One theory I saw handed about right after tlj was the idea that reylo and finnrey were supposed to happen because Finn and Kylo at one point were supposed to be the same person. Finn and Rey were childhood sweethearts and Finn got seduced by the dark side and Rey was going to try to turn him back to the light in a sort of take off on the original Snow Queen fairy tale but the idea got scrapped and they decided to make Finn and Kylo two different people. Idk how I would have liked that though.

I… haven’t heard any indication of this? As far back as I know they were different people, Sam and Jedi Killer. Unless there is some credible source I’m assuming this is reylow fanfiction, since “reverse Anidala” is a fave line of theirs.

finnrey isn’t canon. it’s like everyone has forgotten what canon actually is. if/when they get together, they’ll be canon. hints and subtext don’t make it canon.

I mean I’m pretty sure everyone is aware what canon means? People say stuff like that all the time to show support for their ships I mean even fucking reylows say their ship is canon lmao. It’s true however that Finnrey has more solid canon basis than any other ship.

Lucasfilm will clarify literally anything except what this deal is with everyone’s ships and who’s supposed to be in love with who. Like please make a statement already saying Finn and Rey are in love with each other, Kylo Ren and Rey are not romantically attracted and tell us what the heck is up with Rose. Do we really need this kept a “mystery” for IX to solve?

I mean the actors sort of did–Rey said Reylow is big no, John said he prefers Finnrey. Honestly there’s nothing to clarify because it should be clear Finnrey is the only viable ship at this point built up over two movies, as John pointed out.

In the post-series finale novels of DS9, Julian and Ezri broke up and Julian at least tries to reestablish contact with the enhanced woman who was in that one episode. Do you think he won’t be able to date “regular” beings?

Oh God, his “relationship” with Sarina was all sorts of unhealthy, too. In fact he was being predatory toward a vulnerable patient. I thought Chrysalis was a great episode precisely because it showed that people who act in inappropriate and even abusive ways are not all leering moustache-writers, but can be sympathetic people acting out of loneliness and pain.

I mean, imagine if Julian had been brought before an ethics board for improperly pressuring a patient to date him. You’d have O’Brien, the best friend swearing he is an amazing friend and a great guy because he IS. You’d have colleagues and superiors to speak for how competent and selfless he is, patients–a whole planet!–talking about how he saved their lives, even his ex-girlfriend Leeta testifying that he was a perfect gentleman. It was a really important episode for that reason, because it showed an otherwise good person using his power to hurt someone out of sympathetic motivations.

I think it would be better, indeed legally safer, for Julian not to contact Sarina. And no, I don’t think he’s only able to date other enhanced people. He had a healthy relationship with Leeta, teddybear-stealing notwithstanding, and if you think he and Garak were not boyfriends I will deck you. Julian’s alienation and secrecy were definite barriers to a fulfilling relationship, but his enhancement by itself never was.

Shara and Kes should have been in TFA to hammer home that busy parents don’t make evil people, since the ST3 are foils to Kylo Ren. Terrible childhood? Kylo didn’t have it but Rey did and even if he did too Rey is still a foil. And OF COURSE Finn is a HUGE foil for Kylo Ren, most notably for being brainwashed by Snoke (indirectly in Finn’s case.) And if Reylo has any truth to it, Finn would be the perfect romantic foil to counter Kylo if a triangle were to form.

I just wish we got to see Shara and Kes in any capacity on screen. And yeah, the trio are all foils to Kylo Ren in different ways but Finn makes for the clearest contrast. He offers a direct contrast in how he treats Rey, too, so FinnReyLo could have actually made for an interesting love triangle if Rey and Ren had shown the slightest romantic interest in each other.

No disrespect to your latest meta but please tell me you aren’t now in the “rey random was always planned” camp. It’s bad enough having to put up with the reyl0s smugly going “we told you so” and think pieces STILL being written about how anyone who spent any time speculating about Rey’s parents was just a stupid “fan boy” making something out of nothing. I think could be onto something with the elitism and egalitarianism but I don’t buy that is why we still don’t know Rey or Finn’s surnames.

Nah, I was a Rey Solo theorist pre-TLJ so it would be like spitting on my own face if I insulted ReySky theorists for their theorizing lol. I think even if Rey turned out to be a Skywalker the conflict of elitism vs. egalitarianism still works because nothing could erase the harsh upbringing she endured. Barring a really cool reveal I’d rather she be a random though.
