Oh look, Her Royal Pain In The Arse being Antisemitic. Again.

It’s particularly hilarious that she appropriates and devalues Jewish people’s trauma in a post where she begs to have her own trauma re: cancer respected. Other people who have had close relatives die of cancer do according to her not get to have a different opinion than hers on the topic of using “like a cancer” as an idiom, but she gets to appropriate a trauma that isn’t hers at all for rhetorical purposes.

Right, Hannah. Go step on a Lego

And the irony is, unlike antis’ requests to shippers hers was actually listened to. She wasn’t told, at least not by me, that other people who suffered the same thing are fine with it so she had to suck it up. She wasn’t told to filter the anti reylo tag. I may not feel the same way she does about the comparison but that gives me no right to override her feelings and those of others who are hurt by it, obviously. The Empress of Jack Schitt was just pissy I wasn’t giving her proper deference in the antis’ own tag.

But yeah, somehow that’s an occasion for comparing a naturally occurring disease, which is devastating in its own right and DOESN’T NEED A COMPARISON, with the intentional attempted destruction of an entire people and all the unspeakable crimes it entailed. I can’t even comprehend the thought process here.

On the one hand: I can’t wait for finery to become canon and to give the loudest whoop of my life, and possibly burst into tears, as they have their epic onscreen kiss.

On the other hand: John got so much racist shit thrown his way just for being IN Star Wars. I don’t want to think about how much more he might have to endure if he kisses a white woman on screen. Daisy would get shit, too–the reactions to her Instagram postings are a good indicator–but the brunt of the rage will be focused on John and possibly JJ. Fortunately John has shown the fortitude to show grace and humor in the face of hatred, but he really shouldn’t have to.

I am still amazed that someone actually typed out and sent the sentence, “I refuse to be accused of being racist when when there are actual awful people in the world who ARE racist. that is my human right.“

And a few lines down in the same message: “

I’m very hurt by the racism displayed by you, though.“ Ummmmm because the recipient evidently doesn’t enjoy this purported human right not to be called a racist…?

Bonus points because the whole boring-ass spiel was about freedom of speech. Freedom of speech, of course, is about the HUMAN RIGHT to silence people who call you racist.

Extra bonus points: A white woman sent the above to a Black woman. Because of course.

Oh man, I’ve been following that whole garbage fire. It started (for those not following along) because the “My Human Right” one jumped into a post tagged anti reylo to agree with a different reylo who said antis get pissy if Finn isn’t on every piece of merchandise. When a couple Black fans responded to that, they said something along the lines of “I forgot these people are incapable of reason and being civil.” And when the can opened, they played victim.

And now if you go to the fandom racism tag, you see shit like this:

Reylos are becoming increasingly open about their perception of being victims of “reverse” racism. Remember a Kylostan who was on your post a while back insisting we hate Kylo because he’s white? This coopting of racist narratives for white people is the actual fuel behind white supremacist and white nationalist ideology (see: white genocide) and it’s worrying. You know and I know that if/when Finnrey becomes canon and all hopes of canon Reylo are gone it’s going to be cited as more evidence of so called white genocide. And JJ Abrams, obviously, is going to be the bogeyman who pushed miscegenation on Star Wars in a Jewish plot to destroy the white race.

By this I don’t mean shipping Reylo directly equals conscious support of white supremacy or that all Reylos are white nationalists, obviously. Rather I mean this isn’t just a fandom problem. The claiming of white victimhood by a few vocal shippers is part of a wider backlash to culture becoming just marginally more diverse than before, and people of color becoming a little more assertive. A lot of white fans aren’t used to that and to them it feels threatening.

City officials in Vilna, Lithuania are trying to build a convention center atop half a millennia worth of Jewish remains. Due to the near-complete extermination of Lithuania’s Jews and the fact that most of the remainder have left, most of the people buried here don’t have any family to speak up for them. So instead the Jewish community of Vilna, Lithuania is asking for signatures to pressure the government to move this project elsewhere.

This is also happening not long after Lithuania elected a far-right, fashy neopagan president

Oh it’s super connected to that. The far right has been in power in Lithuania for years. The guy who I heard about this from runs a website about like, the entire wave of Holocaust denial and desecration of Jewish cemeteries and shit like that in Eastern Europe: http://www.defendinghistory.com/

I’m super not-okay with that Mike Dawson “Why Did They Come” comic. If you’re a graphic artist in the U.S.? You know damn well what Maus is. Goyische graphic artists do not get to use the mouse-cat analogy for people fleeing their countries due to oppression, especially if those people aren’t Jewish, and certainly not if the text of the panel that does involve Jews absurdly downplays what was actually happening.

Like, you can make the exact same point without appropriating a seminal document of the Shoah’s aftermath.

Oh, it’s even worse than I thought. It says “Apologies to Art Spiegelman and Don Bluth.” Nope. Nope nope nope, you don’t get to rip this off. Make the same point and just change the fucking mice/cat thing – it’s not that hard.

Goyim don’t get to use incredibly important allegories of Jewish oppression at will. This shit needs to stop.

“Apologies, but plagiarism and also a barely veiled appropriation of the Shoah”

This makes me really uncomfortable. I mean… the whole Jews-as-rats imagery used in Maus was explicit reclamation of an intensely antisemitic trope and… It’s just not an okay thing for goyim to imitate.

Ever.

Plus when I saw the comic one of the panels was instantly recognizable as a pogrom and… it wasn’t okay.

Double extra agreed.

Oh shit I went through my queue and deleted my reblog. I actually assumed it was from Spiegelman or was affiliated with him in some way, my bad for not looking into it more. Thank you for the information!
