Leia said ‘human males’ so no aliens need apply. I’m still pissed that Claudia forced straightness on her in this shoehorned fashion, the whole thing was so damned forced. I’m wondering if that was Claudia herself or LF that demanded she make sure Leia could never be anything but canon straight. But then again, it the same book that has Leia quoting Nazi slogans so I’m not at all surprised at anything Claudia Gray or LF do at this point. Heck they’ve compared Leia to a Nazi in the comics too.

I am sorry for my ignorance but what exactly is the difference between being Bi & Pansexual, especially in a sci-fi setting such as Doctor Who or Star Trek? Why did Lando being made Pan in Solo meant that he could date female droids? Couldn’t he do that as a straight guy anyways? In a sci-do setting, does bi mean that the character likes whatever gender of their own species, and pan means that they like other members of other species/design?

Asdjlk I can barely articulate the difference between bi and pan in our OWN world, much less a galaxy far far away. But yes, I deeply dislike pansexuality being associated with xenophilia/cross-species attraction, especially when it’s like “straight but fucks aliens/droids/sentient shades of blue.” Isn’t it interesting that LF was more comfortable with Lando being in a relationship with a non-human being than with him being with a guy?

I think Leia in Princess of Alderaan said she was only attracted to humanoid males, which presumably includes humanoid aliens and is probably the SW version of being straight. Maybe they have other terms for people who are attracted to non-humanoids, though the vast majority of sentient beings are humanoid from what I can see.

Bill Potts anon here. Yeah that must be why. She’s not in future seasons as she technically died. She came back as a Cyberman and was “saved” of her state from her gf. The whole finale is weird even in terms of DW usual content. Anyway, the Doctor is now a white woman and her companions are a desi woman, a black man (both late 20s) and a 50+ white man. I’ll see what happens. But the fandom is usually more racist than the writing itself. (The whole Martha Jones hate was ughhhh).

Fandom’s racism has really ramped up–or rather, become more visible–ever since some big shows got a tiny bit more diverse and progressive.

“Systemic racism is dead!” Actually, our racist society created a system that would stick around long after people began tolerating minorities. People today might not be racist (there’s a lot of Finn haters out there though) but the system still needs work. Racism is undead. It’s a zombie.

Systems are built and run by people, though, and I think the dichotomy between individual and systemic racism is a little simplistic. For that matter, can there be a non-racist person in a racist system? If anything the divide is between people who are willing to confront racism, both systemic and individual, and those who loudly deny the existence of racism while it goes on unchecked. It’s not a divide between good people who have zero racist biases and bad people who run around wearing hoods and shouting racist slurs. I’d say racism is very much alive, nowhere as much as in the people who loudly proclaim its death.

I’m cautiously excited, and always up for more Mandalorian content! But does the titular Mandalorian have actual ties to Jango and Boba, or are they simply being namedropped to prop up a white protagonist, I wonder? At least this teaser text seems to affirm that Jango and Boba are, in fact, Mandalorians?

Did you see DHF’s thread on the reylows bashing John and Finn, saying John is untalented, fat, expressing happiness that he’s not getting roles etc. I know you’re a nonblack person who gets it but shit like that is why black Finn fans are ✌🏾 to this fandom. I’m demoralized and hurt. They love shitting on a man who has done nothing to them except playa character who gets close to their precious white girl.

Oh my God, it’s so horrible. I don’t even want to link it because it’s so sickening, though @diversehighfantasy as always has incredible fortitude in wading into these cesspools to get the evidence. I can’t possibly understand in full how hurtful and toxic this shit is to Black fans, but if I feel sick I can only try to extrapolate how it is for you. I’m very sorry fandom is such a terrible environment and I wish things were different.
