The Last Jedi was a poorly written and terrible sequel that destroyed the Star Wars universe, actively punished fans for having exceptions and theories, and treated every character not named Kylo Ren like shit, so what’s with all the “intellectual” types liking it? Sure some of it is backlash towards the backlash and “it’s good because it’s subversive ! XD” but YouTuber Patrick (H) Willems is the latest to make a lengthy YouTube video praising it and I just don’t get it!

I find Hans Christian Andersen’s story The Emperor’s New Clothes to be highly enlightening in this matter.

Good grief a reyl0 is trying to argue that nobody in TLJ can be OOC because its “original fiction”. Like are they for real? That argument can only be applied to Rian’s own characters like Holdo and Rose (although apparently their characterizations are completely different in the EU books so?) but characters like Luke, Leia, Rey, Finn and Poe? Rian didn’t create them so yes they absolutely can be OOC in TLJ, as indeed they are.

Yeah Ruin’s characterization passed the Story Group and KK’s vetting, somehow, but that doesn’t mean the rest of us have to agree with it. Hell, creators themselves don’t always agree with these directions, see e.g. the disagreements over Han x Leia between Lawrence Kasdan and George Lucas. Kasdan was nay, btw.

Pablo Hidalgo mentioned back in January that in some (very early) versions of the story, “Skyler” (Finn) was “the son” and mentioned in another Tweet that “the son” was always going to turn to the dark side—originally Darth Talon was going to seduce him. So I guess people are extrapolating from that. Regardless, though, once Abrams got involved Skyler/Sam/Finn very quickly became a separate character from the son, just judging by the art book. It’s a whole lot of nothing.

Yeah, and it seems even in these early days the older version of the Jedi Killer was a separate character, Talon, who corrupted Skyler the son. Talon>Jedi Killer>Kylo Ren became the son, while Skyler>Sam>Finn was given another lineage. They were never meant to be the same character. I wonder if the corruption or attempts to corrupt by Kylo Ren were transferred to Kira>Rey, or if we still have that in store for Kylo and Finn?

I am also amused that an early name for Snoke was Uber 😂 Sounds like he could get people to places.

Troll move: Lucasfilm announces “Ben: A Star Wars Story”. The only poster they release is of a hooded man with his back turned. It’s night so you can’t see what color his robes are. You can’t see the ground at all or any identifiers as to what kind of planet he’s on. People think it’s about Obi-Wan or Kylo. Then it opens and it’s about a completely different guy who happens to be named Ben and isn’t even a Force user.

I support Ben the non-Force user.
