literally in a movie where a white man that was already paralleled to Hitler slaps a black man that’s on his knees and another white man spends the entire movie manipulating someone and using her to literally take over the entire evil organization trying to take over the whole ass galaxy if you write an article about how the real bad guy was a Latino man trying to keep his people from dying because a total stranger wasn’t telling anyone what the plan is and people were dying you’re racist and a stupid asshole
There’s lots of talk about how Finn obviously has feelings for Rey (agreed!) but a lot of folks seem to equivocate re: Rey’s feelings toward Finn. Maybe this is because Finn’s the one who says something romantically coded (Boyfriend? Cute boyfriend?). But, as they say, actions speak louder than words 🙂
Throughout the film, Finn and Rey each display the same beats of emotional attachment to one another:
Finn grabs Rey’s hand to save her from the explosions/Rey offers Finn her hand to guide him out of Niima outpost.
They both circle each other being cute and complimentary
Finn asks Rey to come with him to the Outer Rim/Rey begs Finn not to go and is devastated when he leaves
Finn runs after Kylo Ren’s ship screaming Rey’s name/Rey runs after a Rathtar screaming Finn’s name.
Finn goes to Starkiller Base to save Rey/Rey fights Kylo Ren and runs back to save Finn
But there are things Rey does that Finn does not. Ways Rey looks at Finn. Physical contact and affection Rey initiates. Receipts (and gifs) below the cut.
It’s not feminism for white women to stand above men of color. It was not right for them to tase and slap Poe for stepping out of line even if he was out of character which his established characterization proves he was it’s not fair for white women act like his treatment is some
great feminist victory. Especially when he’s the only latinx character this trilogy that isn’t a villain.
White people, yes even white women, don’t understand what it’s like to have the only character you’re supposed to relate to treated like that. You’re white first and foremost and will never understand that
so no it’s not a great condemning of mansplaining.
It’s one man white sitting in a room going how can I punish this man for having brown skin oh, by having care about the other people under this white woman who he doesn’t know or have to really trust yet’s watch jerk all of them
around and have him tased for trying to save as many lives left in the resistance as he can and paint it as him being a gloryhound. Screw your liberal feminist attitude I’m tired of being stepped on and so is he
