These defenses of Manson are eerily familiar

These are from the notes of a post that showed newspapers telling Charles Manson, the recently deceased cult leader and mass murderer, to burn in hell among other things.

Warning: the comments screenshotted below defend (or contextualize, equivocate, whatever) and empathize with a mass murderer and abuser. You may find them angering and upsetting. There are also mentions of antiblack racism, a swastika, pedophilia, and of course death and violence and CHARLES FUCKING MANSON.

(For the record, it is untrue that the Manson Family were trying to get revenge on pedophiles. Their objective was to start a race war by blaming the murders on Black people.)

3. Technically he didn’t kill anyone

4. But they were abused (and the victims probably deserved it)

(Again, the above statement about the Family’s motivation and the accusation against Sharon Tate are baseless. Roman Polanski is a pedophile piece of shit, but how about we not use his crime to smear his murdered wife.)

5. He’s bad but others are worse

@ the reylo who wanted to know what this had to do with their ship (i saw it in my notes but it was since deleted or smth? idk): I have heard honest to God every one of these sentiments from shippers. My poor son was abused! He killed only 2 people with his own hands! Finn killed more people! The Rebellion/Resistance are just as bad! He’s not responsible for the actions of the organization where he holds a high-ranking leadership position and answers directly to its Supreme Leader!

So yeah, the “logic” people use to excuse mass murderers, whether real or fictional, are eerily similar. Hence the title of the post.
