The most dominant shipping communities uphold racist aesthetic ideals, methodically erase people of color from their narratives and uphold white men as superior to all – and they continue to congratulate themselves for their own enlightenment while doing it.

Instead of glorifying shipping communities as empowering spaces for women, this is an opportunity to talk about what’s really lurking under that so-called subversive feminism.

After all the ugliness they’ve injected into Tumblr fan spaces, we can do better than letting them go down as martyrs. (Again.)

You’ll have to point out where op said shipping equals racism. She said racism is rampant in dominant shipping communities, which does not translate into all shippers being dedicated white supremacists. One has to wonder why you construe this as a personal attack on shippers.

That right there by necessity posits that shippers and racists (specifically meaning white supremacists in the context of the overall discussion on tumblr) are two sides of the same coin

We all know that racism is a problem in fandom. We know that. However, specifically relating it to the issue of white supremacist blogs being left untouched while transformative fiction blogs are purged, with the implication that somehow white supremacy and shipping can be compared in any way, is disingenuous at best.

This post is bad (or, at the very least, badly worded) and OP should feel bad.

If you can’t see the fundamental disingenuousness in the dichotomy the op objected to–between white supremacists on the one hand and “empowering” fandom communities on the other–then you don’t actually see fandom racism as a problem. If you give lip service to the idea of fandom racism but jump on to derail a post about fandom racism, if you whine about fandom being painted unfairly while ignoring how Black women who talk about fandom racism are harassed and attacked and threatened and called fascists and worse (gee, I wonder why op might not see much daylight between fandom’s treatment of her and outright alt right assholes?), then no, you don’t see fandom racism as a problem. You’re saying you do while being ready and willing to attack the people most affected who actually do speak out about it.

I love it. Labeling reylo critical content as empty progressive posturing while blatantly using “left-wing politics” to push meta about how Kylo Ren is an admirable character because….

Well, they haven’t answered that. Everything is focused on antis being incapable to process the nuances of a character who should by all rights be a horrifying villain in the late ‘10s, a sad manboy filled with rage against God knows what who is fully capable of acting on it.

The thing that keeps Kylo and Hux from being truly terrifying is that they lack the competence of their predecessors, and are made to look like fools in ways Vader and Palpatine never were. There is a danger in not taking an incompetent buffoon seriously, as we have well learned since the 2016 US presidential election, but to straight up celebrate and support them is far worse.

Kylo Ren is a perfect villain of our time, and the fact that he wins so many over, not with words but with puppydog eyes, would be fascinating if it wasn’t at the expense of characters who stand for everything our real life disaster-in-chief and the angry white majority who voted for him hates.

On no planet or alternate timeline does Kylo represent the antithesis of the alt-right. Is he “nuanced”? I mean, in the real world, most of the worst people have or had people they love. Many have mothers who loved them. They have feelings. People who commit atrocities *do* have feelings and can even come off as appealing. People should be aware of that. Being human doesn’t make one a hero, or even an “anti villain.”

I find it funny that now, overshadowed by Killmonger as a sympathetic villain, suddenly Kylo Ren is being described as a Well-Intentioned Extremist. Funny, because it describes Killmonger perfectly, but is so far from everything we know about Kylo that it looks like yall are just trying to ride on the coattails of Killmonger commentary because he’s actually sympathetic – and, more importantly, had a goal to lift up the oppressed and downtrodden. Kylo thinks he and the FO are right, but who is he trying to help? As in a plural who, committing extremist crimes because he supposedly has a crush on a woman doesn’t cut it.

Riddick, The Operative, and Boba Fett are anti-villains. Hell, even Loki wasn’t entirely motivated by self interest.

Kylo is a sad monster who looks innocent. There’s nothing scarier than that.

(Final note to left-wing-reyloist: Intellectually honest political commentators, if you’re even being serious, don’t refuse to engage with those who disagree with them. Blocking me – when it’s clear I’m one of the “antis” you’re actively trying to invalidate – is a weakass move.)

So going by hints on social media it seems that Adam is in Jordan too. So we could be getting a return to Jakku for not just Finn and Rey, but for Kylo too.

Or course there might be something in that old Imperial base that the First Order wants. 

Or maybe Kylo is once more chasing Finn and Rey while they’re trying to find or save something or someone.

Or given that the late post-Palpatine Empire or early First Order depending on how you look at it was tied to a Dark Side sect called The Acolytes of the Void as well as the fact that that base was where the FO Stomtrooper program was born there might be secrets for both Finn and Rey to uncover and information that Kylo would want for himself and the Knights of Ren and any encounter between the three is entirely by chance. Though given Kylo’s hatred of both Finn and Rey that would be bound to end in violence.

You… kinda missed Kylo’s hate on for Finn in TFA. It had nothing to do with Rey, but accepting that means accepting that Finn is the central, male lead and you guys just can’t handle that.

And you missed that entire bit where Kylo tried to kill Rey at the end of TLJ after she rejects him, orders his troops to blow the Falcon out of the sky knowing she’s on board and he straight up promises to destroy her when confronting Luke.

But dream on. Take your ignorance, racism and misogyny elsewhere.

I mean Kylo stared for an uncomfortably long time at Finn on Jakku and intimidated him by unfreezing Poe’s blaster bolt, immediately came up with Finn’s designation number when Hux mentioned the escaped pilot, and destroyed a whole console at the mention of Finn all before he had ever heard of Rey, but sure he only cares about Finn when Rey is involved 😂

She’s already blocked me and then STILL INTERACTED WITH ME lmaoooo. Srsly, she left me a note on a different post that I can’t see in full or respond to because of the block. Whether the block came before or after the reply is immaterial, since she already expressed a wish not to speak to me anymore–but that’s only when I can talk back, evidently. If she genuinely considers me a harassing bully or someone she otherwise wants to avoid she has no reason to purposefully interact with my blog.

I’ve seen this happen to @diversehighfantasy when anti antis blocked her then purposefully got in her notes so she couldn’t reply. One of them, thesovereignempress, outright lied about blocking her. It’s almost an honor, really, that I’m considered worthy of this dishonest treatment. Of course I haven’t done a fraction of what dhf has done in the discourse, nor have I gotten a fraction of the shit, but once I bring up racism in fandom I’m considered a threat/harasser/in league with harassers and deserving of these disingenuous tactics. Convenient, really.

Also it’s really rich that korrasera goes on and on about cognitive flaws in authoritarian personalities but is unwilling to confront any of her own biases. She is a deeply dishonest and at this point slightly scary person, since she has repeatedly demonstrated that she is willing to rewrite reality to whatever will suit her frame. I suggest people block her, though I’m going to leave her unblocked for now to see what else she gets up to.
