rian doesn’t know people tan bc he doesn’t go outside
I mean look at him, does he look like he goes outside?
It’s sad that Revelation (singular in the title), which has a long history of differing interpretations, most of which view it as historical commentary or symbolic, has become a Trojan horse for market-standard antisemitic (and anti-Arab, which is often ignored) views. Not surprising, given the history of post-Constantine Christianity, but sad. (Moth)
Antisemitism will always find a way, and something as amorphous as Revelation serves as an excellent hook for any preconception the reader holds.
I don’t get how Rey’s skin change is brownface. I get why it’s absolutely disgusting, but her tan didn’t make her look non-white, so it’s not brownwashing unless I’m missing something?
I mean they did decide that a white girl with a careful, aesthetically pleasing tan and a few cute freckles–but not, like, scarred and splotched from the sun–is better than a brown or Black woman. And even the tan and freckles had to go at the first opportunity because being pale is way more important than being consistent! Maybe there’s a better term than brownface, but it’s really racist at any rate.
All I can say is that KK and RJ can kiss my ass with their racis ass.
Would you really want to touch asses with KK and RJ
I hate TLJ and Rian but Lucasfilm making fake tan in Daisy Ridley already was the problem to me, not the tan disappearing. Also someone so pale like Daisy living in a desert for 15 years could damage her skin not making tan like that, they tried to look “realistic” so they should just cast a brown/black woman. I know Kathleen Kennedy obsession for white british brunettes isn’t new but still upset me when I imagine how great could be to brown and black girls seeing someone like them playing Rey
Both the casting and the tan disappearing are problems to me. And yeah, I hate how KK gives lip service to the idea that SW should look like the world but the main always has to be white.
I mean, sure, but I’d be inclined to blame JJ for putting the makeup on her in the first place. If you’ve already screwed the pooch by casting someone purely white, don’t try to have it both ways.
I blame everyone involved–KK for her insistence on white British brunettes, JJ for casting her, and RJ for not bothering to even keep the character’s look consistent.
Wait, it became brownface because Rian didn’t have Rey with brown makeup?
It clearly wasn’t a consistent character trait when the “tan” magically disappeared within moments.
rey’s tan went from “girl lived on desert planet for years so of course she’s not fair skinned” to simple brownface because of tlj. they could have convinced me of the need to make daisy tanned because of her life if they’d kept it, but they wanted “pure white woman” in tlj so away rey’s tan went and now it’s just another case of brownface by disney. not blaming daisy btw because i know people will assume i am, i’m blaming lf and rian
Here’s Rey at the end of TFA:

And here she is at the start of TLJ, what is supposed to be mere moments later.

An instant-whitening miracle! I didn’t know the Force could do that lmao.
Something just occurred to me– how did Enfys see through her thin helmet slit? I guess she must have digital scanners or something inside, so more to the point, how did Erin Kellyman see in that helmet?
Maybe she was like Theo Rossi who played Shades in S1 of Luke Cage, who was bumping into walls because his sunglasses were too dark for the indoors 😂
