I wonder what % of this god forsaken site I have blocked at this point.
I miss having a block count. It used to tell you how many people were on your block list and it made me happy. Now nothing makes me happy, there is only the void and the endless whispers.
I did a rough count and came up with 228. That’s fewer than I thought, since I’ve been reporting and blocking note-spamming bots every time I’m in the notes of a post.
But the notion that we might understand a person with the capacity for violence to also have the capacity for gentleness is downright laughable set against the contemporary backdrop of state violence committed against black men… . It’s a stark contrast that plays out all around us, the horrifying product
of a culture, of a media, and of social, economic, and political
structures that teach us to value white men more than any other kind of
human beings.
In the same month that Roof quietly ate his Burger King after killing
nine people, 15-year-old Dajerria Becton attended a Texas pool party and
got into a fight after some white kids reportedly told a black girl to
“go back … to Section 8” housing. When white cop Eric Casebolt arrived
on the scene, he slammed Becton to the pavement, grabbing her violently
by her braids. Later reports helped us understand that Casebolt had been
particularly stressed that day, having already attended to two suicide
calls. But Becton, the black teenager, was described by Fox News host
Megyn Kelly as “no saint,” for having not obeyed the officer. There was
little curiosity about Becton’s experience of having been held roughly
by her hair while wearing only a bathing suit, just the pressing
question about white-male psychology: What could this one-dimensional
black girl have done to make the multidimensional white man react in the
way that he did?
There should absolutely be some mysterious reason why Rey can’t kill Kylo. She can knock him out, defeat him for the moment but she can’t end him. And the only one who can should be Finn. and NO it’s not bc Rey’s in love with Kylo, you nasties, it should all be some crazy Force related mumbo jumbo!
Rey’s the Zuko in this narrative, at least in that narrow sense–Zuko passed on a clear chance to kill his asshole father Luke Ozai, saying that was Aang’s job as the Avatar. Rey herself in the novelization knew that it was not the will of the Force that she kill Kylo Ren (and no, she felt nothing for him lol). It would be cool if Finn is the Aang in this scenario who has the legitimacy and the will of the Force behind him to end Kylo Ren–or better yet, pull an actual Aang and strip the asshole of his Force powers. Remember how I keep raving about how Finn might be Force immune? Imagine if he could turn that on its head and take away another Force user’s powers…
this whole discussion about a Mulan life-action baffles me. Like… I love the fun with Mushu and all but? Why do we need a Disney remake of the movie when there is
a pretty much epic
beautiful
actually Chinese version
with great characters
and Mulan’s more accurate story
readily available???
Since 2009??
Well I know what I am watching now
UPDATE: I just watched this and I have so many emotions. Seriously, check this out
OOH! On my list!
i didnt know this existed!!! ok
I’ve failed all my followers for not letting them know about this immediately. I’m sorry you guys missed out.
Here is a link to watch it free online with English subtitles.
Just as a warning, it is a little violent, some horses are killed during the battles, and there is a scene where Wentai cuts open his wrist. It is a very good movie, I just finished watching it and would recommend everyone watch it.
I don’t trust this anon… I never saw that many antis against finnrose prior to TLJ because a lot of people wanted to wait and see what happened. I could be wrong, but the people that were usually hating finnrose simply because of racism were the people that hated that poc were included in the films to begin with. Finnreys were pretty okay with the ship until the movie’s actual release.
I didn’t see this in our circles – which of course are just some antis, we have to keep that in mind – either. Rather many were excited by Rose, wrote metas about her that went FAR beyond her being anyone’s love interest, and were hoping for her and Rey to get along, so that there wouldn’t be some stupid love triangle with jealousy (thanks RJ for hinting at that DUH) the actual anti Finnrose attitude developped only after the movie was out. However I do know some Finnrey shippers I don’t have much contact with see Rey as the sole center that should get the guy over anyone else, so I won’t doubt that the anon came across such people. Also we have to remember many antis aren’t actual Finnrey shippers, so the question is again “who are antis?”
Yeah, I think it’s important not to get defensive and be “see no evil, hear no evil” like I’ve seen reylows get. People in our immediate circle may have been excited about Rose and the possibility of Finnrose, but we know a lot of antis are toxic and racist as hell. I’ve seen at least one such anon calling Rose a downgrade sent to a reylow, and it made me want to throw up. People can have bad experiences with antis even if we haven’t personally done or seen those things. We don’t get to call people liars just to uphold our pure self-image (not to mention antis are anything but pure and should define no one’s self-image lmao).
Because obviously you are either a criminal or a servant. Those are the dichotomies.
This is 100% a common thing that happens. I’ve had people (usually white women) come up to me as a manager to “report employees” that are being “lazy” or “unhelpful” and 99 times out of 100 it is not an actual employee (we wear name tags for a reason) and nearly every time it is a black or latino customer.
I’ve gotten multiple complaints on service surveys that employees were speaking Spanish to each other on days when we had no spanish speaking employees.
