While I was in a ST: Disco mindset, I took some time to finish this sketch of Michael Burnham. Nothing super exciting, just a redraw of an episode still but I finally got to play with the gold pens I ordered from @jetpens a gazillion months ago and the ZIG Wink of Stella glitter gold pen is probably the best thing to have ever happened to me ✨✨✨

OMG the women’s boots have no heels!!!! You could actually run in those things!

Diverse cast AND sensible footwear! A girl could hardly ask for more…

that gold stripe on the thigh looks like a zipper. is that… are those… pockets?

This is such a tiny detail but it makes me so damn happy but look at the shoes. The women and men’s shoes are the same!  There are no heels!  Even Voyager and DS9 gave the women shoes with a heel.  Even Wonder Woman, movie of my heartface, gave Diana fucking wedges which makes no goddamn sense.  But not here!  The shoes are the same!  No heel in in sight!  I fucking love this show already.

Here’s why it’s a big deal when female uniforms in Star Trek have the same principles applied as male ones.

Basically, the franchise’s record in that regard is mixed at best and the reboot films were a pretty big step backwards, even when ignoring the double standard in how female uniforms were cut.

I just got really emotional about this.

Michael Burnham

Im so grateful for Sonequa Martin Green for giving us Michael Burnham, I’m just so happy for it. To be honest, i feel like when everyone learned that there was going to a black female lead on Star Trek, there wasnt a big reception for it, like there was for the new doctor on Doctor Who. Especially when that subject was trending for a couple days here on Tumblr. If y’all happy and grateful for Michael Burnham, reblog/like.

God, I am so grateful for Michael Burnham. I haven’t loved a Trek character this much since Ben Sisko. She’s smart and strong, but that doesn’t mean she has to sacrifice her humanity for those attributes.

I love her natural hair. I love the fact that she gets to have a love interest (and a very cute one to boot!)

I love her multiplicity. I love her interactions with the other members of the crew. I love that she grows as a character throughout the course of the season. I LOVE the fact that this show stars a Black woman and everything is filtered through the eyes of a Black woman. I love how she’s caring but doesn’t need to sacrifice her own ideas or values for others. I love that we get to see a Black woman be a science specialist, and actually look at and TALK about science. I love that her knowledge and skill set is valued. I love that Ash treats her with respect and warmth (and that she does the same for him.)

Michael Burnham is amazing and I’m so grateful she’s now a part of the Trek canon!
