So, I was thinking about Baldo Ren recently (what is wrong with me??), and if I remember right, you don’t love the idea because the whole purpose of Kylo as a villain is that the entitled, “Good-looking”, white guy is the one most capable of this evil. Making him ugly in some way neuters that. Now, all of that said, it might get him back in his mask for episode 9 as he becomes increasingly ashamed of his Dark Side-fueled looks. Thoughts? Personally, I want to see him in the mask again.

I’m the opposite, I want him to continue to go unmasked. Abandoning the mask symbolized his choosing the Dark Side, not abandoning it, and also showed that he’s a different kind of villain than Vader–a visibly human one, not seemingly monstrous and mechanical as Vader was. Kylo was play-acting as Vader in the mask; his unmasked face shows him coming into his own. His is the unsettlingly normal and human face of evil and I think that should continue in IX.

I don’t think that having Rey say those exact words will be the best thing they can do, but instead do a slight change. Rey: “I thought there was good in you and maybe there was, but you choose to turn your back on it and all of your family. Maybe there’s still good in you but it’s far too late, you’ve done too much and gone too far.”

I think that’s a key point, that it DOESN’T MATTER whether Kylo has doubts or has his fee-fees hurt by committing murder or whatever. He gets such a massive amount of credit for his fucking feelings, it’s laughable. It doesn’t matter how bad or conflicted he may feel, his actions are heinous and he has committed crimes he can never fully atone for. It’s his choices that matter, not his regrets or feelings.

The best thing they can do in the next SW movie is to have Rey repeat Luke’s “I still sense good in you” speech to Kylo and it failing miserably. Unfortunately, I believe they will have Kylo turn back to the light, then immediately die, leaving every fangirl waxing lyrical about what could have been.

That would be so boringly repetitive though, especially after TLJ went out of its way to subvert RotJ so brutally. Luke had a compelling reason to believe in Vader and want him redeemed, while realizing that she, not Kylo, had to be the Jedi the galaxy needs was a central part of Rey’s character arc.

I guess it proves that we’re susceptible to the same pressures as we were a century ago, which is understandable, but also more troublingly that the same pressures are in place because capitalism sucks.

There are suspicious that cambridge analytica was involved in Brazil election and there was a lot of fake news that people believed… And everyone that I know that voted for him think that its all a joke or not even read his plan to rule the country… And many people didn’t vote so the majority didn’t want him, but hate the worker part to much to vote for them, and don’t understand the danger… idk

And so fascism takes hold, between data mining, fake news, people voting on a lark, and political apathy. It’s depressingly banal.

So it turns out one of Kavanaugh’s accusers has never even met him. That makes me sick. Dr. Ford was actually a victim of this man and some random lady from Kentucky thinks, “I hate Christians and one of them has been accused of something terrible, why don’t I pretend it happened to me too?” What an insult to Dr. Ford. What an insult to actual victims everywhere. I bet this happened with Trump and Cosby too. Victims deserve better than liars looking to mooch on their trauma for power.

False accusers hurt not only potentially innocent people but other victims as well, and deserve strong censure and potentially legal penalties.

I’ve seen before a belief that the Angel of Death is a personification of natural events, as Herodotus’s account of the deaths of the Assyrians described in the Ketuvim, attributes Sennacherib’s loss to a sudden overgrowth of mice. I don’t know if I believe as such, but there is an idea that the horrible things that happen in the Tanakh attributed to God would have happened anyways. (Moth)

I have a different take. I interpret God in the stories, for the most part, as karma–a kind of moral physics of the universe. I don’t think God made a choice to kill the firstborn of Egypt, I think that was metaphor for the Egyptians’ crimes coming back to them. If you enslave people and kill their children, it will come back in the blood of your own children. it doesn’t matter if you did it yourself; you live in a house built on the blood and bones of slaves, and can’t complain if it collapses on you.
