Just had a stray thought.

What if the first teaser trailer for IX is us seeing a cloaked, hooded figure creating a lightsaber. We can’t see their face because of the hood hanging low and we don’t see the hands either, just the a tool making the final corrections for the weapon before it is done and there’s a deep sigh as the tool is placed on a tray among many others.

Then we hear Rey’s voice saying, “Well, let’s see if this works”, but when the figure stand up and ignites the lightsaber we see that it’s been Finn who was working on it.

Tbh I might keel over dead if that happened and I can’t think of a better way for JJ to create hype and attention for IX and to get people talking about Star Wars again.

That got me thinking about where Finn might get the kyber crystal for his lightsaber, and I’m particularly taken with the idea of him taking crystals previously used for evil and changing them for his own use. My previous thought was that he might get one from a defeated Knight of Ren, or even get his hands on an old Sith lightsaber, and purify the tainted crystal like Ahsoka did.

Another source of kyber that would be fraught with meaning is Starkiller Base. SKB used to be a planet with a large kyber crystal deposit, which the Empire mined for the Death Star and the FO later used when they turned the planet into a superweapon. Now, SKB may be destroyed but kyber crystals are evidently stable at the pressure and temperature at the core of large stars, so chances are the crystals themselves survived though they may have drifted far away from the force of the explosion. What if Finn were to find a crystal, or be drawn to one, and made his ‘saber from that? He was once stationed on SKB, and there would be a lot of symbolism in his turning a weapon of mass destruction to a force for protection.

If we speak of destroyed planets with a large kyber deposit, of course, we can’t leave out our old standby Jedha. Idk how much kyber there would be left after the Empire strip-mined it, but chances are there would be enough left over for lightsabers. It’s also interesting in this context that Wadi Rum, one of the shooting locations for IX, was the location of Jedha in Rogue One. I mean even if IX includes a return to Jedha the landscape would be significantly changed, to put it mildly, to the extent any Jedha scenes shot in Jordan would have to be dressed up a lot in effects or might be better off shot against a green screen in the first place. Still, it’s an intriguing possibility and I would dearly love both an acknowledgment of Jedha’s devastation and its treasures–both mineral and spiritual–turned against the Empire’s successor.

I think they should end the trailer for Ep IX with Finn turning on brand new lightsaber. It would make us all scream and it would make the idiots so mad and I’m all for it!

The 1st trailer of TFA ended with Finn turning on a lightsaber and him and Kylo fighting with Maz’s VO saying “Just let it in,” so it would be fitting if the 1st trailer for IX ends with Finn igniting his own lightsaber and Rey saying “Just let it in.”

What colour should Finn’s lightsaber be? I think it’d be cool for him to have a green one. But it would also be cool to have a colour we havent seen before in the films.

(Also, slightly related – have there ever been lightsabers that change colour? Like..flicker from green to blue, or purple to blue, etc.)

Personally, I’m hoping for yellow, goldish color, but green would be dope too since it’s the color most people think of besides blue.

Lightsabers haven’t ever flickered between colors, but crystals have changed depending on the user’s affiliation to the light or dark. 

Give him the Darksaber. Give him the Darksaber!

It makes no narrative sense in TFA to let Finn ever have the lightsaber unless he was meant to be a Jedi as well.

Why? Because it is only given to him after Rey has her Force vision, we – the audience – already know she has the Force at this point so pulling in a second character – Finn – makes no narrative sense unless he was meant to be a Jedi as well.

It makes even less sense for Maz to tell him to fight with it as he had a blaster rifle moments before this sequence, so he did have a weapon but the story strips it from him without any explanation to give him the lightsaber. A Jedi’s weapon.

So all marketing aside. It makes no sense in the story for Finn to fight with the lightsaber, to purposefully be given it, if he was never intended for the Jedi’s or a Force users, path.

Another thing is when Maz gives Finn the lightsaber she does not tell him what to do with it, such as give it to Rey or Luke or whatever, she simply gives it to him

When Maz hands the lightsaber to Finn she says, “Take this, find your friend”. Find your friend and what? Protect her with it? Give it to her?

Again this happens after the Force back, so there’s no narrative value in the ambiguity if Finn doesn’t also have the Force. It would have taken JJ nothing to have the line go “Take this, find your friend and give it to her” if that was what was the intention the whole time, because the mystery of Rey’s Force sensitivity is pretty much already resolved for all but the densest of the audience.

So to all that goes “well it’s the marketing’s fault everyone thinks Finn has the Force when he doesn’t”. No, it isn’t. Sure it isn’t helping, but this is 100% the story’s responsibility, if Finn wasn’t intended as a Jedi this narrative misleading is completely and utterly pointless and downright cruel.

@bubblepunk99s Blazing white at the tips blending from grey to black near the hilt, with purple, green, and yellow streaks! It also has an invisible edge just beyond the white, so that it cuts an inch before anyone expects.

The bisexual colors lightsaber actually has two overlapping blades, one pink, one blue, to produce many shades of lavender in the middle.

Weren’t Ahsoka’s white lightsabers from purifying Dark Force-tainted crystals? If Finn does that…. THE SYMBOLISM.

@lj-writes One of the Knights of Ren appears to have a lightsaber, maybe Finn could retrieve a lightsaber from one of them in IX? (That is if they appear in IX) Just a thought.
