padmestrawberrie:

how finn got his name:

Anakin cried big ghostly tears when Luke named his newborn son after him. He didn’t deserve it–his legacy was one of pain and betrayal, he would never want that for his kin. Leia did not spare her biological father a thought (although naming her son ‘Ben’ seemed like an equally dubious choice to him) which Anakin understood and did not mind at all. He’d expected the same for Luke.

But Luke–

His stubborn son had looked upon his newborn, eyes determined yet full of love and said proudly, “Anakin. He’ll be Anakin.”

Anakin, the first one, didn’t know what to think. He cried, of course–just the thought that his innocent little grandson would carry his name brought him to his knees. But … why?

Luke peppered kisses all over his baby’s face. Little Anakin squeezed his eyes open, just a little, and Anakin–ghost Anakin, ghost of the past Anakin–held out his hand to shield the babe’s eyes from the stinging sun rays, forgetting that it was useless. “My baby,” muttered Luke. “My Anakin. At last, I-I am content. I belong. I belong with you, my son.”

And it clicked. Little Anakin’s eyes opened fully, and they were big and brown and guileless (just like his wife, like his Padmé), and the ghost of the past remembered that ‘Anakin’ meant ‘home’ in his native tongue, and looking at the scene before him, he finally understood what the saying “home is where the heart is” meant.

Anakin Skywalker II was home.

honestly why do some of y’all dislike finn skywalker.. if you’ve believed r/eysky for 2 years then finnsky may not be your favorite theory, which is absolutely fine, but there’s no reason for you to you know, dislike it because it’ll be a great thing if it really happens. if you think r/eysky will inspire a lot of women, you have to admit that finnsky will mean so much to black people too. and remember that no black person has ever played a skywalker while there are already three white brunette women in skywalkers. many finnskys are black also!

if you agree that finn being force sensitive is going to be awesome bc black characters who have such special ability are rare to see in media and will inspire many black kids who watch star wars (that’s also why many black people decided to watch tfa.. for jedi finn! which was a bait lmao), then what’s stopping you from liking finn, the black lead of the sequel trilogy, being legendary luke fucking skywalker’s son and getting the most important last name in the star wars universe? force sensitive finn skywalker will inspire black kids even more than finn just being force sensitive. if you don’t want to see that happens because you want a white person to be a skywalker instead.. think about how that’ll sound to others.

@dasakuryo brought up how this nighttime phenomenon on Uyumi, the real life place where some of the Crait scenes were shot, would make for a good closing scene centered on Finn and Rey.

That picture brought to mind a leak that surfaced months ago where a person mentioned having caught a brief glance of the final scene in The Last Jedi.

According to this leak the scene would be visually similar to the last scene of Empire Strike Back, though it clearly did not take place on a ship.

Now look at the final scene in ESB.

According to the leak, the would be two characters in the shot. Finn and Luke.

I was not until today aware of the fact that Crait was filmed at Uyuni, nor of that stunning visual effect there is at night. But having seen the first picture I could definitely see how it would at a quick glance bring to mind the closing scene in ESB.

A final interesting tidbit is that John has said that we will learn about Finn’s family in TLJ, but that it will not be dealt with in depth. Are we going to see a very late family reveal in TLJ between Luke and Finn I wonder?

For curiosity’s sake, why do you think that Kylo’s actions (village massacre, the use of starkiller) make him an irredeemable fascist whereas you seem to like Anakin, who massacres the entire temple including all the children and is part of the use of the death star? I’ve seen stuff about how Kylo is raised in privilege while Anakin was a slave, but both undergo pretty insideous psychological conditioning (snoke targeting kylo from birth in bloodline, anakin being taught to suppress his trauma)

My liking a character is not premised on projecting on them a morality they don’t have. I like Anakin in the prequels because of his internal struggles and the sinister contrast between his boyish persona and what he was becoming. I love Darth Vader from the original trilogy because he’s violent, ruthless, and looks cool.

I don’t even consider Anakin/Vader to be redeemed. Yeah, he saved his biological offspring from being tortured to death, big whoop. That’s self-interest, not redemption. I don’t think he’s made up for even one of the innocent lives he’s taken. Luke chose to forgive him and accept him as his father, which was his choice. Leia did not, and that was just as valid.

You know what would have made me hate Vader? If he had lived, everyone magically forgave him for a decades-long career of brutality and fell over themselves comforting the poor little mass murderer, and he had vocal stans popping up everywhere going “Ani did nothing wrong in his life uwu.” This is basically what Kylostans are doing and what they’re saying Kylo’s story should be. I like Kylo fine as an entertaining villain. I detest the cult of woobification surrounding him.

You want him to be redeemed like Vader? Fine. Vader gave his life to kill the Emperor and was forgiven by exactly one person, Luke. If that’s what Kylo gets I’d be fine with it, though I would prefer life in prison because I think Vader got off easy.

As for the circumstances of Vader’s and Ren’s descent, I’m with LucasFilm story group’s Pablo Hidalgo: They may have suffered trauma, grooming, and abuse,
but they and they alone remain responsible for their choices. They were
both grown men when they chose to go to the Dark Side and murder
innocents. Whatever manipulation they may have suffered were reasons,
not excuses.

The sequel trilogy makes this contrast even clearer, because guess who else suffered a lifetime of brainwashing, abuse, and indoctrination, but in contrast to the two above characters chose not to hurt innocent people? Finn didn’t have any countervailing influences in his life like Ben Solo did, no one to help him until he reached out at incredible risk to himself. As I have stated before, Finn takes away Kylo Ren’s excuses and I believe that is why Ren has a deep, personal hatred of Finn. It’s why the Finn Skywalker theory works so well in story terms, because you’d have the moral touchstone of the sequel trilogy come to grips with the opposite sides of the Skywalker legacy.
