On the other hand: John got so much racist shit thrown his way just for being IN Star Wars. I don’t want to think about how much more he might have to endure if he kisses a white woman on screen. Daisy would get shit, too–the reactions to her Instagram postings are a good indicator–but the brunt of the rage will be focused on John and possibly JJ. Fortunately John has shown the fortitude to show grace and humor in the face of hatred, but he really shouldn’t have to.

i love two ships equally, although i don’t really participate in their tags. but because of the fandom i like finnrey more. don’t get me wrong, i know some cool finnpoe people and many finnrey shippers ship finnpoe as well. but you can feel finn is respected so much more in the finnrey fandom and since the relationship established between finn and rey in tfa is ignored or undervalued in the star wars fandom, it feels good to stay in the finnrey fandom, knowing that at least in this place, their love for each other is appreciated. the finnrey fandom feels much safer. not to mention that so many finnpoe contents are racist.

(of course, that doesn’t mean the finnrey fandom is perfect either. i saw some finn fans who don’t get involved in shipping at all because they are tired of both finnrey and finnpoe, or they are just not interested in shipping at all.)

Firstly, all I ever said against Kataang comes from a place of deep, all-encompassing love for Aang. Partially because there are already enough people who discussed it from Katara’s side of things, but mostly because Aang deserved so much better than what happened to him in canon.

(He never actually grieved for his people! There was supposed to be a whole fourth season in which he comes to terms with the sheer horror of having everything he ever knew and loved destroyed! And people keep discrediting this because of shipping! Why! Do! You! Hate! My! Favourite! Boy! So! Much! He died thinking that his already middle-aged, childless son is the last airbender! He! Deserved! So! Much! Better!)

Secondly, I’m sorry you found my comment hurtful, it was never, nor will it ever be my intention to cause anyone pain, but please try to understand it from my point of view:

Kataang shippers go around lifting their OTP on a pedestal, calling it cute, and wholesome, and healthy, and how they’re perfect for each other, because Aang is so Good™ and Pure™ and Morally Infallible™ and he’d counter Katara’s Inner Darkness™ or whatever, and then turn around and say things like: “Die Zutara c*unt/r*tard, Kataang is canon!” and “I’ll find you and rape you Zutara bitch” and “I want to watch you getting chocked to death and rape your corpse Zutara slut”, which are all actual anons I or other Zutara shippers received, and see nothing wrong with this.

This is a to me incomprehensible lack of self-awareness and I will therefore stand by my comment.

So what is their end play? Their ship isn’t happening and there is a possibility there will be a subtle romance between Rey and Finn. What happens then? I know all bets are off if Rey ends the movie without any romance, even if she literally kills Kylo, but if Rey is shown being romantic with Finn or Poe (unlikely, but just throwing it out there), what do these fuckbags say at that point? They were thisclose to branding Finn a rapist for holding Rey’s hand but backed off that. I’m concerned.

The Avatar: The Last Airbender fandom is still dealing with Zutarans who spread conspiracy theories about how their ship was actually canon but the head writer who supposedly shipped it was overruled, how there was a planned fourth season that never aired, etc.

They also bash disfavored characters nonstop for daring to get in their ship’s way and have been known to make Holocaust jokes about the male lead.

Mostly for shipper behavior, and other than the abysmal way a few loud shippers act (quite a few Reylos are disappointed zutarans from what I can see and they’ll be disappointed again lmao) Zutara is nothing like Reylo. Season 3 Zutara, in fact, has a lot in common with Finnrey and I should do that parallel post one of these days. Season 1 Zutara is more like Reylo but Reylo is still a LOT creepier.
