Oscar requesting that his character not be killed early on, or at least having reservations, is something he actually talked about, though (link). That doesn’t mean Poe can’t still rise in prominence, of course. The character went from dying early on to leading a subplot of the second movie and his own comic series, after all. And all the while Finn can’t even get a book of his own.
Okay, no quite what happened. Can’t dig out the interview right now but what went down was the JJ set up a meeting with Oscar – I think it was at a cafe in Paris because Oscar was shooting there at the time – and presented him with Poe’s role, including the character dying early on. Oscar told JJ that he was tired of playing guys who died early (he’d done a number of those roles recently) and that he wasn’t really interested in doing it again. So basically, thanks but no thanks.
They then went their separate ways and Oscar thought it through and decided that he’d rather be doing Poe and die early, than having someone else do him. So he called JJ back prepared to take the role as JJ had presented it to him, only JJ then told him he’d changed it and found something for Poe to do later on and so kept him alive.
You know, if we’re going to be getting canon Finnrey I’m almost relieved they’ll spend most of 8 apart and the bulk of their interactions will be in 9, now that JJ is coming back. Nothing Rian has said gave me confidence that he’d treat the relationship right. I’d much rather have JJ, who gave us the interactions that imploded our hearts, wrap things up.
I think it’s extremely insulting to be anti-rian johnson when the movie hasn’t even come out yet! Talk about premature labelling…
Reylos: “How dare EK Johnston or anyone compare Kylo Ren to a Nazi or a fascist.”
Yet, if you google Star Wars/Nazi then you would see multiple sources and interviews where The First Order is compared to Nazis. And where the creators of Star Wars including JJ confirms that the bad guys in Star Wars was inspired by real life Nazism. Including Kylo Ren.
Reylos will be quick to use Daisy’s words or one of the casts words if they think it diminishes the black man being a love interest to the white woman, for the sake of them being entitled to believe that their white problematic male fave should be her love interest.
Yet, if there are any quotes from the creators of Star Wars that helps frame their white fave Kylo Ren for the villain that he is they ignore it.
Here is a link where JJ mentions this about Kylo Ren.
If your first reason for why J.J. Abrams was chosen as the Episode IX director is basically “he has time on his hands,” then your “analysis” is probably shit and not worth reading.
Not only did he already have an agreement with Paramount, they actually accommodated him so he can work on SW and another studio can’t come snap him up. That’s how busy and in demand he is, that he had to rearrange his entire work schedule and his preexisting agreement with a major studio–a change it agreed to because it wants him so badly–in order to do IX.
Readily available? Fuck outta here. J.J. didn’t come back because he had nothing better to do, he came back because he badly wanted to. And likely, I suspect, because he was begged to.
Bob Iger was banging on JJ’s door with Boyega and Ridley waiting in the backseat of his whip throwing puppy dog eyes at JJ.
🤢 Johnson apologist
So basically Iger is the Rey to JJ’s Luke, while John and Daisy are sharing Chewie’s fur suit and broke the door down? Makes sense to me.
Okay but this just really underlines how desperate some people at Disney/LFL were to have JJ back. Also they must really have offered JJ something substantial to return when he initially said he didn’t want to. And I doubt it is just money, he could get that easier and with less risk elsewhere.
Paramount had every right to keep JJ to the contract he’d signed yet chose to accommodate him on this? Yeah I know Disney is a freaking mastodon, but Paramount isn’t exactly a small time indie company is it? Sounds like JJ is a guy who can pretty much name his projects and conditions as he pleases.
Finally, did this person take a single look at JJ’s IMDB profile and the huge number of projects he’s been involved in since TFA premiered and till now? Like, the man has been the opposite of idle.
@lj-writes Funny how, on the other hand, we barely hear from RJ’s projects 🤔🤔🤔🤔

I am nearly positive that JJ’s agreement with Paramount came with a penalty clause in case of breach of contract. Either Paramount agreed to waive it because they preferred to modify the agreement rather than have JJ pay it and walk, or Disney/LF agreed to pay the penalty (or whatever portion of it, since JJ wasn’t in full breach) to Paramount so JJ can work on IX. And that’s on top of whatever they’re paying for JJ’s work. Both Paramount and the Mouse want JJ, bad.
I was actually going to leave out the IMDB profile comparisons because a lot of JJ’s credits since 2016 are as executive director, which can mean anything from “I lent the project my big important name without doing anything” to “I did everything that wasn’t anyone else’s job.” With him I’m guessing it was somewhere in between, like bringing money into the projects plus differing levels of creative work. But even assuming he only put in work into half the listed projects, the comparison between him and RJ is hilarious or sad depending on how you look at it. They’re not even in the same playing field.
This is RJ between TLJ and… actually he has nothing after TLJ other than the untitled first movie in the trilogy that has no release date yet, so I decided to be generous and went back 10 years.
And yeah, these are director credits as opposed to producer credits and maybe it is too soon for RJ to be working again or something, except JJ’s been working nonstop after TFA and has a video game that he was creative director for coming out in 2019 in addition to EpIX. RJ doesn’t have anything going on since TLJ, not as a producer, not as a writer or anything else that I can find. But, you know, I bet he’s beat and needs his rest unlike that slacker JJ.

I don’t get this connection, can anyone explain it to me? Why has a living Leia suddenly become inconvenient for Reylows? I thought in their mythology she was supposed to be the sweet long-suffering mother who welcomed Kylo back with open arms? Have they finally gotten through their skulls that they got Leia all wrong? Is it because, with the confirmation that Leia won’t be recast or (re?)animated, archived footage!Leia can’t tearfully fall at Kylo’s feet and beg him to forgive her for making him a mass murderer? Why do they want Leia dead?
But yes, I want reylows to cry for 10 years the way canon Zutarans still are. Pointing and laughing at them will be worth the nuisance they’ll make of themselves.
Leia being alive goes against every single theory they have had since Carrie Fisher died.
If Leia is alive, and since more than likely going to be written out the political way to explain her absence, everything Kylo does will be in direct aggression to his mother.
The New Republic/Resistance becoming a terrorist group? Impossible, Leia is still alive.
The New Republic/Resistanc being led into the ground? Impossible, Leia is still alive.
Kylo would be going to war with his own mother. Reylows cant flip that without trying to do the whole abusive mother thing again, which will practically make them, even though they already are, the undisputed demons of the Star Wars community because they are slandering Leia in her final film appearance.
Reylows are pretty much in denial. They think Johnson was a supporter and Kylo is the protagonist, Rey his baby maker, and Finn was a useless side.
But some of them are starting to wake up and realize that Finn/John is JJ’s main man, JJ was the one who started Force sensitive Finn and the whole Rey mysterious past, Kylo unapologetic villain, and of course Rey and Finn falling for each other….Reylows are scared of what JJ will do and all I can I say is:
That’s why think they starting all this drama. The end is here and Finn is coming for that ass.
I thought they were going to avoid all that by having Kyle exiled from his own fascist state for fraternizing with the enemy? 😂 But I imagine even they can see how stupid that is. Who’s going to do the exiling–the dude who got choked and thrown around by Supreme Asshat like a rag doll?
I guess they’re finally getting a sniff at reality outside their cult bubble, and that explains why they’re getting even more annoying than usual. Hoo boy, this is gonna get bad.
