Han, Chewie, and the kid, were preparing the Falcon and getting ready to leave D’Qar for Starkiller base. While they all were making preparations, Chewie nudged him and motioned to the worn and slightly ripped clothes Finn was wearing.

Han and Chewie wondered why Finn hadn’t changed his clothes at all while they were with the Resistance. They were starting to look on their way out after their last scuffle with the First Order.

Han recognized that Finn had still been wearing his Stormtrooper clothes under the Resistance jacket. It was hard to miss. Han himself had disguised as a Stormtrooper with Luke all those many years ago, so he knew roughly what they looked like under the armor. 34 years hadn’t changed that much in the Stormtrooper dress code apparently.

Sighing, Han waved at Chewie and told him he’d handle it. He searched through the Falcon trying to find some extra clothes for Finn. The kid was risking his life trying to help their asses and save his friend, or maybe she was his girlfriend? whatever she was, the least Han thought he could do was make sure Finn had something clean to change into after everything was said and done.

Just as they were about to take off, Han gruffly handed Finn an outfit he had found tucked away in the Falcon. Lando had gotten it for him decades ago, saying something about him needing to update his wardrobe.

For what?! Classics never go out of style. The kid might like it though. It seemed more his style with the Solo touch, and it had the Lando seal of approval.

Finn looked down at the clothes and shuffled awkwardly, bitting down on the inside of his cheek. The only thing he has ever been given was the armor he was expected to die in, and Han was giving him something that was just his and no one else’s.

He looked up at Han, doing his best to stay composed. “Thanks, Solo,” Finn said softly, hoping his voice didn’t crack.

It did, but Han wasn’t going to call him on it.

Han smirked, patting the kid on the shoulder, “No problem, big deal. C’mon, let’s go save the day.”

Finn smiled back and tucked the cloths safety away. He’d wear them after the mission. He’d have to thank Han properly for this. It wasn’t like he had any money, or anything, but maybe he could clean the Falcon! The old thing looked like it needed a wash…and pait…and new parts…

Maybe he’d talk to Solo about getting a new ship.

Post TLJ

After the Falcon sped away from Crait and the rest of the Resistance were finally settling into whatever section of the ship wasn’t infested with Porgs, Finn, who had retrieved the clothes Han had given him, had found his own little secluded space of the ship to be alone.

It hadn’t taken long for Finn to find the clothes. He’d left them in the same compartment he had found the blanket he had given to Rose earlier.

Everyone was so busy. Poe dealing with the news from Black Squadron, Rey reading the Jedi texts. Finn just wanted to be alone for a chance and think.

Finn held the clothes tightly in his hands as memories of the brief time had shared with Han played in his mind. Han’s death was the memory that kept repeatedly flashing in his mind.

Everything had happened so fast. From Starkiller to Crait felt like it had happened I’m in a heartbeat, and Finn still felt like he was still there, laying face down in the face. It was at that moment of all the emotions came at once and Finn felt the soldier’s mask he wore crack.

Finn slammed his fist into a wall, barley feeling the throbbing pain that coursed through his knuckles as they made contact. How could that bastard kill his own father? How could he just have something that so many people didn’t have, and just throw it all away?

Holding the clothes closer, the first real gift he had ever gotten that was his alone, Finn felt his throat choke out a sob as his legs weakened and he let himself slide down to the floor.

“Thanks, Solo,” Finn whispered into the clothes, “Thanks.”

A sad little fic on how I think Finn got his clothes for EP IX.

Thanks Satan.

@errrbodylovesfinn Looks like I didn’t have to write it myself.

Okay this whole thing fucked me all the way up, but this part in particular… like…

The only thing he has ever been given was the armor he was expected to die in

Translation: It can’t be a super-important scene if characters of color are central to the action and also I need to soothe my fear that my mass murdering patricidal fave is not in fact the male lead of the franchise.

This is also why the whole “we support Loan Tran” rings so freaking hollow from this crowd. Because guess who else isn’t in yesterday’s photos?

Yeah that would be Loan. Looks like Daisy isn’t there either. (It may or may not be her stunt double in the pics. It’s so damn grainy it’s impossible to tell, but it definitely isn’t Daisy.)

So while whatever is going on in the scene shot yesterday on that hillside, Rose and Rey might be off somewhere doing something together.

Which would not only mean that it just got increasingly likely that Rose will be more than a small, tangential role in IX. (I’m glad JJ included her and I see it as auspicious that he decided to do that at all, but I’ll remain worried about the treatment and plot significance of all the characters of color until I actually see the movie.) Furthermore it might mean we’ll get a Star Wars movie who not only passes the Bechdel test (which like half of them so far doesn’t do) but do so more than by the skin of its teeth (which is the rest of them).

But instead they go and make it about the white, genocidal Nazi :/ I am unsurprised but this is why I can’t take the “we support Loan Tran” claim serious from most of that crowd. There might a few legit supporters among them, but the majority doesn’t give a flying fuck about Loan or any of the other actors of color, unless they can use them as support for their ship.

Classic racists.

I’ve gotta say, while reylows are being tiresome as usual I am loving how fragile and salty they are about Finn and Poe’s prominence in the released or leaked material for IX. Poe had better not touch the Falcon or Rey! This isn’t an important scene because Kyle Ron isn’t in them! The outfit means Poe is actually Gaston! Poe is the true villain and extremist!

I love watching them shoveling racist bullshit over their terror that Finn and Poe are the actual leads and not their white fave. The smell may be awful, but it’s entertaining to watch them scurry in fear.

there is literally no reason to hate finn with so much animosity that you can’t wait to write about him being mauled to death fuck reylos

rootbeergoddess:

This is why I am so confused about the hatred towards Finn.

Finn has done anything to warrant this much hate. It doesn’t make sense. What has he done? The only thing that you can even consider bad is him trying to leave the others. That is it and he goes back on that as soon as Rey as in trouble. He’s kind, brave, selfless and he cares about people. It’s obvious that he cares about Poe and Rey. Hell, even Chewy likes him. But people want to smear him for no good reason.

Again, what has Finn done? Literally, nothing. It’s like hating a kitten.

List of Finn’s unforgivable crimes:

  1. Existing as a Black man
  2. Having a deep and heartfelt bond with Rey, something reylows believe Kylo is entitled to no matter how badly he mistreats her
  3. Being exactly what people want their white “hero” to be–courageous, honorable, fundamentally good, intellegent, complex, intriguing–and being better than their pale imitation Benny Solo in every conceivable way

An AU

Rey Dameron anxiously awaits her brother’s return. When he is nowhere to be found, she flies to Jakku after him. She doesn’t find Poe, but she finds his droid, chasing a man wearing his jacket. The man, who calls himself Finn, explains that he rescued Poe from the First Order only for Poe to die in a crash. Rey is furious but has no time to mourn because her ship is destroyed, forcing her to run with Finn and BB-8 in a junk ship that she recognizes as the one General Leia always told her about: the Millennium Falcon. After escaping Jakku, Rey apologizes for being angry with Finn, since it wasn’t his fault Poe died. Who should they run into next but Han Solo, the owner of the Millennium Falcon! Han recognizes the name Dameron and agrees to help them. But first they have to deal with two gangs Han owes money to. Rey, being more experienced in dogfighting than using a blaster, needs a little help from Finn, but both of them are able to fend off the gangs, thanks to an ingenious plan by Rey to release the rathtars (pretending that that was the plan all along and not something far less reckless.) Chewie is wounded, but Rey has had experience as a pilot since her brother taught her to fly. When they get to Takodana, Finn tries to leave. Rey begs him to stay, if only for the sake of Poe’s memory, but Finn says he’s done all he can and nothing he can do will bring Poe back. Rey and Han have everything covered, they don’t need him. Rey, crushed, watches him leave, then follows voices into the basement, discovering a box with what she recognizes as a lightsaber– but whose? When she touches it, she has a vision and sees a man wielding it. The dark figure he’s battling, the droid he lays his hand on– his robotic hand– make her realize this lightsaber is Luke’s. Realizing she’s tapped into the Force, she realizes just how desperately the Resistance needs the map. She runs off in search of Finn to tell him what she’s discovered, but is captured by Kylo Ren, who takes the lightsaber. Finn hears screaming and sees a vision in the sky of a red flame quenching stars and planets. Finn duels a trooper with a riot control baton using a pole he finds and manages to knock the trooper into a wall, not realizing he used the Force to do so. He sees Kylo Ren’s ship and immediately assumes (senses) Rey’s on it. He goes to D’Qar with the Resistance and finds out Poe is alive! He tells him Poe what happened. The Resistance plans a mission to rescue Rey and destroy Starkiller Base, using Finn’s intel. Meanwhile, Rey escapes. She runs into Finn and Han and goes with them to set charges to weaken the reactor. They witness Kylo Ren murder Han Solo and chase him into the forest to confront him. Rey Force-pulls Luke’s saber from Kylo Ren and duels him, but the saber is knocked from her hand. While Rey defends herself with the Force, Finn picks up the saber and uses it to distract Kylo Ren. Kylo Ren Force-throws Rey into a tree and duels Finn, wounding him. Rey comes to Finn’s rescue and picks up the saber, dueling Kylo Ren and wounding him. She goes to Finn’s lifeless body and Chewie picks them up in the Falcon. The medics tend to Finn while Poe promises his sister he’ll look after him. Rey Dameron flies off in the Falcon to find Luke Skywalker in hopes that he will help her understand her abilities more fully and restore hope to the fight.

PS– this AU means Poe would be Finn’s brother in law when Finn and Rey end up together, which Finn would be ecstatic about.

L.J.: Also anon submitter has said Rey would be a Latina in this AU. I nominate María Mercedes Coroy (link).

Well obvs if Rey was a Dameron she’d be Latino too and cast as such.

lj-writes:

Anyone have thoughts about this? I mean maybe I’m not one to talk, I did recast Rey as Kawennáhere Jacobs in my alternate sequel trilogy after all, but I’ve also seen racebends of Rey being pointed out as racist.

image

@dasakuryo Good point! For Afro-Latina Letitia Wright (Guyanese British) would work like you said, and she has experience being the headstrong little sister too XD

My personal favorite though is the other suggestion you made in chat, Guatemalan indigenous actress María Mercedes Coroy.
