the one thing i struggle with in terms of kylo ren is people rationalizing women being into the character as it being because he’s “hot.” he has no jaw??? his profile is a disaster???? finn and poe are right there????????

Honestly, I remain baffled by people who come away from those movies thinking Adam is the hot one 😳

“Hurrr durrr people who have subjective personal tastes regarding their attraction to individual men &/or woman is confusing durrrrr!”

@rubberfacedgoon , ignorant dingus

I’ve been literally autistic all my life and even I understand that. For Christ’s sake.

Look at @thephantomporg84 getting so hilariously pressed at people pointing out that a white dude is not the pinnacle of male beauty. Sure people can appreciate him or find him hot or whatever, but clearly Finn and Poe were, in looks as well as character, set up to be the heartthrobs in the sequel trilogy and it’s so inchresting that they are so often ignored in favor of much less conventionally attractive white guys.

Look at @lj-writes insufferable preening about like they’re the damn arbiter of which film actor is attractive.

I think that John Boyega & Oscar Isaac are also attractive, but I’m sure you’ll ignore that remark because you’re an asshole.

If you don’t like how I blog you’re free to fuck off instead of crawling through my notes harassing my commenters. Like, hypocrite much? You whine about body shaming and then make comments on @sifrin‘s looks because they think Adam looks kinda plain & typical?

Btw if you think Adam is, like just geometrically, anywhere near as handsome as John & Oscar then you’re just deceiving yourself. Next time I get an asshole comment out of you, which I’m betting will be soon, you’re getting blocked.

I can’t add comments to @the-bi-writer‘s There Is No Redemption Here for whatever reason and asks are too short to contain my magnificent prose, so I’ll just put them here. This is for Chapter 6 (link):

Seeing how the description of Alia Ren in the last chapter scuttled my Keri Russell fancast I hurriedly replaced her with Naomi Ackie even though she’s probably too young to be a canon KoR. And then! This line:

“You have a weapon,” she hisses, responding to his thoughts.

reminded me of an amoral Maz, which in turn reminded me of Lupita Nyong’o, and that fancast upped the hotness factor of the battle SO MUCH that I’m tempted to change ships midstream 😂 So if this was not the image you had in your head while writing, I gift it to you in thanks for a great scene.

Anyway this duel was so neat!! I loved the decisive and deadly moves, the way the Force interacted with the combat movements, and even the ending with Lupita… er, Alia turning off her sabers midair. Her recruitment tactics are a bit sudden, but effective! Idk how much of a choice it really is, since Alia herself said it wasn’t optional, but I guess it’s more choice than Finn was ever offered before.

Continued for Chapter 7 of @the-bi-writer‘s There Is No Redemption Here, I’ll just go into stream of consciousness/liveblog from here. Spoilers, of course.

Comments are acting up again for @the-bi-writer’s No Redemption, Chapter 13. Spoilers and NSFW musings.

God, the Finnrey sex is hot! Also Alia asking Rey whether she got it out of her system takes on SO much more meaning in this version 😂 Alia probably knew exactly what had happened, too. I can see why this is the “full” version, even if the mention of clay and glass shards in sight of where they were having sex made me physically recoil. In a way it’s a metaphor for Finn and Rey’s relationship in this premise, that they have a real and beautiful thing in dangerous and tarnished surroundings.

Also Finn is a bicon yay! I mean I don’t entirely like the idea of him and Slip because Slip was an ass (not a dead ass yet, I guess?), but I love that Finn and Rey have both had relationships and sex and use these experiences as a reference point for their current one. Also kudos for not fetishizing Rey’s lack of experience with PiV sex–also for not painting her as an inexperienced virgin simply because she hasn’t taken dick in vag before which is such a limited, cissexist, and heteronormative conception of sex. I like that her not having had PiV before is just another fact they deal with as a couple and the focus is squarely on Rey and how she feels, not presented as a “gift” (or worse, something “taken” because gah no) or some giant deal where angels sing and light comes down from the heavens. It’s a refreshingly nonchalant and natural presentation of sexual experience and lack thereof.

Rey sitting on cock despite her lack of experience is in line with her impetuousness, especially in her current state of mind, like: “Force I need this hot man’s dick (and also really really need to not think in general) and he’s in me oh that’s so good and ohhhhh shit reality check I haven’t actually done this before have I, just imagined it like three hundred times since I first laid eyes on him. I guess that doesn’t count as experience after all, bummer. Am I going to disappoint him? Is he going to think I’m a total flop? No he’s reassuring me and helping me relax and OH GOD I LOVE HIM SO MUCH.” It’s endearing and funny in an otherwise sad, fraught situation.

Listen, I am part of left-leaning organizations and I’ll be the first to tell you even in those circles men can be (consciously or not) pretty misogynistic. Yet, men in left-leaning circles are generally those more receptive to re-evaluate their biases and try to change, especially considering virtually all (at least in my country) feminist spaces are left-leaning, if not outright leftist. In which universe a guy with right-wing ideals (henceforth more likely to keep the status quo) will

treat women better? It doesn’t… make much sense, when you
think about it. Right-wingers are those who oppose more rights for
women, not the other way round. Furthermore, Poe being labelled as a
terrorist and an extremist… a latino? a terrorist and an extremist? a
threat from the left? That’s so Cold War, people, at least change the
tune, they all sound like Kissinger. Oh, and I am still baffled.. how’s
Poe an anarchist if he tried to uphold the New Republic and only joined
the Resistance when he realised it was obvious they were not doing anything to
stop the threat the FO posed to the galaxy? I’m just… genuinely
puzzled here.

A lot of reylows, I would say most, don’t think Kyle is a right-winger or a fascist, and to be fair he might not have the same beliefs on social issues as right-wingers in our world do. As long as we’re bringing in real-world ideologies, however, like that reylow did, if I had to choose between a random right-wing guy and a random anarchist I’d take my chances  with the anarchist.

Also, regardless of whether Kylo Ren philosophically believes in restricting the rights and roles of women or not, in practice he has shown himself to be violent, entitled, and manipulative with Rey. That’s not a strong sign of a feminist, and if he is then he’d be one of the dickheads who misuse feminist rhetoric to abuse and gaslight women. I bet he would sound like Reylows doing it, too: “I interrogated you like I interrogated Dameron because I believe men and women are equal, Rey. Why are you mad about that? Are you a regressive sexist?”

And yeah, it’s surreal to see Poe called an anarchist when absolutely nothing about him suggests that he is on the far left of his world’s political spectrum or ours. He was a soldier with the Republic, as you pointed out, which is not an anarchist thing to do at all. It’s not even an extremely Populist position, to use the political terminology of New Republic. Resistances have historically comprised a broad array of political positions, from the far left to the far right, so being in one doesn’t pin down his political philosophy either.

But I guess we know the real reason he gets pinned as an extremist, a terrorist, and an anarchist and it has nothing to do with his actual politics. At least it’s somewhat less insulting than the ovesexed gigolo or the misogynistic hothead stereotypes? Trust reylows to be Kissinger-parroting Cold War throwbacks lmao.

diversetolkien.com/vp
!

Please spread this around, on all forms of social media.
Throughout the week I’ll be contacting youtubers and twitter folks off tumblr just

*If you’d like to make a fan video (your own story) than that’s fine too! It doesn’t have to align with canon.

Requirements

  • All actors must be people of color. Background crew does not have to consist of people of color, but as this is a project that aims to gain exposure for fans of color, try as hard as you can to get everyone behind the camera people of color.
  • All ages can participate.
-however, if you are below 18 years old you must send parental consent to diversetolkien@gmail.com.

  • A name, age, and a bit about yourself. It doesn’t have to be too personal. Include the names and age, of everyone participating as well, and their parts in the project (direct, edit, etc.).
  • Give me a small description of the scene, trigger warnings if necessary, and a title.
  • When you send me the link or the file, save it as the fandom it belongs in (etc: Lotr, Silmarillion, The Hobbit) so that it will make it easier for me to sort them.
  • You have till February 14th , 2019, to send me your video.

  • send all videos (links/files, etc) to diversetolkien@gmail.com (feel free to send questions there as well, but I’m also on tumblr and I’ll respond faster there).

Share this post! Also follow this blog for more updates and flyers! Everything will be tagged under #tkvideoproject. Even if you’re not a person of color, sharing this around would be awesome!

At the end, I’ll compile the video into a youtube play list and organize them accordingly! The link will be shared on this blog!
