Captain…Commander…Trooper. All titles Rex had held in his lifetime.
But never father.
After the battle of Endor, after fighting alongside Solo, Organa, Skywalker, Calrissian, Bey, and Dameron, and watching them all have families, Rex was starting to think that Cut Lawquane was right. Maybe Rex wanted more than just battle.
timd would pass, and Rez would find a good woman, an old friend of Bey’s. She was kind, smart, a soldier like him. Well, not a Clone of a legendary bounty hunter, but damn was she good with a blaster. Eventually the two of them settled down and had twins, a boy and girl.
Everyone from the Damerons to even Ahsoka gave their congratulations. Ahsoka even mentioned that his children could be force sensitive. Imagine that? Clone Trooper Commander Rex, father of Jedi! Kenobi and Skywalker must have been grinning like idiots from the other side.
Unfortunately Rex knew he wouldn’t be able to watch his children grow up due to his accelerated aging. It was something he made peace with long ago and when the time came, Commander Rex had no regrets. He was remembered a hero, and mourned by many.
Kes and Shara offered Rex’s wife to stay with them for awhile to keep her and the kids company, which she accepted of course. Though Shara never came home after picking up the Trooper’s family.
Shara Bey’s ship had been attacked in the Outer Rim while she was on her way back to Yavin 4. Many thought it was raiders, but in reality it had been the First Order.
The twins had been the only survivors of the attack. Both were indoctrinated into the Stormtrooper program, but both were separated and their relation to never be revealed to the children as to avoid conflicting loyalties.
The girl would grow up to eventually gain the rank of Captain at the brink of the Cold War Between the First Order and New Republic. As Captain she was able to name herself. She chose the name Caro.
The boy on the other hand would grow up to become one of the best Stormtroopers in the entire First Order…and their greatest enemy. The boy deflected and joined the Resistance, and he took on the name Finn.
Finn had accepted long ago that he’d never find him family, but after the infiltration of the Supremacy, BB-8 shows Finn his military file from his Stormtrooper days. He had a sister and she was alive!
But he had no idea how he’d find her.
Since joining the Resistance, Finn had dealt with the silent confliction of fighting Stormtrooper. As a soldier, he never hesitated in battles with troopers, because it was them or him, but it all was catching up to him…it was eating away at him. Finn wanted to liberate them, give them the same option he was given.
So against mass protest from Rose, Poe, and especially a worried sick Rey, Finn decided he would go undercover once more in the First Order and not only find and convince his sister to rebel, but he would start a damn uprising. The Stormtroopers would not be the faceless casualties of this war.
He’d save his sister Captain Caro, and all the Stormtroopers, or die trying. Isn’t that what a real good Trooper does? They never leave a soldier behind. At least, that’s what the old holotapes about Clone Trooper Rex said. Finn always admired him and the other clones. Something about them felt… familiar.
Based off of @lj-writes meta “The Force Sensitive Five”, which you can click the link for the amazing meta goodness, the Force Five is a theory that Finn, Poe, Rose, and Caro, providing she turns out to be force sensitive, will go on to become pupils of Rey. Though more in a student teacher kind of way due to Rey being a learner herself. So it’s kind of like Kotor 2 when Exile trained all of their force sensitive companions as Jedi.
Instead of just reiterating what the above meta talks about, I’ll be listing what role I believe the five will serve in the new Jedi Order.
Some of these listingings are from the Legends canon, but considering force projection was brought back into canon, these count as fair game till proven otherwise.
There are 3 branches of Jedi in the Jedi teachings.
Jedi Guardian:
Knights preferring to take a physically active stance against the dark side of the Force and all other threats to the Republic were known to pursue the title of Guardian. Brandishing their lightsabers proudly, Guardians focused much of their training on perfecting their sparring and athletic skills, as well as the art of unarmed combat. The Force skills studied by the Guardians were typically those used for quickly disabling an opponent and aiding in agility and stamina.
Jedi Counselor:
Focusing not on physical force but on mastery of the Force and the sharpening of mental skills, the Jedi Knights who became Consulars worked closely with the Republic Diplomatic Corps and medical facilities. Overseen by the Council of Reconciliation, Consulars worked as healers, prophets, and researchers, wielding a lightsaber only for self defense.
Jedi Sentinal:
Knights that sought a balance between the intensive combat training of the Jedi Guardians and the wider philosophical views and teaching responsibilities of the Jedi Consulars. These Jedi ferreted out deceit and injustice, bringing it to light. They were generally employed in scouting missions and were skilled in security, computers, or stealth techniques, and also had diplomatic skills.
Rey
Branch: Jedi Guardian
Specialized path: Jedi Peacekeeper
The Jedi Peacekeepers were specialists in the art of policing the galaxy and ensuring that laws are enforced along the Outer Rim. Those Jedi wishing to pursue a peacekeeping role were stationed within planetary or sectoral government’s security agencies where they worked as the area’s special police.
Lightsaber: Double bladded Purple Lightsaber
Finn
Branch: Jedi Sentinal
Specialized path: Jedi Investigator
Jedi specially appointed by the High Council to uncover hidden and obscure threats to the galaxy such as powerful criminal syndicates, corruption and conspiracy against the Republic and other shady menaces. The Jedi investigator would often work alone and undercover to infiltrate suspicious organizations or would be busy investigating some act of crime.
Lightsaber: Dual wielding Orange Lightsabers
Poe Dameron
Branch: Jedi Guardian
Specialized path: Jedi Ace
The Jedi Aces were highly adept pilots and dogfighters. Piloting a variety of different starfighter models over the Order’s history, those specializing as Aces used their battle awareness to increase their firing accuracy and precision far beyond what a non-Force-sensitive pilot could achieve.
Lightsaber: Guard shoto Yellow Lightsaber
Rose Tico
Branch: Jedi Sentinal
Specialized Path: Jedi Artisan
Trying to understand creativity as a central aspect of the will of the Force, the craft pursued by Jedi artisans typically manifested in the construction of lightsabers and holocrons. Having an intrinsic skill with tools and machines, artisans joined their connection to the Force with their mechanical skill to guide their use of tools to create truly artistic and unique objects.
Lightsaber: Single Hilt Teal Lightsaber
Caro
Branch: Jedi Counselor
Specialized Path: Jedi Seer
Highly attuned to the Unifying Force, the Seers of the Jedi Order were gifted with pre- and postcognition, the Force granting them glimpses of things to come and things which have already transpired. Jedi Prophets were a rarity amongst the Seers, and were able to divine such things as the future of the galaxy.
Lightsaber: Curved-hilt Green lightsaber
I’d figure these five could be the building blocks of the New Jedi Order, though I think some elder Force users like Ahsoka, Ezra, and Maz would join due to have more extensive knowledge of the force and its history.
If it’s true that the Force belongs to everyone, then why not have the other main heroes in addition to Rey–Finn, Poe, Rose, and “Caro”–Force-sensitive as well? They can be Rey’s first pupils (though it’s more a mutual teaching/study group situation) and, going off the books Rey got from the Jedi Temple, develop their own theory and practice of the Force. Here’s how I envision their respective specialties and powers.
Rey
Summary: The generalist Jedi and melee combat specialist
Description: Rey has the most obvious and familiar, seemingly supernatural Jedi powers. She has impressive Force telekinesis, Force telepathy, has had Force visions and dreams, and the mind trick. She is a force, or should we say Force, in melee combat. She is the tank of the party and all-purpose Force powerhouse, not to mention a potent symbol to revive hope when the Jedi seemed all lost or fallen.
Rey still has limitations, however. While her abilities are very strong, they are generally obvious and one-off in nature. She can use the Force mind trick to get a Stormtrooper to take her shackles off her, but trying to use the mind trick in negotiation, for instance, would be noticeable and end up breeding distrust. Similarly, she can be a whirlwind of destruction in combat but can’t turn the tide of a large-scale battle on her own. She needs a team, and having trusted friends can in turn help her resist the lure of the Dark Side, which can be strong for a Force user as powerful as she is.
Finn
Summary: Empath, death sense, Battle Meditation
Description: A Force user on par with Rey, Finn has the ability to sense life and, less pleasantly, the ending of life. We saw him go into a panic attack at Slip’s death, seemingly sensing him die. We saw this ability again on a larger scale with the destruction of the Hosnia system, when he sensed the mass deaths much like Obi-Wan did. Highly trained and talented at both long-distance and melee combat, he has probably been unconsciously powering his military prowess with the Force all his life. He knows how to read a situation and people instantly and use this knowledge to great effect. Particularly skilled in small unit combat, he is the undisputed tactician of their group.
His tactical genius and empath abilities intersect for devastating effect in the form of Battle Meditation. He senses the battlefield and the combatants and, with a mental nudge here and a tug there aided by his own extensive strategic training, shapes the battle like a sculpture or a Rubix cube. The Resistance/Rebellion pulls off victories out of all proportion with their resources this way, especially with Finn’s extensive knowledge of the enemy. His strong empathy can be a liability as well as an asset, however, and sensing the deaths of so many people could result in trauma and burnout. He needs emotional support from a caring network of people, and fortunately he is no longer alone.
Poe Dameron
Summary: Force-aided instinct and reflex, micro-visions, inspiration
Description: A young leader of the Rebellion and Leia’s chosen successor, Poe has been using the Force unconsciously for his piloting much like Anakin and Luke Skywalker did. Sensing events in the split second before they happened gave him uncanny reflexes and saved his life in many a tight spot. Further developing these abilities gave him an edge not only in his reflexes but in planning and leadership as well. Sensing danger in advance helped him avoid costly mistakes and, conversely, being able to sense payoffs for risks enabled him to take risks in a calculating, advantageous way.
As Leia pointed out, though, he has to be more than the pilot or kickass spy he’s used to being; he also has to be a leader. With his deep roots from his parents in antifascist resistance, you might say rebellion is in his blood. He inspires others with this conviction, and being in the same room with him or even watching a holo of him speak can electrify audiences despite–or perhaps because of–his simple, down-to-earth style. It is one of the many qualities that his enemy General Hux, known for his bombastic rhetoric, scorns about him.
Description: Loving droid owners like Poe have always known that there was more to their companions than gears and electricity, and Rose’s awakening Force power confirms this. She can sense and communicate through the Force with droids and computers, including ships that are equipped with droid brains. The Force is the connection between living beings, after all, and sentient machines are just as alive as organics if in a different sense. Rose’s exploration into this side of the Force endlessly fascinates Rey and Chewbacca, both enthusiastic mechanics, and Rose’s insights into the needs of the cranky old droid brains that run the Millennium Falcon have done much to place her in its good graces.
Rose also has the Force ability of shatterpoint, rare and once thought lost. She can sense pivotal points where a single outcome may change the course of events. In this she takes after legendary Force master Mace Windu, and some have speculated that she may have family ties to Ghôsh Windu, Master Windu’s clan which nearly died out with him. When Rose risked her own life to save Finn’s on Crait she sensed a shatterpoint, convinced he had to survive that moment no matter what. It was more important than her life or the lives of the entire remaining Resistance. Subsequent events proved her right, and fortunately the grim payoff did not come to pass thanks to the intervention of Luke Skywalker.
On the flip side of Finn who is a strong empath, Rose is strong in broadcasting her emotions, particularly negative emotions such as fear and pain. Some of her occasionally unhealthy interactions with Finn may have resulted from their respective abilities going in a feedback spiral. Now that she is aware of the effect she has on others, Rose works hard to modulate her emotions and is particularly careful around Finn. Her friendship with mechanical sentients, who are less moody than organics, helps in this regard and she can frequently be found meditating in hangars and repair rooms while curious droids look on.
Caro*
Summary: Force echoes, life powers, shadow friends
Description: Caro thrives on the balance of all things, passion and peace, anger and compassion, life and death. Rey admires how she not only understands but lives the concepts that Rey herself has only begun to grasp. Rey, Finn, and the others to different degrees can talk to the spirits of powerful Jedi masters who live on in the Force, like Luke Skywalker, but Caro goes farther. She is not only more effective at communing with these spirits, she also hears echoes in the Force itself from every being who has ever been in the Force. Not all at once, of course, which would overwhelm any mortal, but she can sense snatches that she seeks or that simply come to her. She can attempt to get more information through concentration and meditation, and this was how she found Finn: Through the memories of people living and dead who had crossed his path. Slip remembered him kindly, Caro told Finn, though he still thought him an awful showoff. Due to her powers she frequently seems to know people before she meets them, which some find unsettling.
As befitting a Jedi who is a master of the Balance, Caro has deep connection to life as well as death. She is a healer of great skill like Barriss Offee before her, and has saved many lives. An expert at integrating medical technology with her powers, she has worked with Rose to pool their strengths for better medical care in the Resistance. Though Caro is more accepting of death as a part of the Force than Barriss was and has proven more resilient to the trauma of losing patients, she can be saddened by the mounting losses. Finn and the others take care to draw her gently from her solitude where the events of her life and her unique powers sometimes lead her to take solace. She is particularly loved by defected Stormtroopers who have never experienced such caring, and quite a few are open about being willing to fight and die for her more than the Resistance. She has found a loving partner in one of them and their companionship brings her much joy.
Through great concentration and focus Caro can cause these “echoes” in the Force to take temporary physical form. They can help with set tasks and even go into battle with her, although the effort can be taxing for her and their actions can be unpredictable. Such is the nature of the Force, and she accepts that. It is key to the peace and balance she keeps with the Force.
* Caro’s powers are purely speculative at this point, of course. We don’t even know her name, to say nothing of her abilities or relationships with the other characters. But it’s fun to imagine and there was no way I was going to leave her out of this post, okay?
Before JJ announces Naomi Ackie is playing a CG character, or a minor role, or dying as motivation, here’s a possible character design for Caro. Caro Freemaker! (Or Calrissian-Skywalker)
In JJ’s version, she could be Luke’s apprentice returning from a long mission in the Unknown Regions. But in the lj-writes-verse, Caro is Ahsoka Tano’s latest graduated apprentice and commander of the Jedi field forces. She wields twin shortsword lightsabers and is Kylo Ren’s greatest foe. The two fight each other to a standstill early in the third movie, which is good enough for her, as she buys time for the Republic Army to arrive to back her up. Slightly later, she’s the one who teaches Finn and Rey how to fight with lightsabers. In the film’s climax, she takes down Phasma. Those are just some ideas, of course. (Moth)
I don’t want Naomi Ackie to be Lando’s daughter. I’d Naomi Ackie play Finn’s twin sister, a theory I love from @jewishcomeradebot and have Lando have multiple children! They can be a Twi’lek/human hybrid that looks like Twi’leks and others humans. There’s no aliens in this sequel trilogy and TLJ killed off the last iconic one.
There’s nothing wrong with Finn having a badass force sensitive sister AND Lando have an entire military squad of badass daughters and sons.
I’m not about this TLJ exclusion shit where only one person can have a family and be relevant.
Give Finn a family
Give Lando a family
Heck, Keri Russell can play Lando’s half-Twi’lek daughter in body paint and cgi. I’d like to see multiple children too and for them to all look a little different–no way they all look like humans with Technicolor hair.
“If you live long enough, you see the same eyes in different people. I have seen yours once before six years ago, when I helped a young woman flee the destruction of the Jedi Temple.”
More Force sensitive twins Caro and Finn. This time with Maz helping Finn track down his sister who’s been living in hiding since Kylo destroyed the Jedi Temple.
Tumblr is glitchy and won’t let me reblog that post about Naomi Ackie’s possible role from you
I love the idea of Naomi/Caro being both Finn’s sister and a Jedi. There’s apparently a rumor going around about Caro and Rey having a scene where they fight side by side, so there’s something to commend the idea of Jedi!Caro.
All of that I gave me an idea.
JJ has a tendency to both uses pieces of old canon, but pull it all apart and put it back together again in a new way. And occasionally poke fun of it too. And people have been talking about how EpIX if left in JJ’s hand would be a rerun of RotJ, though TFA is less like ANH or the OT than most people try to pretend it is.
But what if he does borrow something from RotJ? What if he borrows the twin reveal and the twins being raised separately and in vastly different circumstances due to tragic events. In the OT it was because Anakin went to the dark side, in the ST it would be because the First Order stole one twin, but the parents managed to protect the second child from them?
And John and Naomi is more or less the same age. I’m saying more or less because we don’t have an exact birth date for Naomi. Wikipedia only gives her birth year as ca 1992. John was born in 1992.
What if Finn’s and “Caro’s” (I’m going with the assumption that Naomi is playing Caro) parents knew about their children’s Force potential and they knew about Luke’s school but they didn’t send their children off because they wanted to wait until they were older, possibly give them their own choice in the matter.
Only tragedy and the First Order strikes and Finn is taken. Perhaps fearing that the First Order will come back they send “Caro” off to Luke’s school where she stays until Kylo turns and destroys everything. Only Caro manages to escape, thinking Master Skywalker is dead and that everything is lost.
She’s spend the time ever since hiding and training herself. Maybe she’s now begun to build her own Resistance against the First Order and against the Knights of Ren and that’s how the two of them – Finn and Caro – come across each other.
Or maybe Maz guides them both.
I know a lot have been made of Maz’s line “if you live long enough you see the same eyes in different people”. What if what she was talking about was Finn’s twin sister?
It would parallel Luke and Leia in Caro/Luke being raised to be a Jedi, while the other Finn/Leia is raised to leadership without any knowledge of the Force.
I can see this happening. As Lucas said, “It’s like poetry… it rhymes,” right?
Also, the description of the rumored “Caro” casting call is suggestive to me.
Casting director Nina Gold is on the hunt for an
“ethnic female”, with a strong preference for an African-American, 18-26
years old, to portray a character by the name of Caro. Caro is
described as having a “captivating naturalness and ease to her manner.”
Caro is a “leader and problem solver, smart with a great sense of humor
and a strong will. All this comes to her effortlessly.”
First, the age range. From the start 18-26 seemed odd because 18 and 26 represent very different levels of maturity and professional achievement. Of course they could always have been intending to find someone at the higher range and the lower range could have been a fake-out, but if we take this at face value the age range would make sense if they’re looking for a sister for someone in their early 20′s, that is searching for a plausible sibling age range.
Second, the description. Maybe it’s the theory hat talking but she really sounds like someone who could be Finn’s sister, in fact she sounds like someone Finn could be if he weren’t saddled with a lifetime of issues from brainwashing and abuse.
This is my favorite theory for Naomi’s character so far!
Naomi Ackie is Lando’s daughter and she is joining the fight against the First Order. I would actually really enjoy this theory because we have not yet had a stable parent and child relationship yet in Star Wars movies. Plus it’d be sweet to know that Lando is the only person in all the Star Wars movies to actually have a healthy family life.
Naomi Ackie is a survivor of Luke’s Jedi temple that became one of the knights of Ren. I like this theory because we have never had a badass female dark side user in the movies before. And she’s a black Woman? Damn, if she uses Benny Boy as her boy toy? With Finnrey and this, I could survive off all the racist’s tears for years.
Naomi Ackie is playing Finn’s sister that was indoctrinated into the Stormtrooper program as a child like Finn. I doubt the FO would take one kid if they could take more and it is confirmed that the Stormtroopers are women as well. This is probably my favorite theory, just because it would help Finn find part of his family, give him more of an incentive to start a stormtrooper Rebellion, and fit with the themes of family members trying to save each other.
Naomi Ackie is playing Karé Kun. This one is a very high probability because Naomi Ackie looks a lot like Karé anyway. Plus with black squadron all but confirmed to be making their return it would make sense.
What I don’t want
I don’t want Naomi Ackie covered in stupid body pait or CGI like Lupita Nyong’o was, or used as canon fodder like Paige Tico in TLJ or Val in Solo.
Nothing makes me more frustrated to see actors of color used in cast announcements to make a movie look more diverse, only for them to bury them in ways they look unrecognizable or kill them off instantly.
He didn’t confirm it, because he’s not allowed to, but he apparently hinted heavily as SDCC that he will be appearing. Between that and the apparently open ending to Black Squadron’s fate in the Poe comic I’m a bit more hopeful. I’m hoping that means Jess will be back too and we’ll get to actually see Karé
@jewishcomeradebot Hmm, could “Caro” from the casting call be Karé? Probably too young, right?
