Why are the rylos trying to call antis ableist for criticizing Kylo, just because they headcanon him as having BPD? I’ve seen more and more posts like this on my dash and it’s just pissing me off so much. Just a warning, this is more of a spur-of-the-moment rant than any coherent analysis of Kylo’s character, but I just needed to vent.

First off, it’s a headcanon, not a definite fact. Headcanons are subjective in the best of times. Even though I agree that Kylo displays many BPD symptoms (a la Anakin in the prequels), this has never been confirmed either by supplementary material or Lucasfilm executives. Because of that simple fact, other fans have the right to headcanon Kylo’s mental health in any damn way they please. So do you! You are perfectly free to headcanon Kylo as BPD, but that doesn’t mean you can go around forcing your headcanon onto others.

Second, and more importantly, having a mental illness is no excuse for committing atrocities such as murder, genocide, patricide, terrorism, and mental violation. I stated when I reblogged the original post that there is a difference between an explanation and a justification, and I’ll reaffirm that. If Kylo was confirmed as having BPD, nothing is changed about his morality. The way he acts would be better explained, sure, but certainly not justified.

There’s a difference and people need to get that into their heads. Mental illness does not physically make you do anything, and I say this as some who has faced these issues multiple times. It influences you heavily and dangerously, but any physical reaction is a response that you yourself have decided to act on. Mental illnesses are terrible misfortunes that mess up your perception of life in general, and although they may influence you heavily, you are still responsible for carrying out these awful actions. 

Hell, I have bipolar disorder. If I commit a murder and blame a manic episode for “making me do it,” I still deserve to be prosecuted. What makes Kylo any different?

The real-person shipping or shipping-in-all-but-name shippers do with Daisy and Adam has to be one of the worst thing to come out of even that section of the fandom. It creeps me out the way some of them spread rumors about Adam’s marriage or his wife, get salty about John and Daisy spending time together, and even photoshop Adam over John in his pictures with Daisy.

“Villain fans” who woobiefy villains ruined MCU Loki for me, who was at one point my favorite MCU character.

I love that pos, too, and I’m glad I didn’t get too far into MCU fandom. From what litle I’ve seen of the Loki tag, I’m pretty sure “his” fans (I don’t consider their brainwashed little woobie the actual Loki) would have ruined him for me as well. Like, the way his eyelashes fluttered in that one scene proves he was brainwashed or something. They reach as hard as Kyle stans, and I really hate the way genocidal white characters bring the woobifiers swarming out of the woodwork.

Stay clear from the Walking Dead and Game of Thrones fandoms while you’re at it…

Something is happening on John Boyega’s twitter and I don’t understand. He said quite correctly that the actors aren’t in control and harassing them does nothing. This has now spun off into people calling for a boycott of episode because he is being “rude to fans.” I genuinely don’t understand what’s going on. Is this fandom so toxic and racist that white people are saying it is attacking them that John calls out the sort of people who harassed Kelly Marie Tran?

I think what was really shocking to the people giving him a hard time about the writing and how they’re being wrongly accused of hating Kelly when it’s Rose (and Finn) they hate, was that he responded with “We don’t care.” > https://twitter.com/JohnBoyega/status/1006485065721884672 John not caring that a guy actively going at him on Twitter hates his character takes away any power over him they think they had. That makes them more angry, but honestly, anyone who would boycott EpIX over John not being nice to fans who aren’t nice to him were going to boycott anyway because it’s “SJW.”

I love how Greek philosophers literally had ship wars (the way we have them now) as to whether or not Patroclus and Achilles were lovers or not. With Plato saying they were even shipped by the gods and Aeschylus going as far as saying Achilles was the bottom, and then other people arguing that he was a top, or that it was totally ‘no homo’, and I think it might be my favourite thing, like this was a legit argument writers had.

Am I the only one who hates r*ylo but feels ambivalent to kyl*x? Like they’re both bad ships but the latter don’t manipulate the female lead into the therapy dog a man 10 years older than her. The shippers have some self awareness knowing these are both bad men and don’t deserve redemption, and it’s not everywhere. It’s still very clearly a bad ship but like. I’m okay with it in that I’ll reblog other (non ship, non fo) stuff from it’s shippers.

Reylo is objectively bad for thousands of reasons, misogyny being a big one. It’s a crack ship that went too far and now people delude themselves into believing it will be canon.

Kylux is a cracky gay ship, and no one expects it to be more than a cracky gay ship.

My reaction has always been that they’re both so awful they deserve each other. With Kyle being Hug’s superior now it’s gained all sorts of gross undertones, but at least the shippers stay in their lane and don’t rub their disgusting crap all over the universe, nor do they swarm creators needily seeking “proof.”

For me it’s six of one, half a dozen of the other. You just exchange misogyny (reylo) for homophobic fetishization (kylux). And those who don’t think there’s a copious amount of

homophobic fetishization in kylux should go look at the content.

Their popularity is for the exact same reason, racism. The willful ignorance or just straight up apologia for the First Order is exactly the same too. Shippers are on a whole just as obnoxious and toxic to anyone who dares not like their ship. And frankly I’m fed up with Kylux shippers in the Finnpoe tag as well, they’ve even taken to invading Finnrey because “look how inclusive and woke we are by including an interracial pairing in one paragraph, of course we can put it in the main pairing tag”.

After TLJ a lot of them even taken to shipping Poe with Hux and writing fics where Poe by definition dumps Finn for the fascist, yet still puts it in the Finnpoe tag.

So nah, they’re not really any different. The fact that most Kylux shippers are aware that their pairing isn’t going to be canon is hardly enough to consider them better in my opinion.
