Jemel Roberson was the “good guy with a gun” they keep telling us are the best defense against mass shootings, and now he’s dead because he had a legal, warranted gun in his hand.
NRA and Trump have not commented. Trump is busy trying to make Macron look bad on Twitter after he said nationalism is the opposite of patriotism (complete with, no shit, a “Make France Great Again” tweet).
Not to mention, this bar shooting at a predominantly Black bar was barely news until social media jumped on it. Granted, it doesn’t qualify as a mass shooting as there was just one fatality – Jemel.
The silence from pro-gun advocates only reinforces what we already know: The 2nd Amendment only applies to white people.
So the cop lost his temper and started beating up this kids mom. The kid intervened and the cop pinned him to the ground. While he was already pinned to the ground and not fighting, the cop shot him point blank. And the jury ruled that a reasonable use of lethal force. Am I reading this right? Who are these bootlicking pieces of shit they keep getting for these juries?
Trayvon Martin was walking home from a store. George Zimmerman falsely accused him of being a criminal.
Philando Castile was reaching for his license. Jeronimo Yanez falsely accused him of reaching for his gun.
If conservatives are so worried about men’s lives being ruined by false accusations, why didn’t they feel the same way about these men being falsely accused?
But the notion that we might understand a person with the capacity for violence to also have the capacity for gentleness is downright laughable set against the contemporary backdrop of state violence committed against black men… . It’s a stark contrast that plays out all around us, the horrifying product
of a culture, of a media, and of social, economic, and political
structures that teach us to value white men more than any other kind of
human beings.
In the same month that Roof quietly ate his Burger King after killing
nine people, 15-year-old Dajerria Becton attended a Texas pool party and
got into a fight after some white kids reportedly told a black girl to
“go back … to Section 8” housing. When white cop Eric Casebolt arrived
on the scene, he slammed Becton to the pavement, grabbing her violently
by her braids. Later reports helped us understand that Casebolt had been
particularly stressed that day, having already attended to two suicide
calls. But Becton, the black teenager, was described by Fox News host
Megyn Kelly as “no saint,” for having not obeyed the officer. There was
little curiosity about Becton’s experience of having been held roughly
by her hair while wearing only a bathing suit, just the pressing
question about white-male psychology: What could this one-dimensional
black girl have done to make the multidimensional white man react in the
way that he did?
when I was 11, my (black) neighbor witnessed my house being broken into. she called the police to report the crime. I came home from school and the robber was still inside. I personally watched as a man I didnt know walked out of my home with our stuff.
the police didnt show up for 3 days.
when they did, they told us there was nothing the could do because we “staged the house”. they claimed we hid our tv’s and valuables to make it look like more was actually stolen. they never asked for a description, never visited the neighbor who saw the break-in, anf as they left, they told us that stolen property is almost never recovered and we should “buy more and get on with [our] lives”.
…
when I was 23, I was dog-sitting for a (white) friend. her neighbor called the police and said there was a strange black man in her yard.
the police showed up in 5 minutes.
6 units, 12 officers, stormed the back yard as I was running around with the dog. some came through the house and I know for a fact that the front door was locked. they damaged around $5000 worth of property, took her dog to the pound, and me to jail.
my friend had to cut her trip short and drive 4 hours back to get me from jail and explain to police in person that she knew me. because “that could be anybody on the phone”. the neighbor was with her when she came. we had met several times before. she was neither embarrassed nor apologetic.
moral of the story?
too many of us have lived this. too many of us didn’t survive.
There’s a very wealthy black guy who lives in my home village and he’d purchased an Aston Martin Vantage. Every time HE drive out in it the police were called by different people reporting a ‘stolen car being driven’. He never got any apologies from the police on the occasions he was arrested and then released.
His wife on the other hand, who is white, has driven around in the car with zero issues.
Nowadays she drives the sports car and he drives a Ford Mondeo because he said it’s just not worth the shit he got from police anymore.
I don’t care who you are, if you complain about the amount of attention Black Lives Matter and Black issues get you are antiblack. “But Native Americans!” “But Asians!” Shut up. Tearing down Black people does not help any other community. Yes it can be frustrating when issues you care about don’t get enough focus, but I promise it’s not Black people’s activism that’s getting in your way. Do your own work and don’t act entitled to what gains Black activists have achieved. You’re not as progressive or nice as you think you are if you’re willing to use Black people as a scapegoat.
People don’t say BlackLivesMatters sucks, because we’re “anti-black.” We are against BlackLivesMatters because everyone who is for it is FULL OF SHIT. You lie, you have a hypocritical mindset, and YOU ARE SELFISH. We say asians, native americans, etc. need attention too, BECAUSE YOU ARE NOT THE ONLY RACE THAT MATTERS. You people act like everything needs to be centered around you! You ignore every single race around you and say, I’m the one being oppressed! See that black girl in human trafficking?? “THIS MEANS WE NEED TO SAVE OUR BLACK WOMEN FROM HUMAN TRAFFICKING!!!” You people representing BlackLivesMatter take one situation and make it ALL about you! There other races around the world that have to go through shit and STILL go through shit. You don’t KNOW what racism IS!!! You’ll make anything an issue about you and you’ll only mention “history” when it actually benefits you, but even that you twist around and create lies out of it. You’re just a toxic community full of people who do nothing but harrass people, make lies, and act like complete hypocrites. You’re racist, you’re selfish, and you people are DISGUSTING for making every single problem in the world about YOU.
I’m like… nonblack and Asian… but pls go on about how I make everything about Black people, you’re funny. Also Black activists have stood in solidarity with Native Americans and Asians, and spoken against the deaths of nonblack people at the hands of police.
So like if you get this salty about Black people speaking up and organizing around an issue that disproportionately affects them while harming no other group’s efforts to stand for justice and lending a hand wherever possible… then yeah, you’re antiblack as fuck.
Asian person here to say #blacklivesmatter and don’t use us as your fucking tools you racist trash.
Misunderstanding the goal of BLM is easy when you hate black people!
What drives me crazy about anti-BLM bullshit is that BLM’s goals benefit EVERYONE. Police reform to decrease violence against civilians is not just good for Black people, it’s something everyone should get behind. But no, these dumbfucks hate Black people so much they’d rather live with police killing innocent people than see fewer Black people killed.
They’re not actually stupid, though. That’s the point, isn’t it? It’s entirely by design. They WANT Black people and other minorities to be afraid and unsafe. They WANT to keep using the police as a tool of state terror. The hatred is terrifying and poisonous.
