Let’s summarize it: if you have the ultimate villain of today’s time (entitled white man from priviledged background who follows facist ideologies) fight against a diverse set of heroes…. people do NOT want to see them fail at everything, have no character development and see him become Supreme Leader of the galaxy, with next to no hope left…

It’s interesting that once the Star Wars heroes became more diverse, more representative, THAT was the time to make it very very important that heroes fail no matter what, that shutting up and submitting to the chain of command is the right thing to do even when all evidence indicates otherwise, that villains that look a lot like a nazi order are ~nuanced~ and succeed beyond belief at every turn, that sacrifices are worthless, that grimdarkness and cynicism is the destiny of even the most compassionate, and that hope and fairy tales are a bad story- one for children.

I don’t think that was the intent, to be clear! I don’t think RJ was trying to say that to a particular group. I just think it’s interesting.

We never get the fairy tale.

Psst…I’m pretty sure that WAS the intent. It’s a poorly written sob-story for pure evil combined with the delusional ‘color-blind’ idea that abusing minorities to ‘put them in their place’ is okay so long as their abuser has ovaries and pasty skin.

Must be nice being such a privileged ass you can just laugh at funny sounding German words while listening to an audiobook about the holocaust and being dismissive of stories warning people about fascism all the while leaving up a “joke” about singling out Jews for exclusion at Christmas for years. Little coward quietly deleted that one after I responded to it with this:

WOW WOW WOW WOW!!! This is…

What should I even say about this anymore? Love how he takes the history of the country I was born in (Germany) so very seriously…but yeah, I saw how seriously he takes it all looking at the portrayal of Hux in TLJ… and his 0% self-reflection is of course ever present. He is truly the worst mixture of privilege, arrogance and ignorance.

“Only sexist fanboys actually hate TLJ”

Awesome article!

“If Rian just comes out and admits he’s never seen Star Wars, at least half of The Last Jedi’s flaws will be explained. If he continues to claim he’s seen Star Wars, though, he’s mostly just outing himself as a bad writer.”

Conspiracy Theory: Rian Johnson Has Never Seen ‘Star Wars’ In His Life

most likely an unpopular star wars opinion rose tico deserved a better star wars movie

I love the idea of her.

Here we have a woman who:

  • is a Resistance member and supporter, but she works in the bowels of a ship as an engineer and doesn’t really see front-line battle
  • despite considering herself a Background Player (and a major fangirl of the Main Characters), is dragged into the escapades of her favorite MC due to circumstances
  • isn’t a British Caucasian Brunette

This could’ve been a great chance for a really fun character who doesn’t really know how to fight but uses her wits and technical know-how to get out of sticky situations, simultaneously being kind of like whenever Ms. Marvel (the current one in Marvel Comics) would meet the Avengers with how she geeks out over the big names in the Resistance. She would’ve been this funny/geeky/cool girl.

Instead, however, we got a character who:

  • Is entirely involved in an utterly pointless plotline
  • Appears inconsistent/foolish in her actions/motivations (she starts off being mad at Finn for trying to protect Rey over the Resistance as a whole, even choosing to bring this up awkwardly later in the film as if to guilt him over it… but when he’s ready to sacrifice himself at the end, she opts to protect him over the Resistance as a whole – then acts like this ‘protect one person you care about above the entire remaining Resistance!’ idea is something he needs to be told/taught?).
  • Delivers some of the worst dialogue/most awkward/most inane lines in the movie and series (”I don’t know if it’s good luck yet”) (”NOW it’s worth it.”) (”…by saving what we love!”)
  • Is introduced as the sister of a character who dies in the opening battle, but this literally seems to do nothing other than make her emotionally attached to this one necklace?

Like… I think Kelly Marie Tran deserves a TON of credit for feeling so likable in the moment that I often forgot/ignored how dumb Rose was being until I walked out of the theater.

She really did deserve better. Still does.

Which, by the way, there is no reason in this galaxy or the next for rose to call Finn a “dummy”.

Even if it’s joking, that is beyond inappropriate. Some people are so heroic that it’s rude to even joke about them being otherwise, okay? Especially when they’ve had an abusive past and have watched actual “dummies” be thrown by the wayside and denied basic human decency.

It’s just plain rude and not cute or affectionate at all, especially when she’s already violently assaulted him without apology or even acknowledgement. It’s part of a toxic pattern in the relationship and I hate it.

Exactly. Well put. I can’t even imagine Rey jokingly calling him that. Because it’s simply inappropriate and rude.

Rey adores Finn in every way and Finn adores Rey, and THAT is what a healthy relationship looks like. I hate Finnrose even as representation of interracial relationships because Finn never seems particularly into Rose, which is such a contrast to his longing for Rey and reinforces the narrative that WOCs are not particularly desirable or cherishable compared to white women. Any character played by someone as beautiful and lovable as Kelly Marie Tran deserves to be worshipped and treasured by her love interest, not portrayed as a violently jealous woman who assaults and insults a guy for thinking about another woman.

RJ: Men always run after women in movies and annoy them and mistreat them and then they kiss them without warning. People think that’s really sexist! So to turn it into feminism…. I WILL HAVE A WOMAN DO THAT TO A MAN!  Solution found! Sexism is over! I’m a geniusssss….

Me: No. No you’re not.

So FinnRose is abusive under Rian’s writing. Switching genders won’t change the fact that the kind of treatment (Finn receives) is still awful.

Imagine if it had been Rose the one who got tasered and mocked for worrying about a friend. I guarantee you people wouldn’t hesitate on hating Finn.

This was my answer to the OP which ended up on my main bc they turned out to be a R*ylo who has me blocked. The original post came to my dash through a hipsterish music blog run by a white woman,… *le sigh*

Liondick really doesn’t get feminism, does he?

Antis post this hate edit with changed gender. And when they’re doing this shit it isn’t transphobic?

No, it is not transphobic.

Rian Johnson is not transgender. He is not a trans man. He is a cisgendered man. It would be transphobic to call him a woman if he were a trans man, but he isn’t.

Hope that helps!

WHAT IS THIS

Hell

How do you be transphobic to a cis person?

jj abrams: had the incredibly hard task of making the first sw live action movie since 2005, continuing the story over 30 years after ROTJ, and making an interesting and compelling movie that everyone would enjoy, even the notorious group of annoying prequel hating fans that still rail on the prequels after nearly 20 years. he succeeded beyond anyones expectations, and now tfa is considered to be one of the best star wars movies ever by many. didn’t make a documentary about himself and how brilliant he was

gareth edwards: had the very hard task of directing the very first sw anthology movie, who’s plot was based off ONE SENTENCE in the opening crawl of a new hope, had to deal with reshoots and other issues during production, yet managed to make a great star wars movie and a wonderful addition to the star wars universe. didn’t make a long documentary about how he’s such a genius and how it was so hard being so talented and amazing

rian johnson: made undoubtably the worst star wars movie to ever exist, and one of the worst movies of all time, completely shit on the entire sw franchise and the sw fandom, ruined and butchered practically every single character in the movie, disrespected established canon and threw continuity out the window, treated all the women and poc in the movie like fucking shit, and also supports and ships one of the most abusive and toxic pairings in the sw fandom. DID make a documentary about how amazing and talented he is, how it was such a daunting task to ruin the sw franchise and how genius he is for destroying the story and characters we love

attackfish:

While Poe has had fairly few sexual partners, he has in fact literally slept with the entire Resistance.  Space is tight, hours are weird, and people frequently fall into whatever bed is closest.  He can confirm that Pava snores, the general kicks, and one of the medics is the most obnoxious sleep cuddler in the galaxy.
