Lot of people on this site say reylow is endgame, but with the obvious chemistry between Finn & Rey, J.J. Abrams’ return, & the fact that Disney is behind episode IX, a relationship with a space nazi seems pretty far-fetched. Redemption maybe, but not a believable & healthy romance like what we got with Han & Leia. Ren tried to kill Rey & doesn’t even know her name. I feel like Reylows read into things that aren’t really there while being condescending. Why do they feel smarter than other fans?

It’s their way of convincing themselves that they see a truth no one else does. Like any cult, diehard canon Reylow depends on constructing a reality divorced from the the real world. An affect of absolute certainty and assurances that the leaders have some deeper insight that no one else has, with any detractors said to be ignorant or evil or both, is a major way of discouraging followers from offering dissent or seeking out information on their own. Why should they when these opposing opinions are obviously inferior, uninformed, and unworthy? This helps disguise the fact that a lot of what’s being peddled is unadulterated bullshit, and it’s precisely because it’s bullshit that this kind of pretensions are necessary to keep the charade going.

I’m really sad that sw is making a sequel duology bc it woulda been great to have an entire movie to establish all of the Knights of Ren before half of them push past their fear of Kyle and fight the other half in a beautiful redemption sequence, and instead we get one movie where we meet them and then pull the redemptive betrayal.

Is there more news of the Knights of Ren movie I hadn’t heard of? We already have plot details?

@lj-writes there making more SW movies? I thought ep 9 was all in the line up.

Doesn’t the Boba Fett movie have a director now? The KoR movie is much less definite, it’s just something J.J. said he would like to see made (link), though it turned out the anon was actually talking about Episode IX.

Someone on tumblr calling themselves a anti-anti said that being anti was a purity culture, that this lead to real abusers go free and that antis don’t care about real abusers among them. I not even see you and others as anti, just critical and analytical in a way a straight white people seems to can’t.

I mean make no mistake, there absolutely are antis who are abusers and harass people over a ship, and I don’t associate with people who act this way. I can’t speak for all antis or an anti “community” assuming one even exists; all I can do is take responsibility for my own actions and curate my interactions. And I’ll continue to be critical and analytical of the canon text and opinions that have currency in fandom. Assholes who try to paint that as inherently harassing or abusive can go take a hike.

The claim that antis let abusers a free pass is rich coming from an anti-anti too, seeing how I regularly get troll anons jeering at me about my age, have received a blitz of racist anons including the n-word (that one was… confusing), and how a big-name reylow fan very transparently tried to set a harassment gang on me while hiding behind a block. I did get a few anons and notes using the exact words she fed her followers, though not as many as expected–she must be losing her touch. And this shipper herself was temporarily harassed off her blog by fellow reylows for very mildly calling out the demonization of Finn, showing just how normalized harassment is in that part of the fandom as a tool for silencing dissent. While antis who are harassers and bullies definitely exist, I have not seen a big-name anti blogger purposefully use their platform to direct harassment at someone, nor have I seen antis driven off their blog by fellow antis.

Things have gotten to the point where most of the blogs of any prominence that discuss fandom racism and are critical of reylow and reylows have turned off anon or their asks altogether due to harassment. That probably accounts for the amount of activity in my inbox, since more than one anon has cited the fact that I’m one of the few “antis” who allow anon. Reylow shippers have, in a very real sense, managed to choke off an important route of communication on Tumblr by harassing people who disagree with them.

If this anti-anti focuses exclusively on harassment by antis while ignoring what a massive problem it is among shippers, then they don’t really care about harassment as an issue. They’re using it to score points against people they don’t like.

How can I get in contact with @thelastjedicritical? They don’t have an ask box and I don’t have a Tumblr

lj-writes:

Then it’s possible they don’t want to be contacted by non-Tumblr users, but I’ll try @-ing just in case. Yo @thelastjedicritical someone wants to talk to you!

They’re not comfortable giving you their contact info off Tumblr, but if you have a specific question feel free to send it to me on anon and I’ll let them know.

There’s a rumor that Adam and John are training in sword fighting together? Part 2 if their fight or is this another team up where “Ben” is redeemed?

Given they way their last fight ended, I much prefer the first option. The second would have to be done really, really well if it is not to feel like a trite rehash of the throne room fight and an abrupt turnaround for the Kyle Ron character. And God, I don’t want a movie where Finn is forced to ignore the injustices done against him like Rey was in TLJ.

Anidala Anon: I actually don’t think Anidala and Reylo are comparable in their entirety or in many thematic ways. I was just curious of your own beliefs/interpretation. If Reylo does end up being canon (who knows what JJ will do), I think it would stand alone from Anidala, and for good reasons. A complete redemption of Ben Solo would absolutely have to occur, and he would have to want it and achieve it on his own. I am not here for Rey having to fix anyone or anything. Thanks for answering!

My problem with that scenario is that it would make Episode IX entirely about Kylo, with everyone else playing second fiddle while he undoes the developments of the past two movies. Kylo already made it abundantly clear what exactly he wants, it would be a hell of a course correction for his desire to completely change. I also find the character being so centered unlikely when J.J. pretty much called him a neo-Nazi, a group I doubt he has warm and fuzzy feelings for.

And if Kylo does repent and crawls to Rey’s doorstep begging for forgiveness, why would she take him? He’s still the man who tortured her, used her to gain power, tried to kill all her friends, and emotionally abused her. What exactly does he offer her? I never get a real answer when I ask this question.

Anyway, thanks for stopping by. Have fun.

Same anon as before: What in the film’s makes you think their relationship was over (again, genuine question)? Padme’s final words were “Obi-Wan… there… is good in him. I know there is… still—” before she died of a broken heart. When Anakin/Vader realizes she is dead, he screams in anger. Does that make you think their relationship is over and they no longer love each other?

They may have still loved each other for what each had once been to the other, but there was no relationship there anymore. People who have feelings for each other split up all the time because it’s not working. Like, what about Anakin choking a pregnant Padmé and her literally dying of grief made you think there was anything functional between them anymore?

Furthermore, Padmé and Anakin’s love grew out of the good times they had shared, their initial friendship, Anakin’s years-long crush on her, meeting again as grownups, fighting side by side, sharing and consummating their feelings, getting married.

What positivity existed between Rey and Ren? The time he knocked her out and kidnapped her? The time he tortured her? The time he murdered her father figure? The time he knocked her out again? The time he nearly killed her best friend? The time she asked him, weeping, why he had killed Han and he turned it on her to hurt her with her abandonment issues? The time she asked him to put on a shirt in a situation where she couldn’t avoid him, and he ignored her? The time he manipulated her and used her as bait to take power, which firmly includes the throne room battle? The time he announced he would kill all her friends? The time he declared her to be “nothing” except to him?

Tell me, what is the positive moment that existed between them that brings them anywhere near Anidala’s level? What makes you think it’s likely she would give him yet another chance?
