“It’s been a year since Finn first joined the Resistance, and since he saw his friend die in front of him. He needs comforting, and Poe is willing to provide it for him.
Or, alternatively – stop making Finn take care of everyone but no one take care of him goddammit”
Finn glanced down at the card in his hand, a little bent from being kept in his pocket for a week, and read the neat lettering: “Poe Dameron – Psychic”.
Well, that’s a lie. What Finn actually finds is a mess of wires and rusted parts that look like they could have once been parts of a droid a long time ago.
Maybe. Possibly.
Finn didn’t really care, to be honest. He just felt a pang in his heart when he saw the poor, broken, mess of a thing forgotten in the corner of the Resistance base and thought: It doesn’t deserve that.”
“As an actor, Finn’s used to exploring a character’s story and finding what makes them tick, what’s truly important to them. It turns out it’s pretty nice when he does it for himself too.”
“I don’t need a therapist.” Atria just stares at him, their non-expression conveying doubt so effectively it has Finn blushing up to his ears. Atria shakes their head, dark eyes rolling before handing him a slip with the therapist’s name on it.
“I’m not going to force you,” Atria says, a quiet murmur in the otherwise silent room, “I just think you’d benefit greatly from it.” With that, the medic leaves the room, just as silent and unobtrusive as the first-time Finn had met them.
“Finn has spent some time away from D’Qar to further explore his relationship with the Force. He hasn’t been long, but the Resistance waits for no man, and General Organa’s next move is already in the works.
Some are handling the lull of peacetime better than others, but in the time between their next battle and the last, there’s nothing to do but live.”
“Finn stares out the window of the restaurant, the seat across from his empty and waiting for Poe. A million thoughts go through his mind. He isn’t supposed to interact with the people or the families in his care. His job as a guardian angel is just to sit back and observe, step in when there’s a threat to someone’s life, but nothing more. Yes, Finn is able to live among humans. He is able to work, and seek some interests outside his job when duty doesn’t occupy him. But there are some limits to what he was taught he should and should not do. Finn should not be texting the uncle of someone he saved. He certainly should not be eating lunch with him.
Or, alternatively – Finn is a guardian angel just doing his job. But then Poe comes into his life, and things change.”
Listen anon, it’s still racist if done in ignorance okay? It just means that it was done without malicious intent, but that doesn’t mean it was racist. Racism operates regardless of intent, racist stereotypes works regardless of the intent of the person perpetuating them.
Okay?
And stop conflating ignorance and innocence alright?
And why are you more worried about the feeling of a person who’s made a mistake than the people who are subjected to this extremely harmful stereotype constantly?
That post wasn’t even a specific call out post for anyone, it was a general PSA that they’re the same size and that portraying Finn as the bigger/taller one plays directly into a racist stereotype. So who the hell are you defending anon? The feelings of a figment of your imagination over the real life Black fans who constantly have to see and deal with this crap from fanartist.
Like, I was around 2 years ago and saw the constant racist portrayal of Finn in fanart that came out after TFA. I’d rather not have that happen again.
Listen, if you fuck up out of ignorance, just fix it. If someone called you out specifically apologize and do so without making it about yourself, this is not actually about you, then fix it.
I don’t art, but I write and yes I’ve done shit out of ignorance. I’ve never been called out specifically, but learned through informative posts like the one I just made. But unlike you I didn’t start getting defensive when a post like that came across my dash or I found one in the tags, I just quietly buggered back and fixed the parts of my fic that played into racist tropes.
What I did was done out of ignorance yes, but that doesn’t change that it was still racist and I needed to fix it!
Stop pretending that this shit is bloody rocket science. Sheesh
P.S. There are also a lot of shots that makes Poe look like the taller/bigger of them both in TFA and TLJ, but I have yet to see one single piece of art or read one single fic where he’s portrayed as gigantic next to Finn.
Funny how that works.
Racism requires intent.
A) No, it doesn’t.
B) A quick look at your blog shows you’re just another troll. Bye laddie.
Oh my god the goalpost moving, redefinition and fragility with these people i just
