EPISODE VIII WHO??????

@lj-writes Looks like you’re not the only one who considers the ST a duology, looks like JJ agrees with you XD

Every even number after IV is invalid.

@lj-writes you spoke it and it became reality! Start preaching, boss!

From now on all the real ones will tag Sequel content as Sequel Duology.

J.J.: Thanks Johnson and Lucas on Twitter as he starts filming

Also J.J.: Does this

We stan a legend

JJ is the definition of kill em with kindness.

I aspire to get on that level!

OMG IT’S EVEN BETTER THAN I THOUGHT

He @’d RJ in the tweet where he posted the picture so RJ would HAVE to see the VII IX in the foreground. JJ YOU MAGNIFICENT BITCH

He was a producer on TLJ and had seen the script before filming . He may not have had the power to change anything in an official capacity. But he could have just come to Rian Johnson and said. “I like this script but there are some things that don’t feel right. Can we talk about it”. And they Rian Johnson would have listened to JJ Abrams or at least talked about how what he is doing will carry on to the next movie.

Filming episode 8 again just doesn’t make sense

I mean Daisy speculated that RJ threw out JJ’s outlines for the next 2 movies and she must have had a reason to say that publicly, so what makes you think RJ would have been open to JJ’s input lmao

And no one’s saying Episode 8 should be filmed again whut (much as I would like that)

Is there an in-universe moral problem with Rose tasing Finn, or is it just an example of RL racist framing?

thehungryvortigaunt:

lj-writes:

I think it’s both. The Resistance is a volunteer militia like the Rebellion before it–there was never any problem with Luke going “awol” to Dagobah instead of meeting up with the Rebels after Hoth. Though Rose was ordered to stun deserters according to the novelization, that doesn’t make it right. It’s doubly wrong in relation to Finn, who had never joined the Resistance and made that fact clear shortly before Rose stunned him.

The racist part comes in where the above is completely ignored and the tasing–which resulted in Finn being thrown into a wall, losing consciousness, and experiencing partial paralysis–is treated largely treated as a joke or simply just desserts for a deserter (which he wasn’t). Fandom constantly shits itself trying to justify the attack, adding another layer of racism in fandom reception.

Hey, as an Asian woman you should obviously recognize that Rose was being Wise™ and Serene™ in her decision to violently suppress the “uppity” black guy.

Argh the trope of the wise guiding Asian woman who exists for the growth of some fucking man can die a fiery death

…oh really?

I’ll just leave this here.

Considering the holiday, esp with how literally everyones sidenote is Jews don’t celebrate it they celebrate that other one Kwanzaa/Hannukah (no really most people don’t know which they just know ones Jewish or assume they’re both the same thing), I think it’s safe to give him benefit of the doubt here and that he’s literally not trying to be mean y’all are just ridiculous and don’t realize how uninformed and stupid (even if we’ll meaning) the populace actually is.

As to why he didn’t go generic I’d again like to restate the populace is fucking stupid including the we’ll meaning ones.

Nice of you to extend benefit of the doubt on behalf of Jewish people when you’re not the intended target here. /sarcasm

Especially as you can’t tell the difference between Kwanzaa and Chanukkah, one being a secular Jewish holiday aggressively celebrating anti assimilation and the other being an African-American holiday that has nothing to do with Jewish people, Jewish holidays or Christmas.

I leave you to figure out which is which.

You and Rian have a lot in common. Such as not knowing when to sit down and shut up so the world doesn’t learn how stupid you are. But nah, gotta run your mouths both of you and enlighten the whole world to the scope of your ignorance.

Here’s a fun fact for you and Rian both. Two thirds of the world isn’t Christian and doesn’t celebrate Christmas. Of the over 4 billion people who do not celebrate Christian, Jewish people constitutes a tiny, tiny fraction.

Like 0.01% of them to be more precise.

There’s no reason at all to make us a special target unless you just hate Jews.

Next time buddy, don’t extent benefits of the doubts for attacks on a group you’re not a part of. You have nothing worthwhile to say about it anyway and you just prove yourself to be an asshole.

Final pro tip for you. If you do something stupid or harmful your intention doesn’t fucking matter. If you’re a decent person you own up, apologize and don’t do it again. And we all move on.

Unfortunately most people aren’t decent and stumble at step one or step two. So we never get to step three or further.

But stay happy in your ignorance. You seem more comfortable with that than you know, actually learning something and moving on.

Seriously, if he was going to acknowledge everyone who doesn’t celebrate Christmas the list would have included Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, Sikhs, Jainists, Wiccans, Asatru.. really more than the Twitter character limit can contain, and most of them more numerous than Jewish people. It’s a signal that alt-righters responded to when they came onto RJ’s comments with outright antisemitism. Maybe that was his clue that he’d put his foot in it, because I understand this tweet was deleted well ahead of the recent purge.

In the Star Wars spin-off Rogue One, Jyn mentioned Hyperspace tracking as one of the things the Empire was working on, setting up its plot-relevant appearance in ep 8. Do you think Solo already set something up that will come back in ep IX, especially with Billy Dee Williams returning as Lando?

jewishcomeradebot:

lj-writes:

Huh, I’d missed that part! So the Empire never completed the technology but the FO did? Makes me wonder how they got their hands on the Empire’s scientists and/or data. I haven’t seen Solo, and most of the speculation about Lando’s return focuses on his role in the OT. It would be neat if something in Solo set that up.

It’s very easy to miss unless you’re looking for it or are detail obsessed. It’s when Cassian and Jyn looks for the Death Star schematics on Scarif. They read aloud a lot of topics being researched, Hyperspace tracking is one of them. So I’d hardly call it “setting it up” as everyone but the most obsessed of nerds were going to miss it.

By that standard yes Solo could be “setting up something” for EpIX in that any extremely tiny detail might have been name dropped and that it’ll become plot relevant. But again, just namedropping something doesn’t count as “setting up for something”.

Setting up or something means laying actual ground work, if the majority of your audience is going to miss it then you haven’t done your job properly. The namedrop in RO of hyperspace tracking is an Easter egg, not a “setting up”.

So more likely than anything to do with Lando it could be about Enfys, her Cloud Riders or who the hell knows, maybe Maul gets another cameo.

And now that I think of it. Hyperspace tracking have been around since ANH. Vader and Tarkin tracked the Millennium Falcon through hyperspace when they jumped to Yavin. Obi-Wan did it to Jango Fett in AotC.

Hyperspace tracking in some form is as old as Star Wars and predates the Clone Wars. Rian yet again came up with nothing actually new yet is applauded for doing it.

That just makes the cast look foolish, insisting it couldn’t be done 😂

Is Rian a racist? He’s said great things about John being a star and all. Could he just personally identify more with Adam? Is that necessarily racist?

lj-writes:

From watching TLJ the conclusion is inescapable that he has some unexamined racism and a huge empathy gap going on.

He made that off-color joke about wishing a Merry Christmas except to everyone except Jewish people (link), something alt-righters climbed all over in celebration. He also, in a quickly deleted tweet, tried to compare Black Panther’s ratings bombing by white supremacists to TLJ’s low Rotten Tomatoes audience score. BP still got 79% on RT while TLJ has 46%, so there goes that theory lmao.

FINN IS WEARING REBEL GEAR FINN IS WEARING REBEL GEAR

I wonder what happened to this……..Rian?

Do you have any idea how much this pisses me off? Because that has to be the scene where Finn was supposed to be with Paige on board the bomber. There’s nothing else it can be.

But yet Rian keeps talking about like it was in an early draft that quickly got discarded.

Liar.

It went as far as a costume test if not to actual shooting before Craig went and dropped it again, because hey it would make Finn look too much like a hero.

It wasn’t an early draft thing, it wasn’t quickly dropped. It went all the way to a bloody costume test.

@jewishcomeradebot

I still think to this day Finn’s story was changed in re-shoots. Something just doesn’t add up. John’s hair is completely different and this taken from a BTS video released almost a year ago.

Both Rogue One and Solo went through extensive re-shoots, and I think TLJ was the same deal. Editing can change the perspective of an entire movie and I believe that was the same case here.

My guess is that the test audiences leaned more in favor with Finn and Poe’s perspective rather than Rose and Holdo’s. There are many times I watch the movie and I’m wondering why are these two characters so aggressively being shown in a bad light. TLJ claimed to have a very gray morality, but in truth it works very black-and-white.

I thought the “Poe Dameron” court martial at sdcc was a rumor but after googling it apparently it’s happening? Um, why???? Is this necessary? At LF wtaf are yall doing? Who is driving this thing??

When I told my husband about this event he laughed out loud and said it sounded like it was put together by fans critical of TLJ and the direction Poe’s character took. Oh you poor innocent man, I wish I lived in your world.

Keri Russell is being cast in IX.

lj-writes:

I’m already tired of fandom screaming “Rey’s mom!!”

@beyourowndensity I thought it was very likely at that point, too. What passed between Luke and Rey in TLJ is, at the very least, not commensurate with all the foreshadowing of their connection in TFA or even just the resonance of that final shot.

I wonder also what prompted Daisy to say RJ may have thrown out JJ’s outlines even while she professed not to know their contents–could she have had discussions with JJ about the parts that pertained to her character? Writers do that with actors sometimes, giving them spoilers so they can act the part right. JK Rowling privately gave Alan Rickman (rest in peace) spoilers about Snape (rest in pieces) because the 7th book was not out at the time the first films were coming out. Geoge Lucas had a fake line spoken on set at the parentage revelation in ESB, “Obi-Wan killed your father!” Instead of “I am your father!” to prevent leakage, but told Mark the real line to get the appropriate reaction. So if anyone would be given that kind of secret tip, particularly at the last shot of TFA, it’s Mark and Daisy, making Daisy one of the few people who could possibly tell RJ had deviated from the outline for VIII without having read it.

That said, I believe that train has left the station and there’s almost no way to make Rey a Skywalker or Solo without making the revelation weirdly cursory and abrupt or, alternately, making it so big as to swallow up all of Episode IX. I’d really prefer if the matter were laid to rest and I’m not at all adverse to the Skywalkers dying out with a genocidaire and patricide. The blood worship was my least favorite part of the franchise and fandom anyway, let the Skywalkers die and stay dead.
