Friendly Reminder that the Head of Continuity of LFL Has Repeatedly Said that Han and Leia Were Not Bad or Neglectful Parents

ewokkey:

Pablo Hidalgo: “For whatever reason – I felt the need to get roped in on – is the immediate assumption regarding Kylo’s disposition, about Kylo being a villain is that, ‘it’s an indictment of Han and Leia as parents’. I don’t believe that and so then I get dragged into that conversation and I realize like, ‘I need to be careful’, because I might be taking away someone’s speculation about Han and Leia – about exactly everything that happened. But at the same time I feel it important to say, ‘It’s not because they’re bad parents. You know, sometimes bad people just happen, you know?‘” (September 16, 2016)

From the canon Visual Dictionary, written by Pablo: “After the Galactic Civil War, Han Solo’s life took unexpected turns as he became husband to an influential New Republic politician, a family man, and — for a time — a successful racing pilot.”

(Also confirms Han had no role in setting up the New Republic (he resigns his General commission in the Aftermath trilogy, contradicting Adam’s comments that Han neglected Ben in favour of the New Republic).

Family Man Definition:

Macmillan Dictionary: a family man a man who likes spending time at home with his wife or partner and children

Cambridge Dictionary: a family man who has a wife and children, or who enjoys spending a lot of time with them

American Heritage Dictionary: a family man is a man devoted to his family
Collins English Dictionary: a family man is a man who has a partner and children, especially one who’s devoted to his family

Merriam Webster: a family man is a man who has a wife and children, especially a man who enjoys spending a lot of time with his wife and children

Pablo Hidalgo: “[But Abrams and Driver saying in the documentary that Han and Leia were absent parents?] Or that’s what Kylo felt about it. There’s a difference. And more to it. The story hasn’t been told. There’s years to go.” (April 1, 2016)

“It’s funny how people have completely different reads on what is said in that doc [about Han and Leia’s parenting of Ben]. I don’t think that’s the whole picture.” (April 7, 2016)

“[Career women can’t be good mothers idea needs to go back to the 1950s and die!] Which is why that’s not the reason [for Ben’s fall to the dark side], despite blogs’ insistence it is.” (April 10, 2016)

“Does Kylo strike anyone as the type to take personal responsibility? Of course he blames everyone.” (April 10, 2016)

“I’m not saying [Han and Leia are] perfect. But ‘women can’t have career & family’ or ‘Han never grew up” aren’t great ideas.‘” (April 10, 2016)

“[Carrie Fisher also said Leia & Han neglected their son. Who’s word do we take on this, JJs & actors or yours?] Or you can wait till the story is done. That is an option, you know.” (September 19, 2016)

i can’t wait for jj to make finnrey canon officially

Seriously. I can’t wait for JJ to come back and just have Finn and Rey kiss already like it’s so obviously gonna happen idk why people deny it. The same guy who made Spock and Uhura a thing? Please.

It’s obvious JJ’s a huge fan of Finn and a huge fan of Finn and Rey as a pair. He literally says that Rey FALLS for Finn, and tells us that they are “now forever bonded.” And don’t forget Rey not only falls for him after first meeting him, but ADORES him in the end. They canonically find each other attractive and have canon feelings for each other.

Also, NO CENTRAL ROMANCE in TLJ? Wow, you figure they wouldn’t say that if Kylo and Rey were destined to be.

But the fact that Finn and Rey are separated but still thinking about each other according to both John Boyega and Rian Johnson? I wonder why there can’t be a central romance in a movie in which the two love birds (Finn and Rey?) spend most of it apart?

Bruh, even a damn book on stormtroopers says that Finn loves Rey, and Finn still wants to go off with Rey. I can’t wait for episode IX. I’m honestly so chill at this point I can’t wait lol.

Also, for those people who think Kylo and Rey are gonna team up, then why is Snoke seen torturing Rey at the same time Kylo’s leading an attack on the Resistance?

Huh, almost like Kylo straight up manipulates Rey emotionally, only to, idk, betray her in the end (something a villain on an “INVERSE HERO’S JOURNEY” WOULD DO”). Leaving her to be tortured on the same ship that…wait for it, FINN happens to be on? Wow.

And then Finn and Rey escape together and end up on Crait? TOGETHER AT THE END? AND THEN JJ ABRAMS COMES BACK RIGHT AFTER THAT?

To sum things up –

-Finn and Rey are still the most likely romance, but they spend time apart to grow before reuniting as stronger characters. They most likely reunite on and escape from Snoke’s Ship together and fight together on Crait.

-Kylo Ren isn’t saving Rey from Snoke. He leaves her there with him and continues to attack the Resistance.  Again, he most likely manipulates her emotionally and feeds into her doubts to lure her to him. He is not only on “an inverse hero’s journey,” but also “a villain trying to find his place in villaindom.”

-There will likely be a time skip after TLJ, this time leaving Finn and Rey together this time. Plopping them into the hands of JJ Abrams, the same guy who made Spock and Uhura a couple despite some backlash, and will gladly make Finn and Rey canon as well.

Thanks for reading!

Idk why y’all would think a stormtrooper rebellion is in any way the same as a Kale rom redemption arc lmao. One group was taken from birth and conditioned to live and die by the First Order. While the other…turned to Snoke in his quest for power and spat on any chance of redemption when he killed his father. And is actively rejecting the call to the light side, as you see in TFA. So like…let’s not go ahead and act as though stormtroopers rebelling and making the choice to say no. And getting that choice at all is the same as a white man being redeemed for killing countless people in his quest for power.

Also while I’m on the subject it is not at all easy to throw off years of conditioning lmao. Idk why I have to say this but no it isn’t simple. That is why it’s so amazing that Finn did it in TFA. That is part of the reason why Finn is such an amazing character. You can’t just look at people who’ve been forced into a system of abuse and tell them “just say no. It’s easy.” What the fuck is wrong with you.

A storyline like Finn’s. Like the stormtroopers themselves. Is powerful. It’s amazing. When treated with the nuance and importance that it deserves. Don’t try to tell me that this kind of storyline, this theme of rejecting your abusers and getting back the power to choose is in any way comparable to redeeming the so far unredeemable (and who doesn’t want to be redeemed!!) white man.
