Darth Vader’s real successor in the sequel trilogy is Phasma, not Kek lol Redpill. She’s the one who has Vader’s intimidation factor, his mystery, his ruthlessness, and just all around coolness.

So when will Star Wars fandom stop defending Lando the traitor/Imperial sympathizer? He’s worse than Hux.
I mean Lando Calrissian, fashion icon, is certainly worse at being an imperial/FO sympathizer than Huuurk, given that Lando single-handedly blew up the second Death Star while Fux merely lost Starkiller Base through incompetence. Lando is worse at being a traitor too, since he risked his life to save the man he was forced to hand over to Vader, while Hiccup colluded in the cold-blooded murder of his own father.
So you got me there, anon. Lando Calrissian, fashion icon, is definitely worse at being a fascist and traitor than Armpit Tux. But then again hardly anyone can beat Greasy Ginger Weasel, Jr. at being a shitstain on humanity, so what can you do.
I only finished the first 10% of the phasma novel but there’s this one thing surprises me and i have to say it right now : this book neither idolizes the first order nor excuses the first order’s actions from their point of view to say ~the good people also did bad things and bad people aren’t always bad~. as a person who hesitated to read this book because of first order/empire glorification bullshit, i’m pretty shook?
there is a character who works for the first order, who believes what he’s doing is right, but then the book also explains why that character is wrong because the lead character is from the resistance. there is a clear divide between good and evil… so far. it’s good.
I thought the book did an excellent job of deconstructing the First Order and revealing its rotten core, actually. I think the utter ruthlessness and selfishness of Phasma’s character is simply a mirror of the First Order, because… (spoilers below the cut, in case you haven’t finished the book and plan to)
SPOILERS BELOW
the real conflict isn’t that Phasma is an abuser, serial backstabber, and murderer. There are and always have been people like that, and the only question is whether their communities catch them out and stop them or let them into the higher reaches of power. The First Order utterly fails in this regard because Phasma’s selfish and murderous actions are known, condoned, and shielded by the leadership of the First Order.
The true rot, then, the real reason Phasma is dangerous, is in the First Order. The problem is that people like Phasma and also the two Huxes are not checked but encouraged in their immoral behavior, continuing to rise in the ranks over people like Cardinal who honestly believe in the supposed ideals of the FO.
This shows that the ideals of the First Order are a lie, much as Phasma’s constructed identity as a dedicated and flawless soldier is a lie. Much like Brendol Hux lied when he said he wanted equality and justice, and then promptly committed mass murder on the people he speechified about helping.
The First Order is nothing but an exploitative fiefdom of unscrupulous backstabbers who have no principles or morals whatsoever, held up by gaslighting its more sincere followers into believing it to be the ultimate good. And that is why, I fervently hope, it’s going to burn to the ground when its own supersoldiers rise up against it. Now that would be poetic justice.
I know JJ isn’t everyone’s favourite but I’m pretty relieved he’s taking over Ep 9. This idea of every film having a different director and writer always seemed idiotic to me. Having the guy who set everyinhg in motion wrap everything up makes sense to me.
JJ championed John Boyega, gave us Finn, Rey and Finn’s dynamic,
made Rey Luke’s daughterand set up Finn to be Force sensitive. And since it’s the final film he can’t inflict more mystery box crap on us.I’m pretty hopeful about the ST right now.
“Relieved” exactly describes my reaction, too. Look, I don’t expect a cinematic masterpiece. I’m sure I’ll find plenty to be annoyed with in JJ’s Episode IX. It could even be a piece of shit, but at least it won’t be a fascist-glorifying piece of shit. I also have a lot more hope for Finn, Rey, and Poe getting their due than have under any other director (e.g. Rian Johnson). To me the ST is JJ’s vision and I’m happy that he’ll be the one to close it out.
I cannot wait to see Finn get angry. Finn who was raised to do one thing and got nothing to fight for, who was driven by fear and is now facing the person he was once obligated to obey to and call “captain”. I can’t wait for John to give a performance way above the standards of blockbusters movies and remind us once again why he’s a star and the most promising actor of his generation. I can’t wait for him to destroy, to burn the first order from the inside, wearing their uniform and using their weapon and turning it against them, getting his well-deserved revenge and taking a step further in his quest for his own identity. I can’t wait for him to defy the organisation that took him away from his family and stole everything from him, tried to turn him into something that wasn’t human and had no sense of self. I can’t wait for him to be the triumphant hero he’s going to be, the spark that will light the fire that will burn the first order down.
So what’s the plan if Finn gets the shaft again after tlj? No more Star Wars?
Here’s the thing Finn didn’t get shafted in The Force Awakens. Last I checked Finn had majority of the lines in TFA (178) followed by Rey (157) then Han (153). Finn was the central character and the story’s progression. None of the events in TFA would’ve happened without Finn.
So no Finn wasn’t sidelined in TFA and he probably won’t get sidelined in TLJ. But fandom will continue the disrespect no matter. So I’m here for my fav till the end.
Also JJ the original Finn stan is coming baaaaack for ep ix!
