its times like these where i wish i didnt have most reylos blocked so i could see what they’re saying. the thing is, even if that stuff is happening, she still has a chance to apologize? her fic is disgustingly racist and its been brought up in the past and will continue to be brought up until she 1. acknowledges she’s being racist 2. apologizes for being racist 3. deletes her fic.
and yeah, i’ve been on this website long enough to know that when people are accused of things like racism they always threaten things like self-harm and suicide instead of just confronting their own behavior and becoming a better person.
heres a snippet of what the writer and her fellow reylos are sending to me tho so like? who cares if u got death threats babe join the club lmfaoo. and yes boo i too have clinical depression and anxiety and YET i havent threatened self-harm as a way to get out of consequences. fuck outta here with that mess. stop being an ugly violent racist and nobody will bother you! it’s not like you get hate mail for just existing like the rest of us. cry me a river.
despicaWhat J said. They do these things to us to really showcase their violent bigotry (antiblackness and islamophobia in J’s case) then turn right back around and cry victimhood. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if these were reylos sending her this shit so that they can really play their victim complex.
They are all fucking despicable.
It’s so telling, like practically a case study?? A white woman (op), an Asian woman (me), and a Black woman (@muslimfinn) all tear into a shitty racist fic. Guess which of them gets threats of violence, suicide bait, and Islamophobia in their inbox. I published both the critical asks I got in relation to this mess. They were annoying, disingenuous, and self-serving, sure, but NO ONE threatened me or was bigoted toward me. The difference in treatment is palpable.
And yeah, fuck off with hiding behind mental illness/RL issues. White women called on racism pull this shit all the time, weaponizing their perceived frailty to silence criticism and avoid accountability. Because obviously the people they hurt can’t have mental illness or other shit going on in their lives. Because everyone else are just dumb brutes with no real feelings and inner lives that matter. Because it’s not like racism, interpersonal and institutionalized, is devastating for the mental and physical health of Black people. I find myself agreeing more and more with the analysis that white supremacy is a form of socially accepted sociopathy (link) that frees too many white people from empathizing with Black people or indeed seeing them as full people at all.
DiAngelo addresses her book mostly to white people, and she reserves her harshest criticism for white liberals like herself (and like me), whom she sees as refusing to acknowledge their own participation in racist systems. “I believe,” she writes, “that white progressives cause the most daily damage to people of color.” Not only do these people fail to see their complicity, but they take a self-serving approach to ongoing anti-racism efforts:
“To the degree that white progressives think we have arrived, we will put our energy into making sure that others see us as having arrived.” Even the racial beliefs and responses that feel authentic or well-intentioned have likely been programmed by white supremacy, to perpetuate white supremacy. Whites profit off of an American political and economic system that showers advantages on racial “winners” and oppresses racial “losers.”
Yet, DiAngelo writes, white people cling to the notion of racial innocence, a form of weaponized denial that positions black people as the “havers” of race and the guardians of racial knowledge. Whiteness, on the other hand, scans as invisible, default, a form of racelessness.
“Color blindness,” the argument that race shouldn’t matter, prevents us from grappling with how it does.
@lj-writes This came across my dash and it brought to mind some of your angry Williams anons.
Oh my god I was thinking of them as I read and then I saw your comment 😂
[[This is Isaiah Hine’s high school presentation on white fragility. You’re not going to get a simpler explanation, in my opinion, so if you’re white you should really read this. Below are Isaiah’s notes on each slide.]]

What is White Fragility?
Robin DiAngelo is a professor at Westfield State University and author of What Does it Mean to Be White? Developing White Racial Literacy.
I’m sure you’ve all seen these ‘defensive moves’ in action before. “I didn’t mean anything by it” “I wasn’t trying to be offensive” “I have a black friend” “Not all white people”
People are often more worried about being called a racist than actually doing something racist. In America white people often don’t even have to consider race. They often think of themselves as “raceless” white is conditioned to be the norm and everyone else is considered “raced” or “colored”. White fragility allows white people to govern when and how race is discussed. White people expect to be educated on racism, and in a nice way.

Why Is It A Bad Thing?
White people never learn as a result and are allowed to continue saying and doing racist things. White people prefer to hear these things from other white people but because other white people don’t know enough about racism, they cycle continues. When people of color do things like the BLACKLIVESMATTER movement, many white peoples responses were “all lives matter” this is white fragility. Proclaiming that black lives matter does not inherently mean that other lives don’t. This statement is made because society continually shows us that black lives don’t matter in america and these are the lives that need the affirming. We already know that white lives matter, it doesn’t need to be stated. White people are very used to being the center of things and when they aren’t it makes them uncomfortable.

Why Does This Happen?
Most people don’t fully grasp the idea of systemic racism and that we live in a racist society that perpetuates racist ideas. We are socialized into white supremacy.
I know I’m probably not the only person who has noticed this but has anyone noticed that when a film is diverse or focuses on someone other than a white, cis, able-bodied, straight male, people want the film to fail?
I saw this with Wonder Woman and Black Panther specifically. I also remember seeing it with the Force Awakens. Like…films are notoriously white-centric. A vast chunk of film focuses on white males so why does it matter when a film doesn’t? Are white males really that fragile?
Mediocre white men know they don’t have anything going for them other than white maleness, so of course anything that doesn’t prioritize them is a threat.
See that guy up there looking at you like you’re the crown ruler of all fuck ups? See how super white he is? Well, that ruggedly handsome devil is me.
Yup…I’m white. If I was Adam in the Biblical tale of Adam and Ave, God wouldn’t have made me out of dust/dirt. He would have made me out of Cool Whip and vanilla beans. That’s just how white I am. So, that puts an end to the whole “reverse racism” thing, doesn’t it? I’m a white man making fun of white people. You just got M. Night Shyamalan’d up in this bitch.
Also, racism doesn’t work that way. If a person of colour tells us we look like mayonnaise or that we’re weird as fuck because we don’t use wash cloths, that’s not racism. There’s no built in oppression there. That’s just commentary. Being mocked isn’t being held down. It isn’t being systematically deemed “lesser” by an entire group of people over years and years and years. It’s not based on anything. For racism to work (for want of a better term) there has to be that oppression. That’s why white people are so good at being racist. Also, white people being called out as racists isn’t racist. A person of colour saying “White people ruined hip hop” or “White people always steal pieces of our culture” isn’t racist. It’s the other way around. Iggy Azalea is racist. White people trying to pass durags off as high fashion is racist.
That’s why people hate us. Because we’re the most racist people on Earth and yet we don’t even understand how racism works.
KILL ‘EM
OMG I LOVE YOU
When white people are done with.white peoples bullshit >>>>>>>>>
I always reblog this epic clapback, nothing more moving than a person acknowledging how then can affect change within their privilege. Anon’s silly ass got read from the table of contents to the index.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOST
“We’re the most racist people on earth and yet we don’t even know how racism works” yes slaaaay
I love everything about this post
This is what a woke white person is. As said above using his white privilege to address racism
🙂 yesssssssss
I am still amazed that someone actually typed out and sent the sentence, “I refuse to be accused of being racist when when there are actual awful people in the world who ARE racist. that is my human right.“
And a few lines down in the same message: “
I’m very hurt by the racism displayed by you, though.“ Ummmmm because the recipient evidently doesn’t enjoy this purported human right not to be called a racist…?
Bonus points because the whole boring-ass spiel was about freedom of speech. Freedom of speech, of course, is about the HUMAN RIGHT to silence people who call you racist.
Extra bonus points: A white woman sent the above to a Black woman. Because of course.
