Hold on- Luke actually milks a sea monster ON SCREEN?? The fuck?? When I saw what I assumed were fake leakers talking about that bit to prove they’d really seen TLJ I figured they took something obscure from the leaked visual dictionary that would never actually be on screen. Like how we see the blue milk but you have to go to wookipedia to find out that its bantha milk. I cannot believe how bad TLJ sounds. It beggars belief.

Take a look for yourself, the cursed thing is on my dash. I’m still in disbelief that this is the final cut of the movie that made it into theaters. Is this some weird fever dream? An epic prank?

Have you seen spoilers from the visual direction? It leaked. Someone linked in finn’s tag. Would love your thoughts.

Holy shit I have so many thoughts. Here be spoilers below the cut:

From the Stormtrooper page it looks, unfortunately, like the Stormtrooper Uprising is a bust at least for this movie. The Executioners are not a dedicated unit but whoever happens to be on duty rotation that day to execute a disloyal trooper. It seems more likely Finn is going to get caught and the Executioner is going to try and execute him as a disloyal Stormtrooper (bitch you thought). I still hope Episode IX runs with an uprising and that TLJ will set it up, but I’m not getting up my hopes for it happening in TLJ.

Rose’s community had children stolen by the First Order, interesting! Is this to show the extent of the FO’s destruction and create a bond between her and Finn, or could it be a hint of something more? I’m  leaning toward the former, but it’s fun to speculate. Also, I’m still holding out hope that she’s from Jedhan diaspora and that a lot of Jedhan refugees setled down in the mining colony.

Is it just me or does the Prima Jedi, First of the Order, look a lot like Snoke? Here’s a flipped version of the image in the Dictionary.

Speaking of, I wonder if Luke and Snoke have similar ideas about how to restore balance. Luke’s entry mentions the cataclysmic conflicts that happen every time the cycle changes from Dark to Light and vice versa, and Snoke in the trailer similarly comments on how light rises to meet darkness. Maybe they’re each trying to end the cycle, Luke by bringing the Jedi Order to an end with him, Snoke by…. idk, killing all Force users? Bringing eternal Darkness?

It’s interesting to me that Finn doesn’t put on a full Resistance uniform but rather wears a hybrid outfit of the Resistance bomber jacket and Stormtrooper body glove. He does the same on Crait when he’s wearing I think a Resistance shirt and FO officer slacks? I’ve written before about how he may become a balancing power even if he joins the Resistance, and his wardrobe seems to symbolize that he isn’t given to any organization while taking the strengths from the organizations he comes across. It shows his pragmatic and independent spirit.

And wow, the Resistance really is going into some gray areas with some of the ways they’re surviving this all-out assault. Tasing deserters? Hiding escape pods from aid? None of these actions are evil, but they certainly are ruthless in a desperate situation. Good for them, and fuck the people who say preserving a spark of resistance in the face of a genocidal regime makes them as bad as said regime. But it does raise the question–where does the cycle end?

Rey Skywalker/Solo feels are stronger than ever with this Force bond that’s so emphasized. Either she and Kiln are kin or the franchise is breaking its own rules, and I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt for now to say it’s the former.

And this is a small thing but I called it on the implications of Phasma’s background shown in the Phasma novel and that Finn totally saw through her. Phasma’s description in the Dictionary is practically a summary of that post.

The description of how Luke’s school was destroyed still bothers me. Like, his nephew led the the destruction of the school but the wider galaxy would not know of this calamity for years to come? So the deaths of a bunch of students were just…. covered up? Or does that sentence have a different meaning, that they didn’t mean it was Ben Solo? I still think there’s something there.

Why do people so vehemently forget that Luke has a female love interest in a canon novel? Like I have all respect for headcanons where Luke is gay but at the end of the day, there is a canon novel where he has a female love interest, Nakari Kelen. This novel, Heir to the Jedi, was written with input from the infamous story group and is canon. You can of course dislike this, but it’s simply out there.

@dasakuryo brought up how this nighttime phenomenon on Uyumi, the real life place where some of the Crait scenes were shot, would make for a good closing scene centered on Finn and Rey.

That picture brought to mind a leak that surfaced months ago where a person mentioned having caught a brief glance of the final scene in The Last Jedi.

According to this leak the scene would be visually similar to the last scene of Empire Strike Back, though it clearly did not take place on a ship.

Now look at the final scene in ESB.

According to the leak, the would be two characters in the shot. Finn and Luke.

I was not until today aware of the fact that Crait was filmed at Uyuni, nor of that stunning visual effect there is at night. But having seen the first picture I could definitely see how it would at a quick glance bring to mind the closing scene in ESB.

A final interesting tidbit is that John has said that we will learn about Finn’s family in TLJ, but that it will not be dealt with in depth. Are we going to see a very late family reveal in TLJ between Luke and Finn I wonder?

Star Wars: Comics vs. Movies.

Yes, but the point is: which one hurts us more?

Luke the Jedi, strong in his conquered suffering, carrying the lifeless body of a man who was once prone to striding as proudly as Luke does now, strong and untouchable, but is now brought low and helpless by a final act of love. A stoic hero holding up a spent sacrificial victim.

OR

Luke the boy, recently tortured within an inch of his life, dragging a weight too heavy for him, but still struggling on with all the painful determination of a lonely child who’ll do anything to hold on to the dying father he has finally truly found again.

Discuss.

I should be worried that Daisy said Finn and Rey were like Luke and
Leia…but then again….Luke DID have a crush on Leia and Leia did initiate
a Kiss with her brother so…

🤷

Not even remotely the same situation, L & L were actual siblings while Finn and Rey, if anything, are confirmed NOT to be siblings because no way would Daisy be giving out a spoiler like that. I understand you’re making a joke but Finnrey would not be incest whether it becomes canon or not.

What if Rey sees Finn fighting the First Order in her force vision and that’s why she decides to go back like how Luke reacted after witnissing Han and Leia in danger in The Empire Strikes Back? I’m not saying Finn needs Rey’s protection-he can handle himself very well. By showing how much Rey cares about Finn in this way the movie can avoid the racist trope that you are afraid might happen.

OHHHHHH yeah i want to see it!!!

This is the thing I want to see. Not in terms of her saving him like a damsel in distress (he didn’t save her this way either) but her being SO concerned for him when she realizes he’s in danger, that she leaves Ahch-To to help him. And so just like he ran into the belly of the FO for her, she will run into the belly of the FO for him. And they will both join forces when they meet and fight their way out together with Rose. (and potentially Luke, who might decide to follow Rey unlike Yoda who was chilling)

And the parallel to TESB would make it even better.

(also this would be a realistic reason for Rey to somehow end up in Snoke’s throne room… she gets caught while on the destroyer…. and I think it’s even possible that they somehow lure her there bc Kylo knows how much Finn means to her….. *cough*)

And remember, Luke didn’t turn out to be the rescuer he thought he would be. It was he who ended up needing Han, Leia, and Lando’s help. Similarly, it doesn’t look like Rey’s confrontation with Snoke went all in her favor if the bruises and the cuts of her being tortured are any indication.
