I have repeatedly stated that the “perfect and all-knowing woman exists to teach wayward man” is actually a very regressive and sexist trope, and it intersects with racism when the men in question are MOCs.
This is the point. This trope falls apart in several ways. 1.) the storylines of female characters shouldn’t be about fixing men 2.) female characters shouldn’t shine because the men around them are stupid but because the female character is brilliant 3.) white women lecturing stupid MOC is racist shit.
This nonsense is the worst white feminist, fake feminist crap. It’s based on the first tries to somehow make women shine but still bases their entire storylines on men and forgets that women can be brilliant on their own without having to dumb the men around them down. It’s this idea that a women among smart men can’t shine and that if a brilliant woman meets a stupid man it’s her job to help him. Why??
And if you then take into consideration that two MOC were turned into racist stereotypes to achieve this storytelling, there is truly nothing to salvage.
What a hot take! I’d love to print it out and use it as toilet paper!
@dasakuryo It’s another reason why this tweet isn’t even worth picking apart. I guess fangirljeanne, like RJ, can’t see anything more than a macho misogynist stereotype in Poe.
Let’s do a little recap of Amy Schumer’s racism, okay?
Amy Schumer joked about men of color being more likely to sexually harass vs YT men.
In her 2012 show “Mostly Sex Stuff,” Amy Schumer insulted African women’s names, called them “wild,” and performed a racist impersonation of Black folks.
Amy suggested that Latina women were “crazy” during the 2015 MTV Video Awards.
Once, Schumer said, “I used to date Hispanic guys, but now I prefer consensual” implying that all Hispanic men are rapists – a suggestion that mirrors the racism of Donald Trump.
In her latest stunt, Amy parodied Beyonce’s “Formation” music video which was originally a commentary on race and police brutality. She used a moment that celebrated Blackness and turned it into a whitewashed opportunity to make cash.
And then, someone sent me this tweet below of Amy’s anti-Asian racism.
But aye!! She’s a feminist, right? She’s down for the cause, right? She talks about body positivity and all that YT feminist jazz while she shits on POC, right?
Funny. Very funny.

The Love Life Of An Asian Guy/FB
#WhiteFeministsGottaGo
don’t forget that she raped a drunk guy and tried to make it sound like it was just a weird encounter
Reblogging this because Amy Schumer’s new movie is all over our dashes so this should be too
So the Mary Sue is back doing their usual thing… pretending to LOVE John but… wanting him gone from Pacific Rim … like don’t get me wrong, I haven’t seen the first movie, I only know of how prominent Mako Mori’s role was in it… however, no… I don’t think they shouldn’t have included John’s character in the sequel.. they could’ve done something truly wild… make both of them the leads of PRU… ? Just a crazy suggestion from my side, I guess…. not involing any white men who can’t act ….
The Mary Sue back on its white feminist bullshit. Good job, fellow Russian spies, for hacking them into running that TLJ-critical article.
i’m so mad bc I googled my aesthetic “lesbian librarian” hoping for some cool fashion pics and all I got was pages of porn links and lesbophobic memes (because apparently those exist lmao)
the only thing that rectifies it slightly is that I found a still from an intel commercial of lucy liu in a fancy dress on some woman’s lap
This MLIS degree will be worth every penny it looks like.
Um hello hi yes I paid $30k+ for my MLS & worked in libraries for 2+ years not counting spending my entire life volunteering in them & Lucy Liu never sat on my lap I would like a refund pls
GIVE IT TIME
This Librarian is now Gay.
Um… y’all realize the ad is putting Lucy Liu in the place of a laptop (lap…top… get it?), literally objectifying her, right? The caption itself says “in your lap,” did all the blood rush to your nether regions and leave your higher brain functions running on empty or what? This is the same way images of women have been used in advertising since forever, with an extra heaping of racism because Asians are Smart I guess, but here you are squeeing over it because omg Gay!!!
It’s talking about movies and whatnot. It’s implying watching movies on their laptop would be like having the person acting in it actually there.
Does that matter or is it still racist @lj-writes ?
Not being hostile or anything, this is a legit question.
The juxtaposition of having a person in one’s literal lap while advertising a laptop computer is still there, made grosser by the intimate pose and the implied availability and happiness of the Lucy Liu character to be in a stranger’s lap. I mean, would Tumblr be okay with this if it were a white guy who had a smiling Lucy Liu–juxtaposed with an object–in his lap, touching her?

Disclaimer I have not seen the movie but from what I know these are not weak women.
I’m so sick of the inequality.
It is clear and I am not talking about the pink stuff or cold hard shit (although that kind of bothers me too). This is about the angle and position of the camera.
See in the picture the photo is from below and up. This is an angle often used to make people look more powerful. In the picture with the women you can see the picture is taken slightly from above. An angle used most of the time to make someone look small and weak. So basically these pictures are sending out the message that men are strong and women are weak. Stereotypes I thought we could move past.
Naw.
This is strategic and done on purpose in a good way. Essence is a Black women’s magazine (where these pictures are from).
I don’t know if you’re Black or not, but Black women traditionally don’t get to be seen as soft, especially dark skinned Black women. This is fantastic from my point of view. I’ve also noticed that dark skinned Black women often only ever get black and white photos (so no pinks at all usually) and often without smiles and humor shown. There are some black and white photos from the shoot of these ladies that are shot differently, but this particular picture on the left is completely refreshing and unusual and kudos to Essence for shooting it.
If you are Black then we disagree on the shots. If you are not, there’s context missing for why this is actually a very powerful decision to shoot it this way. What is seen as weak or powerful for others, even other lighter skinned WoC, is not necessarily the same for darker skinned women.
There’s commentary to be had on the men’s angle too, but I’m not interested in having it right now.
Sorry my mistake. I see where you are coming from but I don’t necessarily agree mainly because I always tend to disregard the outside and focus on the inside.
I don’t mean to sound rude but I honestly don’t care that they are black. I don’t care what people are on the outside. Black skin, good for you. White skin, good for you. I never based my opinion on their skin color they have but rather on the content of their character.
Yet again I see where you are coming from I’m just saying that women are generally shot from above and men from below, and it just so happens to reinforce the norm that men are stronger than women.
I’m going to be honest, you are really downplaying how groundbreaking this is by ignoring their skin color. Precisely because they are Black and dark skinned is why your analysis is shit. You’re ignoring history out of some idea of how women are treated, but all women aren’t treated the same. What is groundbreaking for some is not for others. For White women, this photo isn’t amazing, but in context, it’s phenomenal. It’s okay if you don’t understand it, but you can’t impose your will and history on something you don’t understand. If you’re going to ignore race then you’re forfeiting the ability to judge the goodness of the photo and your analysis is really worthless. By the way, you are willing to ignore race, a social construct, but intent on recognizing how some women are shot in media. Gender is also a social construct. You don’t see the irony in recognizing how socially gender is impacted, but ignoring how race is? That’s really not ironic to you? Really?
By the way, there are photos from this set that are representative of what you want. This is just one photo in the mix.
Gonna keep a tally of messages I get from a) white feminists completely proving my point and b) people who think this comic proves feminism is worthless because I criticized one part of it. (Even despite me writing these words underneath the comic.) Then I’ll add them all up, see which column has more, and then drink myself to sleep either way.
Haha… this is why we can’t have nice things.
Rerun for those who could use it on today’s International Women’s Day.
