Not that I have seen but what do you expect the diversity is window dressing…Force is for the White Characters only under RJ

Also I find it quite appalling that characters who don’t have superpowers seem to be considered less interesting than those who do… and when these characters who aren’t Force sensitive also happen to be played by actors of colour, it becomes all the more shitty. I wonder if Rian would still claim he has no idea why people would think Finn is being sidelined…. like if I hand him every single one of his quotes about this movie that I have… he literally can’t pretend like he cares about him equally.

‘There’s a big part of the story yet to be written and not by me,” says Johnson, who will hand the trilogy back to The Force Awakens filmmaker J.J. Abrams for 2019’s Episode IX. “But I don’t think it’s very interesting if the whole story is just ‘Will Kylo get his comeuppance?’ He’s a more complicated character than that and I think he deserves a more complicated story than that. I don’t see the point of trying to get behind his mask and learn more about him if all we’re going to learn is ‘Yeah, he’s just an evil bad guy that needs to be killed.’

(EW)

RIAN, MAYBE YOU’RE THE ONLY ONE WHO WANTED TO GET BEHIND HIS MASK AND LEARN ABOUT HIM, BECAUSE EVERYONE ELSE JUST SEES HIM AS THE GENOCIDAL SHIT WHO KILLED HAN SOLO AND DESERVES COMEUPPANCE. Star Wars is a hot mess of a camel and no one told Rian that the horse isn’t supposed to have a hump.

Honestly, look around at your own fucking industry right now in 2017, Rian. Like… idk, roughly 51% of the planet, is pretty damn interested in the story of “bad guy/sexual predator gets his comeuppance” and it’s… creepy that you’re not. The most interesting choice SW could make imo is to resist the tropey, boring, trite, puritanical idea of “feeling guilty counts as taking responsibility and forgiveness is an inherent right, so don’t bother changing (if you’re a white guy).” We already got that with Vader. Unless you write Kyle’s “complexity” as working his ASS off to actually correct his mistakes – and he never can; he killed them by the billion – then miss me with it. There’s nothing someone complicit in genocide can do to be worthy of forgiveness or empathy.

And fwiw: sure, Kyle is complex. But so are Rey and Finn and Poe and Luke and Leia, and they deserve fully-rounded, complicated, complex stories that don’t revolve around your edgelord self-insert. The setup you got for TFA allowed Rey, Finn, Poe, Luke, and Leia immense room for growth and change. If you put their stories on hold to create complexity where there really wasn’t that much for Kyle, that’s on you if (and hopefully when) JJ takes back his own fucking characters and undoes your nazi-loving bullshit by giving the heroes’ journey back to the heroes.

Rian, we already HAD a complex, interesting character take off his mask to show the audience there was a story underneath. His name is Finn. You fucked up.

Rian about Kyle Ron: “Because if these movies are about adolescence, Kylo is that anger of adolescence and that rejection of the parents, and wanting to screw your dad; and that’s something that all of us, to some degree, can identify with.” WTF????

aspiringwarriorlibrarian:

chuchisriyo-deactivated20181102:

Wait what, “wanting to screw your dad”? Daddy issues much?

Also Kylo is thirty! He’s no adolescent! Dumbass.

So Rian sees the thirty year old Kylo as an adolescent on par with the 19 year old Rey, while ignoring the 23 year old Finn.

Hmm…. it seems like there’s some sort of double standard that makes Kylo an adolescent and Finn too old for those storylines despite their age suggesting it should be the other way around…..can’t quite tell what that is but it seems strange that the person over a decade older than rey is being played up as her peer rather than her similar-aged partner…can anyone help i can’t quite put my finger on it.

WILL FINN BE IN A COMA IN STAR WARS 8? RIAN JOHNSON HAS A HILARIOUS IDEA

timetravelingshark:

lj-writes:

“We did at some point joke that it would be great to just have him be in a coma for the whole movie and keep cutting back to him.”

From there the crowd erupts with laughter at the prospect. Rian Johnson continues to explain that each of these cuts back to Finn would have him uttering some nonsense in his unconscious state, and at no point in the entire run time of the movie would the former Stormtrooper wake up.

Yeah… hilarious. This is the first result that came up when I searched for “Finn Rian Johnson,” as opposed to “Kylo Ren Rian Johnson” which showed the director gushing about how fun it was to write Kylo and how the 30-year-old is an adolescent trying to find himself.

It’s a fuckin’ joke, man. Calm down.

Haha. Fuck off.

WILL FINN BE IN A COMA IN STAR WARS 8? RIAN JOHNSON HAS A HILARIOUS IDEA

users on twitter are screenshotting posts of what people here comments about how Finn is treated by Rian/Lucasfilm etc and mocking about it there. They posted some of it in an account called “bad sw discourse‏”. Fans wanting a black character to be treated better isn’t “bad discourse” or something to make joke

Evidently Finn fans aren’t supposed to want stuff, even if their expectations are completely in line with the importance the character had in the first movie and the way the character was promoted to us.

Bad SW discourse is literally a blog that mocks people for criticizing SW, LF, and RJ in any shape or form. And the fact that they take people’s constructive comments about the way Finn is treated as “bad discourse” and mock it says everything you need to know about the problems in this fandom…

I hate those franchise/director stans. It’s a special kind of asshole that holds a work or creator as above criticism, or insists all reactions that don’t match their own are invalid.

kyberfox:

Tbh I don’t care at this point what Rian does and doesn’t do at this point. December 15th, or 13th, or whenever it is this movie has premiere, will arrive and disappoint us all soon enough. Until then I really just want to have fun with this.

And quite frankly, given the amount of bullshit theories I’ve had to read about Kale in the last nearly two years – such as the one last night who once again steals popular ideas for Finn’s story and applies them to Kylo and only does this after they got popular for Finn – I don’t get why so many seem to have problems with theories that give even half a chance of Finn’s, Rose’s and Poe’s stories will be relevant and awesome. I don’t mean people writing their own worried posts, I get why and I share the feeling, but why people hop on other people’s positive posts with a “nah, not gonna happen”.

Yeah, maybe not. But let me dream until December.

Yeah I’ve talked about this issue before. I think it says more about Star Wars and some of its creators and fandom than the fans themselves, who badly want this awesome stuff to happen but are managing expectations to avoid heartbreak. Not saying you shouldn’t feel irritated, of course, you have every right to be. Also not saying you should be cool with people adding negativity, they kinda get me down too and I agree it’s a better idea for people to make their own posts for the negative parts of their reaction.

For myself, I totally get where these pessimistic Finn, Poe, and Rose stans are coming from bc I’m just… all but in despair over the way this franchise seems to be headed and the way this fandom already is outside the very small enclave of Finn stans here. I would already be gone if not for the cool theorizing by you and others, the sort of stuff that gets downvoted to hell on Reddit, and the thin threads of hope I still have that things might still turn out awesome.

I know some people have already deleted and left the fandom because of the trailers and the shit that spews from Rian’s mouth, and depending on how TLJ falls out I might also leave SW and concentrate on Trek and Pacific Rim. For me it really depends on how much there will be left for JJ to salvage.

skywalkerapologist:

Rian says he would have liked to have a big central romance in TLJ but it didn’t work with the story…

John says Finn and Rey are “long distance” for most of TLJ…

It’s almost like it’s hard to have a love story when the two people in love are light-years apart, and exploring the ins and outs of a long-distance relationship doesn’t exactly fit the format of an action-adventure-fantasy-military adventure.
