YouTube’s algorithm…I mean yes this is about flat-earthers, and we all like to laugh about them, but something has to be said about the fact that conspiracy theories are spread so easily to impressionable youth at a GLOBAL scale. And its not just flat-earthers, it’s Naziism, it’s anti-Semitism, islamophobia, it’s all the terrible radicalization that is happening. It’s all connected, and it’s so so easy to become radicalized because of YouTubes algorithm.

Jewish Women are Beautiful

nativepeopleproblems:

Dear Jewish women;
The media is unkind to you. Your features are cast as ugly, evil, undesirable. A hooked nose and curly hair are Hollywood’s shorthand for villainy and frump alike. I remember watching the Princess Diaries as a kid and feeling hurt, even if I couldn’t, at the time, explain why.
But the media is lying. We are stunning, we are ethereal. Our noses are regal, our skin dazzling; our hair is like a crown of clouds on our heads. The media is lying to us, and it’s time we unlearn it.

Felicity Jones as Ruth Bader Ginsburg & Armie Hammer as Martin Ginsburg in “On the basis of sex” releasing this fall

Soooo why didn’t they hire a Jewish actor to play Ruth???

WHAT THE FLYING FUCK! YOU HAVE FUCKING GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!

They’ve cast some goyische schmuck as Ruth Bader Ginsberg an iconic Jewish woman, who has repeatedly and at length talked about how much her indetity as Jewish meant for both her decision to enter law in the first place and in her daily work as lawyer and judge as well?

I freaking hope this movie flops so hard and I hope Felicity’s career crashes and burns.

It turns my stomach all the more because there is no way to mistake the Justice for a white Gentile woman. They decided that her very distinctly Jewish looks were not good enough for the screen. This woman is one of my heroes; there’s no expressing what some of her opinions have meant to me when I was raging and despairing, how her clarity of thought and righteous anger guided me. How dare they erase her identity and her face?

I thought about bringing this up but I was so incensed I was barely coherent at the time. But absolutely hell yes!

This just- Like it’s actually considered a compliment to tell a Jewish woman that she “doesn’t look very Jewish”. I’ve lost count on how many times in my life I’ve heard it and a) I look very Jewish so why the hell are you lying and b) it’s like we’re only allowed to exist if we’re can pass acceptably for a white goy in every way including appearance.

You know how may Jewish girls and women who look like Ruth does who hates how they look because they know they look “too Jewish” to be desirable? And all we ever get to be on screen is Mother Gothel or Elphaba if we’re lucky. Maybe, maybe we can be the funny weird chick in a comedy. But we freaking never get to be heroines in the traditional sense.

So fuck this movie all the way.

Recent events on my campus has a lot of faculty at my college suggesting that every time we see something in the “free speech zone” saying something hateful, we should just ignore them and walk peacefully past. I understand where that logic comes from, and it’s true that one of the guys who shows up all the time is clearly seeking attention, but I can’t help but feel this is a somewhat privileged response to that kind of presence on campus. If you’re someone being “preached” against, there stands to be a lot of psychological damage in seeing that rhetoric in your place of learning go unchallenged by anyone. It feels far more comforting to see other students enraged at that person’s message and arguing with them about it, no matter how ineffective it might be on that person directly. It’s a powerful social message and it seems like a lot of people discount the power of that.

Yes!! It’s not only a privileged reaction, it’s an oblivious and harmful one. Verbal aggression against marginalized people is, at heart, a test–a test whether you can go farther without pushback. I read about a study that says in an environment where verbal sexual harassment goes unpunished sexual violence is likelier to happen. If you as a group show yourselves to be okay with bigotry in verbal form, congratulations, you’ve shown you don’t care about women, racial and ethnic minorities, LGBT+ people, and disabled people. You have broadcast that this is a safe space for bigots and those who agree with them, and that the bolder bigots can proceed to attempt violence.

Push back against these shitclowns. Give them hell. Tell the people they preach hate against, you are not alone and we will fight for you. Tell the haters, you will find no easy prey here. Doesn’t mean you have to waste time with their nonexistent substance, but you can counterprotest, you can raise “I’m with stupid” signs, you can drown them out, hell, you can sing opera like one awesome guy did. Show these moldy walnuts for the jokes they are.

Are there going to be violent reactions from some? Yes, but the thing is these people were going to be violent anyway. They were just going to be violent against the specific groups they hate, and now they’re lashing out because they realize their targets have allies. Take precautions, but if they throw the first punch? Better for them to be outnumbered by good people than be able to isolate a vulnerable target. Better if they get in trouble for striking someone privileged than get away scott-free for an attack on someone more marginalized. That’s the right way to use privilege. If you want to be an ally, if you want to be a good person, sometimes you put your body where your mouth is.

There’s a new movie coming out where they hired Adam Driver to play a Jewish cop and I’m not ready for all the people who will assume Adam is Jewish (again) after this film.

hanukkahfinn:

Just saw a post about that, and fuck Adam Driver and his racist, Islamophobic, Antisemitic ass.

This is your daily reminder that Adam Driver is not Jewish, never has been and as a white goy shouldn’t be playing Jewish roles. But funny how a white goy who looks like a Jewish stereotype can get jobs while Jewish actors who looks like a Jewish stereotype have a hard to getting work because they look “too Jewish”. And when they do get it it’s 99.9% of the time as some negative Jewish stereotype.

So genuinely fuck Adam Driver, I hope the movie flops and his career does too.

It’s funny how when Hollywood wants evil Gentile (or not explicitly Jewish) characters, they so often get Jewish actors… but when there’s a heroic Jewish character, suddenly no one but a white goy actor who “looks” Jewish will do.

Do not support Adam (2018)

I recently heard the news that Adam by Ariel Schrag will be getting a movie. I read the book myself about a year and a half ago and I cannot stress enough just how problematic it is.

Adam is a book about a cis boy pretending to be a trans man in order to trick a lesbian into dating him.

Adam goes to New York to stay with his lesbian sister for the summer, and while he’s there he meets trans men who consider themselves lesbians. At a party he meets a lesbian he thinks is pretty and in order to get into a relationship with her he lies and tells her he’s a pre transition trans man. Let’s make a list of some of the highlights from the book, shall we?

  • At the very beginning of the book his sister and her girlfriend visit home and Adam and his friend spies on them having sex.
  • Almost all the trans men in the book identify as lesbians, implying that they are still women because they haven’t transitioned yet.
  • Adam, a cis straight boy, tells a lesbian that he is a trans man to trick her into dating him.
  • Incidentally Adam is 17 I believe, pretending to be 21. His girlfriend is in the 23 range, I don’t recall exactly.
  • There are explicit sex scenes, the first of which involved Adam using an ace bandage to hold his erection down and using a strapon to have sex with her.
  • In the second one he claims to be using a strapon but is, in reality, using his actual penis.
  • Which is fucking rape.
  • The book doesn’t try to justify this, it somehow manages to do something worse.
  • This second scene is one of the last in the book. After he pulls out he lays down next to her and confesses that he’s not trans. She responds “I know.”
  • She says after they first had sex she started fantasizing about him as a “real guy” (yes quote) and that the image stuck in her mind and she started subconsciously imagining him with a penis.
  • And it gets worse.
  • So he goes back to ohio and she sleeps with other girls (because for some reason she decides not to break up with this cis 17 year old who lied about his identity literally raped her) and one night he gets drunk and calls her a bitch and a fucking whore and whatever, and THAT’S apparently the point she thinks that maybe they should break up.
  • And one day they message eachother to catch up i think maybe he graduated at this point idk but hes planning on visiting his sister in new york and they wanna meet up and
  • She tells him about her new boyfriend.
  • Get ready for it
  • Cis. Man.

So. We have

An underage cishet boy lying about being an adult trans man in order to trick a lesbian into dating him!

A scene in which he actually rapes her!

The lesbian in question becomes attracted to cis men making Adam, essentially, conversion therapy!

Do NOT support Adam (2018)

Ariel Schrag used to sometimes be in my high school for some reason, so I’ve met her in person and let me tell you with just one look at her it becomes obvious that she sees trans men as an advanced form of butch women

Ugh, this is both lesbophobic AND transphobic. Every single bit of this is gross. Just when you thought Hollywood was getting “better” it pulls this shit.

Google Books summary:

“But then he meets Gillian, the girl of his dreams. If only she weren’t a lesbian! And if only she didn’t believe he was really (sort of) a girl.”

Why are things so gross and terrible.

The cover of this book includes the following endorsement by Alison Bechdel: “The sexual revolution is finally over, and Ariel Schrag has won.”

… K alison, whatever you say.

Also according to other reviews it is really racist, including the n word and the phrase “weird Asian pussies”

Also the character described himself as half Jewish and there is someone with a “jew fetish”.

In doing my research for this paper, I stumbled across the coldest take I have ever seen. This bitch is trying to say that the Dred Scott case and Roe v Wade show equal disregard for strict definitions of who counts as human under the protections of the constitution, and I tell you what I’m not fucking reading this shit.

Fuck these anti-abortion fake comparisons, I’m done.

Like! Listen to this shit this is in the abstract:

Both Dred Scott and Roe v. Wade erred not by engaging substantive moral questions but rather by denying, in different ways, the natural rights of human persons.

idk man but uhhh I seem to remember Roe v Wade having some science somewhere in there you fucking troglodyte what the fuck??

Also what is the natural “right” to an unwilling person’s body parts asdfdklgl

What a great fucking question! I tried reading some more but it just got messier like b u d d y. I cannot fathom how far up your own racist ass you have to be to even remotely entertain discussion that “yeah slaves are cool” is in any way equitable to “you have a right to an abortion” like???

Oh it’s one of anti-abortionists’ favorite comparisons, right up there with the Holocaust. I’ve never seen a human tragedy they don’t like to appropriate for their own agenda.
