I have no problem with you supporting reylo, but I wish you’d been more clear about your stance. Many of your followers are antis because of how uncomfortable they feel about this excuse for a ship. They’re allowed to be angry, and conversely you’re allowed to express your opinions freely. Obviously your stance is complicated and that’s fine, but you have to understand why the anti community feels so let down. I’m not here to judge, but please be more understanding.

I have been as clear as humanly possible. Both pieces of content have been on my blog for over a year; the video even got some (positive) asks. When I realized people did not know about this content after I alluded to it, I fully discussed the issue and answered questions about my shipping preference multiple times precisely because I want people to make their own informed decisions about whether to keep following/interacting or not.

What I can’t stand is the insinuation that I’ve been lying to or misleading people. I have said from literally my first anti-reylo post (link) that I don’t judge people for what they ship, only for how they go about it. My issue is that reylos go about it horribly. That post has 462 notes, hardly something that slipped under the radar unnoticed. If people took my criticism of shippers’ bad behavior as saying that depiction is automatically endorsement and no one should ship it ever, nor would I ever create ship-related content ever–well, that speaks more to the simplistic nature of fandom rhetoric than anything I actually said. Once I realized there was a misunderstanding I worked to correct it and to inform everyone, as seen above.

It would have been the easiest thing in the world to quietly delete a post that was sitting there with 4 notes and to pretend that I do adhere to the party line that shipping equals morality. That would have been misleading. People are angry with me not because I’ve deceived them but because I have been honest.

i honestly feel like writing/exploring r3yl0 while recognizing it’s bad, that the fans are racist, that k7lo is a bad person and coded as being a nazi… like, i tried to write a fic where, post-episode nine, rey visits k7lo in prison and he develops (unrequited) feelings for her over the course of a few years because she’s interesting, the one /woman/ able to best him (because, of course, finn exists.) there’s a difference between romanticizing the content + accepting their dynamic is (cont.)

(cont from previous ask) + accepting their dynamic is pretty
horrible. kyl0 is a space nazi, he invaded r3y, etc. and while
acknowledging that, if you want to explore the dynamic offered in canon,
i think there’s nothing stopping you (plural.) it doesn’t mean you ship
r3yl0 as reylows ship it, which is romanticized, even fetishizied,
ignoring how r3y canonly hates kilo + all that. sorry, this got a bit
lengthy.

Yeah like… since when is depiction automatically endorsement? A major problem is that  that reylow fandom itself is a trash fire and ship-critical content, I’m pretty sure, is considered ship-bashing and unwelcome in the tag. So basically neither the most vocal antis nor reylows have it through their heads that depiction=/=endorsement, for all the latter might protest to the contrary.

Hey i just wanted to say that I’ve always super liked your blog and meta. I think fandom in general has a issue with nuance and is unable to understand that interpretations apart from their own can be valid. Which led me to kinda distance myself from most anti blogs because they seem more interested in shitting on problematic things and less on embracing anything positive. And insist that ships express way more than they actually about a person which just seems toxic

I think it’s a people thing. What was Mark Twain’s formula for mob intelligence, take the lowest IQ and divide by the number of people? Pretty much that. I’ve been feeling pretty uncomfortable with anti culture for a while and should have said something sooner instead of keeping quiet about mindsets I didn’t agree with, telling myself I was on the right side. I’ve tried to make it clear that I don’t think shipping by itself doesn’t determine morality, but I guess that got lost in the noise.

If and when this whole “are you or are you not a Reylo” thing blows over, do you plan to excuse it all as a “social experiment” or a call-out of your own? Or will you stick by your “Reylo but not quite” stance?

My stance has been consistent from the start, and everything I have said is true and certainly not intended as trolling or an experiment. I guess it did inadvertently end up being something of a social experiment on the nature of Tumblr and the internet, though.

Recent asks roundup

Since there’s no need to clutter up this blog with even more of the same I’ll put recent asks in this post under the cut. If you want to be answered in a separate post fucking work for it.

@igbaddiejohnboyega Demanding a yes/no answer while willfully ignoring the fact that the word has usage and associations that I am emphatically against? Ignoring the answers that have already been given? Just another day on Tumblr, I guess.

@lunaaltare Ah yes, because after years of fandom blogging I do not know basic canon facts. What part of my saying that I don’t endorse this pairing, and that my one attempt to envision something like an endgame for them was OOC and a failure in retrospect, don’t you understand? Right, you never read the posts I linked because you’d rather jump to conclusions based on distorted hearsay from your friends.

@strongwilltm I’m still failing to see how yelling at someone and calling them names for curating their own inbox is not bitchy behavior. I didn’t apologize for calling her a bitch lmaoooo basic reading comprehension fail. I corrected my own mistake that I made when I answered her, but she still acted like a bitch and a bully when she called me a coward for saying I will delete repeat asks. Get that distinction? It’s interesting that she gets to call me a coward and a bitch with impunity but when I call her a bitch back, it’s racism.

Not only does your reading comprehension fail but you fail basic timeline, too. The two pieces of content I produced are both over a year old, it’s not “ALL OF A SUDDEN.” I mentioned them in passing, someone asked about it, and in the interest of full disclosure I linked and discussed them. The two posts didn’t get 20 notes between them (though the video prompted a couple of positive asks) and would not be an issue to this day if I hadn’t been honest and open about them. What betrayal?

@imagine-mystrade See above, I misled no one and it’s the exact opposite of misleading that started this mess. I removed the two pieces of your Finnrey art from my blog, plus one text post of yours I reblogged. I’m keeping a couple of posts where you happen to be in the reblog chain, plus your earlier ask since it’s a matter of record about this whole shitstorm. Let me know if there’s any art I missed, since Tumblr search can be a mess.

@rebelspies I was up front, that’s exactly what you’re mad at me about 😂😂😂

Sending some good vibes for all the shit you’ve been going through.. Tbh I’ve been distancing myself from the “anti” community in general bc words have no meaning anymore and everything is so polarized?? As you said “reylo” isn’t just rey x kylo, it has come to be associated with the shipping community surrounding it. In a vacuum, I’d love it (villain/hero pairings are my jam BC they make u go tru all kinda hoops to make them work and i love that creativity) but given the current state, not ..

Thank you! I’m normally a villain fan and villain/hero shipper, too and I LOVE redemption stories, but this cult of woobification surrounding BS and the dismissal of Finn among a million other things have turned me right off reylow. On the shallowest basis I just don’t find Kylo/Rey attractive so I probably would not have been a big shipper in any case, but the state of the fandom is an unmitigated dumpster fire as you say. Also BS just is not the kind of villain who lends himself to redemption stories, at least not the sort I’d find palatable. Maybe Jailbird Ren could, after decades of hard work and facing terrible truths about himself, but that sure doesn’t fit in a 2.5-hour action movie.

I didn’t wanna get involved but like… I’m really not seeing the issue. I understood what you were saying from the get-go. I’m not even sure why we’re still talking about it. There are other things ppl can worry about. Like actual re//ylos. Weird how quickly things can escalate. Maybe I’m just used to walking away and ignoring ppl, but I applaud you for deciding to try to explain yourself regardless.

Hey, thanks for the support! Yeah I figured people deserved an explanation, but I think I’ve said about everything I can for now and it’s probably a good time to turn off anon again smh
