illness is no excuse for committing atrocities such as murder, genocide, patricide, terrorism, and mental violation. I stated when I reblogged the original post that there is a difference between an explanation and a justification, and I’ll reaffirm that. If Kylo was confirmed as having BPD, nothing is changed about his morality. The way he acts would be better explained, sure, but certainly not justified.

There’s a difference and people need to get that into their heads. Mental illness does not physically make you do anything, and I say this as some who has faced these issues multiple times. It influences you heavily and dangerously, but any physical reaction is a response that you yourself have decided to act on. Mental illnesses are terrible misfortunes that mess up your perception of life in general, and although they may influence you heavily, you are still responsible for carrying out these awful actions.

Hell, I have bipolar disorder. If I commit a murder and blame a manic episode for “making me do it,” I still deserve to be prosecuted. What makes Kylo any different?

Characters who were compared to Killa Renner who Do Not Deserve That Shit

  • Prince Zuko
  • The Beast
  • Mr. Darcy
  • Eugene Fitzherbert/Flynn Rider
  • Even fucking Heathcliff
  • No not that one, the trash one
  • Toothless
  • Mai

Characters who totally deserve it:

  • Frollo
  • The Phantom of the Opera
  • Firelord Ozai

Above all, real people who DEFINITELY do not deserve that shit:

  • Abuse survivors who are constantly told they are inevitably going to become abusers themselves

(Source: Dean Trippe, Something Terrible)

  • People with mental illnesses who live with
enough stigma and don’t need to be used as an excuse for some fucking
    fictional fascist

Today my mom told me that the way I stimmed embarrassed her because she said it “made me look autistic” but uh, I am autistic.

She prohibits me from discussing my diagnosis with anyone (I ignore this – I’m really open about my diagnosis at school and online) and not even my extended family knows. The one time that I brought it up, she told my family that I was lying.

Don’t teach your kids to be ashamed of their autism, or any other disability/disorder/illness that they may have. Trying to suppress it doesn’t make it go away. Trying to suppress it only hurts even more.

Once you help your kids know themselves and embrace themselves and all of their differences, you will help their world become a better place.

Please don’t teach your kids to be ashamed of their diagnosis. You can’t hide a part of them from the world for forever

Fat disabled people are ok.

It’s ok to be fat and disabled.

It’s ok to use mobility aids as much or as little as works for you.

You are the boss of your own body. You have done nothing wrong.

I support you. You are important.

Making shitty jokes or being an asshole about fat people who need mobility scooters is wrong.

Anyone who replies to this with something nasty about fat people who use mobility scooters will be blocked.

I don’t care if you’ve followed this blog for three years. Immediately blocked.

You are making people afraid to use the tools they need to be able to use, that exist to make life easier for them. That is NOT ok. You should be ashamed of your behavior.

Go do better.

And I won’t get thinner if I ‘‘get up and do something “

No I won’t.

I don’t care what your personal knowledge of biology is. I live in this body and know better than you what it can do.

white people are racist by default (in the united states as well as other countries). are you white? congrats, you’re racist, and here’s the explanation:

you grew up in a racist society -> you were socialized to be racist thanks to racism being a dominant ideology -> you benefit from racism -> you’re racist no matter how much u think you’re not.

unlearning it is going to be a constant battle and u will never unlearn it fully. accept this. it is ingrained in you as a result of your upbringing and the media you’ve consumed. the sooner you come to terms with your own racism, the sooner u can better yourself. recognize the problem in yourself instead of setting yourself apart from those “other” white people.

I fux heavy with the White people who keep putting this post on my dash

This applies to all social structures by the way.

You’re a man? You grew up benefitting from sexism.
You’re straight? You grew up with homophobic ideals.
You’re cis? You grew up with transphobic ideals.
You’re able bodied? You grew up with ableist tendencies.

The process of unlearning all of the ideology you were surrounded by is what activism is about. Do it.

And even if you’re not privileged under a given social structure, you might still have a lot of internalized things to unlearn

Our society teaches us to hate the oppressed, if an oppressed person says that what you believe or do is harmful and they tell you – don’t get offended, learn and do better

The important thing here is, nobody’s blaming you (the general “you”) for this. I think a big part of the reason people get so offended when they hear these attitudes is because it sounds like “you’re a horrible person and support these things”. That’s not what it means, and that’s not what you are.

But society feeds us a steady diet of memetic poison almost from the day we’re born, and for each blend of poison there are groups who are more or less immune, groups who are harmed in ways they don’t really notice and groups who suffer horribly from it. It’s not your fault that you’ve been fed poison, and nobody is blaming you for having been fed poison.

It’s just… the poison is there, and because you’ve been fed so much of it, it’s in your bloodstream and your lips and your head. And you might not notice it’s there if it’s not harming you or visibly harming others around you, and spread it without realising that’s what you’re doing.

That’s why it’s so important to recognise and identify harmful ideologies for what they are and learn about the harm they do, so you can start checking your first reaction and changing the ways you’ve been taught to act and think.

Every time I see a ‘modern au’ ft a character that has some sort of limb replacement like a metal arm or w/e and the ‘cool au version’ of it is a sleeve tattoo I literally want to reach through the screen and slap some sense into whoever posted it

They got a prosthetic in canon they gonna get a prosthetic in the au!!!! Because, I know this is a little far-fetched, but people who need prosthetics actually exist!!! In real life?! What a coincidence?!

Also you want cool prosthetics??? They totally exist

Want your character to have a cool prosthetic in the modern day?

steampunk? check

Fake Service Dogs?

huskychronicles:

trainingfaith:

You’re sitting at a cafe with your friend when suddenly a woman walks in with a toy poodle in her purse. The manager at the counter informs her “I’m sorry, but we do not allow dogs”. She replies with a heavy sigh and a “She’s a service dog. She can come with me”. Not knowing much about service dog law, and worrying about getting sued for asking further questions, he sits this woman down at a booth. There, she promptly unzips her purse and places the dog on the booth seat next to her. When the woman’s food comes out, the little dog begs and she feeds her bits off her plate. This dog is not public access trained, and proceeds to bark at those who walk by. This dog is a nuisance and causes many in the restaurant to complain. The manager cannot do anything but inform the unhappy customers that this is a service dog, so he can’t ask her to leave. In the end, it’s the customers who end up leaving.

Now I walk in with my highly trained service dog pressed against my leg in a perfect heel position, and I’m quickly bombarded by the manager telling me “No dogs! No dogs! We ALL know what happened last time”. Confused, I tell him “This is my medical alert and medical response service dog. Her right to accompany me is protected under federal law.” With a sigh, he seats me at a table far away from others where my dog promptly tucks under my feet, out of sight. When my food arrives my dog is still tucked tightly under the table because she knows she’s not supposed to eat when she’s on duty. She stays there ignoring those who walk past for the remainder of my meal. When we leave, a woman by the door exclaims “Woah, I didn’t know there was a dog here!”

See the difference?

Scenario number two occurs at a local grocery store when a man decides to bring his certified emotional support animal into the store with him. Upon entering he flashes a fancy ID card and certification papers. This dog is not as unruly as the first, but he still forges ahead of his handler, sniffs the food on display, and may seek attention from those who walk past. You find this dog adorable, and when he and his owner walk past you ask to pet him. The owner says yes and explains how all he had to do was go online, register his dog, and a few weeks later they sent him a vest, ID card, and certification papers.

Now I pull into the same grocery store. I’m in a rush to get an ingredient for a dish I’m making so I hurry into the store with my service dog next to me. I’m quickly stopped by a manager who demands to see my service dog’s certification card. Remember, this is NOT required by law, and most real service dog teams don’t have them. After 15 minutes of trying to educate, pulling up the ADA website on my phone, back and forth bickering, and drawing more of a crowd than I want to describe… I’m finally allowed in. I grab my ingredient, stand in line (where my service dog obediently moves between my legs to make space for those around me), and I get bombarded by people asking to pet my dog. I explain that she’s working, she has a very important job to do, and she’s not allowed to be pet while on duty. People walk away grumbling and complaining about how rude I was when other handlers like the man they met earlier allow their dog to be pet.

Moral of the story? Fake service dogs create real problems. The ones who are impacted the most are the true service dog handlers who rely on their dogs every day to help mitigate their disability. How would you feel if everywhere you went, you couldn’t make it 10 feet in the door because people were asking you questions? Imagine how much time that would take out of your already hectic day. Businesses lose customers because word gets out that there are unruly dogs in their store, customers become misinformed and start thinking some of these behaviors are okay, some people even start to believe the lies that anyone can just register their dog online and make him a service dog. The result? MORE fake service dogs. MORE real problems.

I will reblob this until I die because it’s one of the few things that constantly genuinely infuriates me

True talk

The only reason why Rey thinks Kyle might be redeemable in TLJ is because of Finn. Think about it:

In the TFA, as soon as Finn and Rey became an alliance, he always put her needs first, which she has never experienced in her life before. When Finn explains himself to Rey, she understands his situation of being is a man who was orphaned, tortured and conditioned into being a foot soldier for the evil. But even despite this and his obvious fear of the First Order, he puts his neck on the line to save Rey and the Resistance time and time again from joining the resistance mission to fighting Kyle.

No wonder she thought Kyle could be redeemed because if Finn, who has without a doubt suffered more in his lifetime than Kyle has, can take a stand toward the light and be a goddamn hero then any decent person can.

Only problem is Kyle isn’t a decent person and certainly isn’t nearly as good as Finn is.

Hey op you realize Kylo and Finn two different characters right. Both went through abuse Kylo( Snoke) and Finn( Fo) both of their abuse were different. This literally like “ good survivor” vs “ bad survivor” Both have their own arcs and paths

Like abuse people pick up signs different. Not everyone is lucky to noticed let alone get out when they have chance. Finn saw a chance and got out however it’s not quite same for Kylo.

You don’t need pit these two characters against each other. You don’t need to lift Finn up while pushing Kylo down.

Dislike Kylo fine but it’s really not needed to say why you like Finn.

People who compare abuse survivors and say UWU one should do better because another succeeded are the scummiest assholes who have no comprehension of how hard it is to recover.

This literally sounds so god damn ableist. What the fuck, OP

Some people?? commit mass murder?? to cope???

Anyway, Kyle Ron is a war criminal piece of shit who deserves death 🙂
