so i just saw the anon you got about finn being sidelined, and i don’t think that was the issue in tlj. he got comparable screentime to all of the other leads and had supporting characters like all of the other leads. the issue was that the writing for him was garbage. john’s acknowledged that in his twitter and instagram likes and he’s been really enthusiastic about 9 so i think it’s a given that the finn stuff will be better. if it’ll please us is another issue, but at least john likes it.

Finn objectively had less screen time, though. I’ve seen one count where Finn has like half of Rey’s screen time. The reduction came entirely in TLJ, since they had about equal screen time in TFA. People have commented on there being so much less Finn, to the extent RJ explained his decisions to cut many of Finn’s scenes (link) and to condense his pivotal duel with Phasma (link).

To me the explanations don’t hold water, though. If too many of Finn’s scenes were transitional, then why not write more pivotal scenes for him? Why were Finn’s scenes always first on the cutting block as opposed to, oh here’s a revolutionary idea, cutting and condensing other scenes in favor of giving the male lead more time? Oh right, because he didn’t waaaant to. Because the fucking hack can’t be arsed to do his job and KK in her infinite wisdom let him slack off. She’s had no issue whatsoever with firing directors who weren’t up to par, but this shit somehow passed muster.

Is it possible that Kylo Ren manipulated Rey in hope of getting closer to Finn, the one he’s really after? I know Rey’s really powerful, but she has the common Force powers like mind tricks and telekinesis whereas Finn’s possible Force powers are more unique.

Yeah, if it’s true that Finn has unusual powers such as being immune to the Force (link), then Ren would have every reason to want to shore up his own slate of Force users and deprive Finn of allies. Turning Rey would have achieved both.

How do you think Shuri could combine magic and technology in cool ways if she were rich? Do you think wizarding culture in Wakanda would be less backwards than Wizarding Britain and they would not have a separate society from Wakandan muggles? Like there is separation in Britain and America with muggles and wizards maybe there is less so in Wakanda

I agree the magical and mundane worlds would be more integrated in Wakanda, I mean this is the society where bleeding-edge technology and rites invoking ancestral spirits exist literally side by side, after all.

As for Shuri being rich, I think she is canonically the wealthiest Marvel hero along with T’Challa? It would be funny if Shuri didn’t actually believe in magic but thinks it’s all explicable by science. She hasn’t found the right theory yet, but full discovery is just the next breakthrough away!

finn isn’t being removed from merch, he’s always gotten the shaft from the beginning. and it’s the same with poe (like, i remember someone mentioning that they both don’t have hot toys or some other hyperrealistic figurine when the entire rest of the cast does). it’s not poe merch eating into his territory or anything. and remember the backlash from the lack of rey stuff? it’s overall discrimination.

Since sexual assault is more correlated with the desire to abuse power than any actual attraction (which is why a lot of prison rapists aren’t normally attracted to men, for instance), I’m not sure if child molestation actually correlates with that particular attraction so much; you’d have to be a rapist as well. It also seems a bit unwise to me to freeze people out of communities if they haven’t done anything wrong; isolation is bad.

It’s true that there are pedophiles who do not want to harm any children and actively avoid children/seek help not to offend. I don’t want them to be isolated, I want them to be in a community of mutual support and accountability so they can live good lives and not hurt anyone.

That doesn’t mean pedophilia belongs in the LGBTQIA community, however. Pedophilia is not an attraction that should be celebrated or can ever be expressed in a healthy way, it is something to be managed. I’ve written about my stance on this before (link).

but the worst star wars prequel isn’t as bad as the last jedi

and if you can just be attack of the clones, that’s good enough

you can work your way up
